Man! This woman studies the songs she sings to perfection before she sings them like a nuclear physicist studies the atom. She doesn't just sing a song. She knows the depth of the meaning of each and every word she's singing. She wasn't just singing those lyrics, she made those lyrics come alive! Although I've listened to the original 1000 times, Dolly's version is the first time I actually understood what the lyrics truly meant. She plays that voice of hers like an instrument, and whatever it is that she does with that voice of hers... it's pure genius!

Dolly killed it. What a great performance. I think she misses the songs meaning though. I always took it to mean the lady mistakenly shines white lite and wants to show the way to heaven can be purchased with good deeds only. (as does dolly). When the true way to heaven is through meditation with god & listening very hard for gods will to come to us at last!

I genuinely dont like this version. I wont deny Dollys talent but this cover just irritates me. I dont know if its how weak her voice is or the folk vibe(doubt its the folk vibe). Another recent and absolutely badass cover is from First to Eleven/Halocene/Violet Orlandi/Laura Babic. Recommend you give it a listen.

When she recorded it, she sent it to Robert Plant and Jimmy Page who sent word back that they loved it. Kinda cool now that she is being inducted in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. @HotPeridot2 Жыл бұрын
I'm just hearing this cover of Stairway to Heaven by Dolly and she did nail it. I never would have thought it. I'll be 70 in a few days and I've heard numerous artists do covers for this song and very few have been able to nail it; but, Dolly did - she took it down a whole different path.

This is probably the boldest cover ever. Granted, it’s startling, but I don’t know what those who gave it a thumbs down were listening to because this is remarkable. Dolly is remarkable. The band is remarkable. And at this point we just all need to resolve that she’s free to sing whatever she takes a notion to. Somehow she took an iconic song, put her stamp on it, and both turned it on its ear and was totally respectful of it at the same time. Who else could pull that off? Nobody. She’s what all artists-female and male alike-strive to be but never will be.

Dolly Parton is actually an incredibly talented songwriter and multi instrumentalist. She was writing poignant songs about child abuse and suicide in the 60s when it was socially unacceptable for a a female country singer to do so. There's more to this icon than fun songs likes 9to5.

Thank you for bringing attention to her songwriting, unfortunately many do not know these facts s about her. She is a humanitarian world wide BUT in our country of USA her efforts on abuse, suicide, hunger, racial inequality are ENDLESS. Let’s not forget READING, education. She has forgotten NOONE. A TRUE STAR uses their platform, influence, generosity to NEVER forgotten the less fortunate! A killer rendition of such a huge classic. Dolly is such a talented person.

This is amazing. She made this song sound so southern.

Thumbs up. I never dreamed Dolly listened to rock. Nor doing classic rock country style. And it came out good! My respect for this great lady/preformer grew another notch higher.

Every comment I've read says it's good I don't think it's that good it's kind of embarrassing in a way

This is actually a really great cover. Yes, it's very different, but Dolly's talent really shines here.
@WytZox17 жыл бұрын
TRUE But Dolly does it as a great Led Zeppelin tribute and doesn't try to "countrify" it giving new life to a classic rock anthem. On her world tour I'm sure the British audience would love her cover version. ☺
@travisallen20937 жыл бұрын
one of those songs that should not be covered.... by anyone but Dolly
@WytZox16 жыл бұрын
* Right on Travis! Back in 1970s some group did a disco version of STH. I believe Atlantic Records or Led Zeppelin found out and had that disco version banned from radio, record sales and disco DJ rotation because I only heard it once. Such an atrocity indeed!

I m an all time Led Zeppelin fan but this version of Dolly and her Band is wonderful. Chapeau Dolly!
@cindyj55224 жыл бұрын
the arrangement is what really gives this a punch along with the musicianship and the back up singers. Dolly had good material to work with.

I love that they moved it up an octave for her. Dolly is one of the greatest things that is America.

I am in tears. I had no idea Dolly did a cover of Stairway to Heaven. When i visited Australia in 1985 i would always request Knockin on Heaven's Door & The Boxer. Her Islands in the Stream duet with Kenny Rogers helped me get through a terrible break up!
@Nostradumbass13 жыл бұрын
She made this song her own. I have never heard such a beautiful cover of this song.

A song that i thought no cover would ever impress me, not even Heart's cover.. I always thought this one song was untouchable and here it is.. I admit, I'm not a country music fan, not a Dolly fan and i half expected her to butcher this classic song.. but wow.. amazing. From the 4:49 minute mark just blows me away and I just want to keep listening to it, thank you Led Zeppelin for one of the greatest tunes of all time and thank you Dolly for you beautiful twist on this song..

Incredible she sings it beautifully. Dolly's got a lot more musical talent than she gets credit for. Because of her image I don't think she gets taken seriously enough.

Woooow, this version is AMAZING!!!!! This is the definition of what a brilliant cover is. Dolly imprints a unique vocal and musical style, so that it is refreshing and different to the original, but at the same time she respects and honors what makes this song legendary. It's the perfect tribute, and her kinda Arabic vocals in certain sections sound beautiful.

Excellent comment, that sums it nicely!

Aye I feel the same. What you said. Wow. Your description I feel and you described so well...saved me the time and I couldn't have said it better. The Arabic vocal style I dunno on or what is. I just love that I found this so good and different kind of cover with a good twang to it.

Dolly's interpretation clearly brings out that STH is Celtic, and USA country music has deep and wide Celtic roots.
@MrWhiskeycricket9 жыл бұрын
John Cornell The Celts were not just Irish, the were all over Europe, including what is now England and Scotland. Their influence is still seen in both cultures. Research before you speak.
@MrMot6119 жыл бұрын
Stairway to Heaven is not Celtic! It is a modern day English folk rock song. With the emphasis on rock.
@lylecosmopolite9 жыл бұрын
Folk rock has rich Celtic roots. Acoustic interpretations of STH are entirely possible.

One simple cannot draw a line in the sand and say, "this side is Celtic, the other side is English folk rock". The latter was significantly influenced by the former.

John Cornell No, because the boundary between the Celtic and non-Celtic in Atlantic Europe is not well defined.
