Depends on the bait, we catch pilchards/sardines/herring on sabiki rigs in Boca Inlet, Hillsboro Inlet and off the local piers. Goggle eye are targeted at night from 50-500 feet, each night is different. You have to find the schools. Juvenile bonito and blackfin can be trolled in 100-400 feet up and down the coast. Capt Mike

Hi! Great waters for trolling, was there in the 90´s with great results. What do you do with your catch? I see moore C&R these days is that anything you consider? Or is the fish stock big enought to save the catch? Also, why dont you use braid line? Any advantages with mono? Thanx!
@FloridaSportFishing
@FloridaSportFishing 9 жыл бұрын
Jonatan Hedberg When trolling and targeting pelagic species that jump like crazy, I like mono as it provides more stretch and a level of leeway. Is this particular venue, its not all about sensitivity and line diameter. On a different note, we release many fish and we also keep our fair share for the dinner table.Thank you for watching. - Capt Mike

Hi capt mike, great video. Question for you, was the dolphin fishing slowed noticeably in se Fl over past couple years? We’ve been going out for past 15 yrs and always had considerable lunch with the dolphin and if no luck , 100 to 300 ft depth off donation always produced a few black fin. But last couple years has been slooowww! Also noticed cleaning table at marina way too clean and little to no carcasses beneath it. What are you seeing?

How do you hook live ballyhoo for casting for mahi/dolphin
@craigerking9790
@craigerking9790 5 жыл бұрын
not very well, you can using a bridle in the back but ballyhoo die very easily, you could have a 1000 dollar livewell system and still have them die off quick, thats why they are typicall dead bait. Plus wish such a not hearty fish even if you get a live one, the stress of casting will kill it and make it not natural

Very sorry for the late response and thank you for watching. You are certainly headed to the right place if it is dolphin you are looking for. When heading offshore, look closely for birds, any sort of floating debris, well formed weedlines, color changes, etc. Focus your efforts arounds these areas which are likely to hold bait and the game fish you seek. Always be ready with a spinning rod/bait. When you hook a dolphin on the troll, there are often more around, so toss a live bait out quickly. Also, when you do hook up on the troll, dont be so fast to pull back the thottles. Keep forward momentum at the same speed for a ten count and you'll often turn one strike into two or three fish on. Thanks again and catch 'em up! - Capt Mike

Florida Sport Fishing That is the way it goes! Great job regardless! I fish out of Moorhead City, NC and I really enjoy watching your vids during these cooler months as we wait for our spring/summer Dolphin bite to return! It is great to watch you guys spot fish for Palegics! We are a bit spoiled as 99% of the time, we have a thick line of Sargasso right at the edge of the Stream that you can follow ALL DAY LONG. We hit that hard for gaffers early and then leave one in for schoolies on Spinning Rods if we want to spice it up and top of the dolphin coffin. Also this year, the Bluefin migration came back to this part of NC as well! They were gone for several years and were only within reach from points closer to Hatteras (which is a long and expensive run from Cape Lookout). It was really great to have that bite come back...just about the time we were thinking it was not going to happen ever again!

You're not going to outrun these fish, as long as conditions allow and your able to achieve a proper trolling presentation, don't be afraid to push it up to 8, 10, even 12 knots.
