Dan Marino still has the greatest arm I've ever seen. The release, the speed, the distance. He's got it all.

I was a kid in South Florida when the Dolphins won the Super Bowl in the early 70's. It was a great time.
@scorpionstingz49837 ай бұрын
Me too. Years later I met the Dolphins when I lived at Boystown in Kendall Florida. We played softball with the team and built a BMX track for a genuine circuit at the time. One day 4 kids were chosen to visit Tim Foleys home and I was one of them. We all had dinner together and swam in their pool with their kids. Tim also owned a fitness center called "Sportrooms" wich he freely shared with his beloved extended children.

Football in1966 wasn't the big deal it is today, companies weren't falling over themselves to be associated with NFL teams. The games didn't sell out and the owners generally tried to do everything on the cheap, including flying with no-name airlines.

Miami was a distant 2nd choice for an AFL team. The AFL had reached an agreement with Atlanta that just needed to be signed. When Pete Rozelle and the NFL found out, they rushed down to Atlanta, negotiated and completed the deal to secure Atlanta to their league. The AFL then turned to Miami.

Hey!! You forgot to mention that after the Dolphins beat the Bears on MNF in 1985, they failed to show up for the rematch in Super Bowl XX. Why? Because they choked in the rain at The Orange Bowl vs the NE Patriots in the AFC Championship 31-14.

I loved Don Shula and those early 70s Dolphin teams. Upon reflection and analysis, they accumulated 17 wins against a lot of unimpressive teams. They didn't beat a team that finished with a winning record during the regular season. Still an unbelievable accomplishment.
@ag3585 ай бұрын
You need to revisit that, during the undefeated season there were 5 teams with a winning record including playoffs and of course they beat those teams.

It's to bad...with Ricky Williams and the best D Miami ever fielded had Dave Wan'Stache drafted Drew Brees in 2001 instead of Jamal Fletcher in the 1st round the Phins would have won a couple Super Bowls

Someday Beli-Cheat will probably eclipse Shula's record of 347 wins, but he's no Shula. Shula did it in 33 years - Beli-Cheat's going on his 49th year. Most of Shula's wins were during 14 game seasons, not 16 game seasons. Once Shula became a head coach he was never busted back down to being a coordinator like Beli-Cheat was. Every team Shula coached he took to a superbowl. Shula was never caught cheating either. Beli-Cheat's no Shula. Not even close.

Wow, to think they were only making $50k a year. Even in today's money that is only $381,123.99. I say "only" because look at the salaries mediocre QB's are making today..., and it is guaranteed money. And shame on the NFL for not taking care of the players who played in the NFL when it actually allowed rough tackling - even allowing the QB to be hit. Can't blame them for jumping to another league that paid better. I absolutely loved the Dolphins back in those early days.
@deolall1075 ай бұрын
Its about revenue. Jersey sales/ticket sales/overall marketing. You can only pay what you bring in to be sustainable. Look at the WNBA, it’s non profitable, in theory without the NBA it would’ve been shut down years ago. Now days the NFL can pay these players all this money and that one name brings in that money for the franchise and the NFL plus some.

@@FrakintheboX if your not trying to gain every advantage then u can not win. You can know every play from film studying to audible tip offs. You still have to get 11 dudes to pull in the SAME direction. 60 man on roster for example...We only go as fast as our SLOWEST TEAMMATE. Winning 9 AFC championships and 6 S.B rings is not a fluke. If it was cheating then I have doubts about that much and long term success.
@lestersabados13067 ай бұрын
From Bledsoe to Brady with an undefeated reg season and Matt Cassel taking the helm and winning 11 games happened because the coaching staff taught discipline, basic skills and a belief in the system. Coach Belichick is 71 years old now and his strategy is 35 years old. All dynasties rise.....then FALL.
