I am a 5 foot 7 freshman and didn’t make the jv team. I personally think that is the best thing that could have happened because I’m touching a ball from 1-3 hours every single day and have already noticed improvement. My issue was I was a guard who had bad court vision and ball handling and only a shooting ability but I was with a mediocre form so I would t get much better at shooting. I’ve worked and I’m improving handling and changed my form and I’m hoping to keep working like this and improve to start on jv or make varsity next season. I have friends on Jv and varsity questioning why I didn’t make it and idk but I’ll work the same for the next 4 years on what I love

3:40 that comment about losing the ball--love it--u can have GREAT handles and ALWAYS challenge yourself w/ new moves/increasing the intensity of your current moves to improve your handles no matter the skill level. this kid has clearly done that, his handles are nuts. also, where is he playing/planning to play in college? what's the recruiting process looking like for him? seems like the smaller you are, the more points u need to score to make it big, i.e., if he was 6'3, it's an easy no-brainer d1 scholarship, but when ur 5'6. . .the recruits see a different story for whatever reason.

Gotta do it every day. I went from an average ball handler / shooting guard in HS to somebody who could break a full court press in college when I was training to try to walk onto the team at my university. I was in the gym a minimum of 1hr a day every day, not including pickup games, working on ball handling, shooting, footwork, etc. Lots of days I was in there 4 hours a day. It's all about muscle-memory, so you gotta get so comfortable with that ball that it becomes an extension of your hand. And the only way to do that is put in the work. But make it fun too! Make up your own drills, and break up the high-intensity stuff with low-impact stuff like free throws, form shooting, passing against a wall, or stationary dribbling. And focus on doing each move correctly at a slower speed, then ramp up the sped and intensity as you get a better feel. Put in the work and you'll see results.

It will be amazing to see what he can do against actual competition. While I like what I see in his play, sadly he won’t go far because of his height. Average height for college D1 is like 6’4 and NBA is 6’6. Coming from someone that is 5’6..I was a beast in high school but never made it to even college basketball because coaches passed me by because of my height. At most he can go D1 only based on the talent and potential this kid is showing, and still not even be the first scoring option for any team just because of height.

Aren't you gonna teach him to raise his release point? Feel like that would help him get alot more shots off. Undersized guys in the nba like Isaiah Thomas and CP3 have really high set points that helps them get their shot off. Even Steph had to work on raising his release because he used to release it from his chest(in highschool) and he had to adjust and sucked for a few months before he adjusted, and then baam, he went on another level after that. Also pretty amazing how he dominates without having elite athleticism. Most undersized guards who dominate are elite athletes.
