This is the coolest thing I have ever seen!!! I have been terrified of storms since I was trapped by one in and apartment at the age of 6. My mom was at work and the next thing I remember was the fireman digging me out! Back than kids stayed alone and had keys around their necks to go to school and back home , while your parents worked. Anyway, watching you is helping me confront my fears but gaining knowledge about storms! Thank you so very much !! At 55 I’m finally facing my fears!!

I remember watching the first season of your show on Discovery when I was still in school. Glad to know you're still doing so much incredible work to better understand these storms.

I watched the Premier on my phone and just had to watch it again on my laptop when I got home. The production of this video is just genius. The team was able to show and demonstrate the awesomeness of the Dominator 3 in a concise way. It's clear that everyone involved has produced a sophisticated and incredible machine built on learning from past endeavors. It was great to see the changes and refinements Dominator 3 has gone through since it first came online. I, like so many others, started watching you in the Discovery Channel series. I have every episode, bot all the DVDs and then in the subsequent years you had a channel which were chases and I bought them also - downloading the videos online. I've watched the Dominators as they were introduced, your various episodes and personnel (different drivers), your Oklahoma house and neighborhood (which I think you were actually glad to leave), and enjoyed Joel and Gizmo. I recall your working with Channel 4 a short time, then with Accuweather chasing various weather phenomena, tornadoes, mud slides and blizzards. So many changes through the years. It was a thrill for me to be able to learn about the Dominator 3, as it is today. Thank you for posting this video.

I wonder if dr josh wurman watches these videos from reed and remembers how he said live on storm chasers all those years ago that he didn't think reed was committed to the scientific aspect of storm chasing. Keep dominating baby!

Reed, take a step up from model rocket tech! A rail launch system will be sturdier than the rods. Build a socket for the rocket to protect the igniters and also make the contact. Go to a nylon chute and cords instead of the plastic. If you can go with the larger D, E, or F engines, you won't have to worry about cluster ignition problems, and get better range and safety for a launch.

Yo Reed, I have been a fan of you since I was a kid, you were the guy who I first thought of when I thought of Tornadoes. My favorite moment of you is in "Overtaken" when you try to deploy your probe, and instead, you lose your hat. That hat is probably gone, but I love how at the time you just looked at the hat for like half a second, then looked away. You were probably about a couple hundred yards away from that tornado. You are awesome.

I’ve always wanted to become a storm chases because of people like Reed. Ever since I was 6 years old tornadoes interested me. I’m only 15 now but, when I’m old enough I too hope to become a storm chaser like the one who inspired me Reed Timmer.

Doesn't the nose cone have a GPS sensor in it to find it after it falls? Heck you could put an Apple AirTag in it and find it with your phone.

Maybe a few Upgrades, When you spike in the ground, spike more poles out of the Large spikes in all directions, or add a Drill to get down more, then the drill has spikes come out when your done digging. And a Squared Cage on your front windshield to Stop Objects from getting threw.

Dominator 3 is like the DOW, except its a probe instead of a radar! Same with Dominator 1 and Dominator 2!

Great (and hilarious) intro to the Dom3. Maybe a bit of a weak point in the rocket launch process, alligator clamps on terminals an inch apart during the approach of a freaking tornado, but seeing how cleverly you've solved so many problems from the earlier Dominators, I've little doubt that better solutions will be forthcoming. Very exciting work! Best of luck to you all.

The D3 is a legend!

Very cool and well thought out design. One minor point. On your rocket launch, the blast plate is only there to prevent exhaust from the rocket engine from causing damage on launch. It has nothing to do with propelling the rocket for flight. As an example, consider sidewinder launched from the tips of fighter jet wings.

so if I understand this correctly, you guys came up with a miniature version of Twisters "Dorothy". Twister got me interested in Tornados, and here seeing Dorothy fly for real, so to speak, is absolutely amazing! and then there is that mean uparmored F-350, hot damn! keep up the great work Reed!

Purpose built, great tools Hurricane hunters are probably jealous of your work. I am a retired long haul driver, I have seen damage up close that turned my stomach. one time I saw a 75 foot tall silo ripped off its foundation, turned sideways and laid down with no damage. the giant oak tree was laying beside it. I fel5t the air pressure drop and hid from it in a truck stop. i was scared.
