As I continued exploring the city of Portsmouth, Dominica, I was joined by a special guest: the former mayor, Julian Brewster. He welcomed me to Portsmouth on behalf of the community and teased the amazing things I’d see in the market.
MARKET: We began our Saturday morning with a tour of the local market. We saw lots of produce vendors selling coconuts, plantains, breadfruit, and other fruits and vegetables. I tried some coconut water and tender coconut meat, and saw vendors butchering meat and fish!
UNIVERSAL TAILOR SHOP: At Universal Tailor Shop just off the market, I bought a local head scarf. They also sell Creole ties and other garments!
CLAVIA’S LOCAL CUISINE: At this food stand in the covered part of the market, I tried some crab callaloo and codfish accra, which were both outstanding. The crab callaloo came in a nice, rich gravy with dumplings, and the codfish accra was a delicious, crispy fish cake.

I really enjoyed this video. Very informative. The market was vibrant. That callalloo looked delicious and "mother" was so kind giving you the back story about why it's called callalloo and where the little fish in the accra comes from. That's a typical Dominican mother for you. Don't forget to stop by her next time in Dominica. And yes, you must come back. Btw did they tell you this? Dominican mothers love to feed, so you eating makes them happy. By your videos I say you did Dominica justice. Thank you again. Keep on going and we love you from the depths of our hearts.

This was good to see the Mayor take you on the Market tour....the provisions ... local produce...the tasty foods ..saw you really enjoyed eating..and it was really interesting seeing how cassava bread is made.......A nd I enjoyed seeing the traditional dance...very entertaining......such a lively and entertaining video. That cassava flour is called Farine in Trinidad and St. Vincent... Some people soak it in cacao tea and have it for breakfast!

You need to taste the farine made from cassava. You can eat it with in jelly coconut or rolled with Zaboca aka/Avocado.

Good morning David. First of all, thank you for changing the music at the end of the video. Love your visit to the market (wish they had taken you to the one in Trinidad), where everything is locally grown and fresh from the garden to the plate. The crab callalloo and the salt fish accra looked delicious. Reminded me of Trinidad where we also put pig tail and salt-kind (salted beef) in it as well. So good. Saw the dance but still wish you had shown more of it and/or probably join in too. Lol. So nice of the ex-mayor to take you around. Good thing he reminded you to buy your honey. Very enjoyable indeed. Got my email earlier and saw that soon you would be on your way to Belize. Lots to learn there. So have a safe flight 🛫✈️🛬 and may God continue to bless you always.🙏🛐🇹🇹🇨🇦

I have been watching KZfaq to see what's happening. Just watched UWI campus celebrations. David said he had more video of the dance and he may put it in the 'shorts'. Read his answer to me above. Aw guide with the former mayor must have been really nice. I love Markets!! Nothing like getting food from locals and things made .Best ever. would love to have some fresh coco seeds ummhumm and all those veggies n fruits . Honey local cant beat that love honey good for your immune system. I love bananas but my latex allergies wont let me eat them.. but in just banana bread think baking changes the chemistry some so that ok for me. Casava with coconut yummmy. then coconut water and flesh .. I love coconut anything lol. Love the fresh juices really healthy way to live :) I really want some salt fish everytime i see that want some. Community come together to bring wonderful foods.
