I'd have to agree. I actually drove past Roy DeMeo's old house in Massapequa, NY, earlier today. I was quite spooked as I passed by. He simply lived there. As far as I know, none of the heinous acts took place in the house. That never happened before, and I live in an area where a lot of prominent, infamous gangsters lived and hung out in. In fact, I renovated the former home of Pete Castellano (Paul's son). It felt a little strange because of the notorious association, but I didn't sense any evil. There's just something different about a man who used to apparently enjoy dismembering fellow human beings. To walk into the apartment behind Gemini Lounge, though, YIKES!!!

Montiglio's Vietnam experience saved his life. The Gemini Lounce crew had huge respect for his courage to go his own way against his Uncle Gaggi's will who was in fact their Boss under Castellano. Gemini was a very popular and always crowded bar and grill catering to the blue collar construction, delivery, and warehouse crowd. It was a place where we guys went to get away from womens' nagging and to talk about cars, hunting, fishing, knives, and other guy stuff. If you are a regular patron, you are respectful and not a belligerent drunk, and you paid no attention to the mob life, you were in no danger at the Gemini.

But how would he know. According to Sammy the Bull, this bloke would be paranoid af to go down to the Gemini lounge to pick up $$ for Nino. And avoided the place at all costs, getting in and out as quickly as possible, thinking they were going to kill him. Plus he disappeared to Cali for years, when they were at their peak. So realistically, how would he know. It also makes sense for Sammy to contract someone outside the mob as the hit he refers to, was on a cop.

Dominick Montiglio is by far the best story teller that I have ever heard. No one is even close. Sammy the Bull would probably be second. This man was the real deal. I can tell that this really bothered him and that he was actually a pretty good person. I can tell that he is telling the truth too. People closest to this thing say that The DeMeo Crew were responsible to 250 to 1000 very unfortunate people. They decided to stop counting after 250 because this situation was so insane. They made every other crew in the history of the life look like choir boys. Can not even imagine his life. No one can. His memories must have been torture. Rest in peace Dominick.

Roy wasn't so bad. His method of killing was not sadistic. The victims never even knew that they were dead nine times out of ten. Also, from what I've read, he had a genuinely kind side to him and was very loyal. Montiglio would never have dared call him Rooster without being Nino's nephew.

Back in the day... In the mid to late 1970s, I was advised, by ex-cons who were ex-car thieves then going straight, to avoid going into The Gemini Lounge, at all costs. These were people who did their time, started raising families, and changed their lives for the better, they were at that time working at a Key Food Warehouse in the Canarsie Terminal Market. I guess the word among these ex-car thieves... were they knew something really BAD...and they would not get involved with any more talk about the Gemini. Just to avoid the place...

Wrong. Organized crime kept street crime WAY down. No average hooligan dared to creep on women, snatch purses, or break into a car in a neighborhood that one of the Five Families controlled. No one dared to. If you got caught spray painting a building, a wiseguy would give you one warning, and that was the last warning you will ever get.
