"The Maple Leaf Forever" is a Canadian song written by Alexander Muir (1830--1906) in 1867, the year of Canada's Confederation. He wrote the work after serving with the Queen's Own Rifles of Toronto in the Battle of Ridgeway against the Fenians in 1866.

Haltaïr not really, it’s a reference to a “scandal” if you could even call it that, he had to make a formal apology for eating a piece of chocolate in the House of Commons.

Ô Canada was originally a French Canadian patriotic song, in French... Written in 1880 by two French Canadians. The English lyrics where written only in 1908 and it only became the federation anthem in 1939 de facto and officially in 1980....

The ''Ô Canada'' anthem was firstly composed and written for the French Canadians' St-John the Baptist Day (the National Holiday of French Canada) in 1880. It was translated in English in 1906. It served as an unofficial anthem for both Canadas (English and French) as a whole until 1980, when it was officialized. There is a bilingual version, which is the ''most'' used (officially) even if you can sing it in French or English entirely. It would have been nice to include the bilingual version (or the French one--as the original) here :D Thank you anyways for your great work!

Yes, the Patriation Act of 1982, it is that act passed to the British House of Commons, the only French and English legislation act that passed in 1982 where the Canadians will not answer to the British Parliament, but will retain the monarchy, albeit Her Majesty has a separate role and identity as the Queen of Canada.
