Can we just take a moment to appreciate her double turn? The form, control and finish on the toe is rarely seen anymore even by so called "artistic" gymnasts.

i wished she had use this routine at the 96 games she would have won gold

longbranch11207 Not really. Her routine in Atlanta has more difficulty. She would have had to add a double layout in this routine in order for it to be competitive for gold. The back-to-back tumbling (while entertaining) just doesn’t get enough bonus on its own. The emphasis in this era was either in front tumbling, or double saltos. That’s one of the reasons Podkopayeva was able to outscore Dawes in Atlanta.

@@captainbryce1 Dawes should have kept this pass and added the double layout. She was able to space herself better with the back to back pass and never would have gone out of bounds in the AA if she kept it.

I agree with @Bryce. The difficulty in this routine would not be enough to win gold in 96, which is why she upgraded her routine in 95/96. That said, had she performed a more solid compulsories in the 92 games, I believe Dawes would have made finals and placed on the podium, if not gold. Her optionals in 92 was not only a crowd pleaser, it had the difficulty to take gold. It was powerful and playfully artistic, which is rare in the sport with the recent COP. I still to this day, can't believe Milosovec got a 10.0 on floor with visible deductions. Ónodi was robbed.

@@deanmacabitas She could win bronze in floor finals in 92, or at best tie for silver. She never would win gold, she did not have the reputation yet for something like that.

Back then the judges could play favorite and it's part of the reason the scoring system was changed after the hot mess scores in Athens. So gymnastics and figure skating were highly riddled with controversy. That is why both sports changed the scoring system

The favorite was shannon and Kim before shannon. Dominique finally started getting shine at 94 nationals and most folks didn't like it . But despite that she never complained and she was many national individuals and still was one of the best tumblers in the game

@@TheTimo5494 she was always humble , and I always wondered why they was not scoring fairly , she was not allowed to make a minor mistake, which most gymnasts will get away with with .
