Possibly the greatest live performance of Don Carlo ever recorded. Every principal singer was PERFECT for their role. So much thrilling excitement in this performance and so glad to hear an audience that understands what a miracle they are witnessing and give all the artist sincere PRAISE. RIP Grace Bumbry & Monserrat Caballe. Two of the greatest DIVAS of the 20th century!

Best production of Don Carlos by far. Singers were all superb. Don Carlos-Rodrigo duet in the first act, "Ella giammai m'amo", "O don fatale", and "Tu che le vanità" have never been sung like this before or after. This is the before and the after of Don Carlos.

Gusts of wind blew on them at this outdoor stage during the whole performance and yet they sang wonderfully. For 3 hours! Yikes such artistry and strength, such professionals. Best singing. Monserrat's singing continually amazing, Grace, the tenor,, the bass, the choir, great work!

Great performance, Aragall is just in his role, tragic and with this beautiful voice, the duets with Bruson are as powerfull as should be. Also Estes' s voice is at his best. Caballe's pianos are impressive and Bumbry's temperament is very good for her role. I'm enjoying it very much.

Endowed with a sensational and ample spinto voice, her repertory was extremely diversified, from classical melodies, to Zarzuela, pop hits (scoring huge triumphs with pop artists including Freddie Mercury and Vangelis) and of course opera, in roles ranging from Alceste, Medea, Semiramide, Contessa in the Nozze di Figaro, Norma, Imogene, the Tudor Queens, Violetta, Leonora, Elisabetta (in Don Carlos: a most fabulous interpretation), Manon, Salomé (Hérodiade), Manon Lescaut, Mimi, Floria Tosca, Princess Turandot, Adriana Lecouvreur, Arabella, Salome and countless others, including rarely performed works, both in opera and on the concert platform! A God’s voice, her perfect breath control (only challenged by that of Leontyne Price) was awesome, her mastery of the pianissimi (frequently overused) and long-sustained high notes (glorious if somewhat metallic high-Cs and Ds ) were thrilling to the last and projected easily in the largest auditoriums. Her trills were sometimes lazy as was her vision of the prosodic line, which she knew how to accommodate to best fit with her own vocality! She was a marvelous, unique and generous Lady whom I was privileged to know and of whom I have fond memories. She leaves an undisputed and regal artistic legacy. One of the last operatic titans! Her radiant smile and indomitable sense of humour will be missed but her talent will last through her many recordings. She was an ambassador of peace and humility … Her voice will resonate high up there among singing Angels who will rejoice in welcoming her loving soul in a better world. RIP.

Pero no conocia ninguna version en video, y esta version es realmente impactante, recordandonos esa voz suprema de Caballe, poseedora de los mejores pianisimos de cualquier soprano del siglo 20 y lo que va del 21. Mamma mia come canta bene Bruson , mai sentito un canto così espressivo e commovente.

I wanted to get to know Don Carlo in advance of the LA Opera producing it this fall, and wow what a performance. Bumbry was fabulous throughout, and Caballe's "Toi qui sus le néant" in act 5 brought down the house. Bruson, new to me, was fabulous also brought a long ovation. The microphones picked up some wind noise but the strength of the performances came through just fine. Strong performances throughout.

Ottima produzione. Visto che qui si fanno classifiche dico anche la mia. Secondo me la migliore edizione è quella diretta da Giulini con Domingo, Caballé. Per quanto riguarda la Principessa d'Eboli ritengo che la migliore che ho mai ascoltato è stata senza dubbio Shirley Verrett. Credo anche che la migliore Elisabetta di Valois sia proprio la Caballé. Per il miglior Don Carlo la lotta è tra Aragall e Carreras (giovane). In questo ruolo era molto bravo anche Luis Lima. Filippo II è Ghiaurov tutta la vita, anche se qui Estes mi ha sorpreso favorevolmente.

Nadie comenta nada del increíble Inquisidor de Luigi Roni? Una maravilla!!!!

For me Guiseppe Verdi's best opera, especially because of the first part of act 3 (1:43:33 - 2:23:09).

One more time, why are there zero Met video performances for Caballe ? Aragall should have had a few, again zero. I mean what a Luisa Miller we could have had. All I know is Behrens Tosca and Martons Leonora were a shame.
