@@griz063 It baffles my mind! Trudeau did Blackface on three occasions. He apologized and everyone forgave him! Blackface was used as a means to keep Black people from acting and being paid as actors. Blackface has been wrong the moment it started in the 40's. Trudeau did Blackface as recent as 2000-2001. He earned a bachelors of arts degree in 1994. If any program is going to teach you about other groups of people, it's a bachelors of arts degree, which he earned in 1994, which is 6-7 years prior to Blackface. To say he didn't know it was racist is a blatant lie. Don Cherry said you people, which can't be directed to a specific group of people because you people is highly vague. I will preface what I will say now by telling you I am Canadian of Jamaican decent. Don Cherry was a big part of my childhood. From The Grapevine to coaches corner. I don’t play nor do I watch hockey anymore. But i fondly remember meeting Don Cherry at parkway mall in north York back in the 80’s. He asked me how I was doing, shook my hand and gave me a picture or something. I understand what he meant. He always raves about various ethnic players, Canadian or International. He was born in a different time and was in the service of our Country, and remembers fallen soldiers personally. How would you feel? Seeing less and less people wearing the symbol of remembrance for your fallen allies? Bottom line is this was a quick smear campaign of an 85 year old national treasure. On another note, think of all the off colour things you have heard seniors say in your time lol. If you don’t know any wait a while. Give him his job back!

Yesterday, I was listening to CJAD 800 in Montreal and the radio talk show host recalled an incident of a French Speaking Radio personality making an even worse and disparaging remark on two South Korean baseball players. This radio talk show host was working for the Montreal Expos in 2002, the year the Expos traded Cliff Floyd to the Boston Red Sox for Seung Song and Sun-Woo Kim. He was working for the Expos PR department and rushed into a French language radio show to announce the news. This French broadcaster whose name is unknown (the radio show host would not reveal it during the show) made a breaking news announcement on air that the Expos traded Cliff Floyd for 2 Egg Rolls! Here's the astonishing fact, this French radio host did not get fired and today is still working and makes public appearances. Yet, Don Cherry gets the axe for something less repugnant. The Hypocrisy in Canada never ceases to amaze me.

Immigrants whoever they are and of whatever race are now in Canada. Integration is a part of being an immigrant - he was schooling (educating) the public on the importance of being Canadian. Honestly you can't bring every culture,tradition and legal system from every country in the world. Your here now enjoy Canada and support our military that protects you and our charter of Rights that gives you freedom and be a responsible citizen. It's a simple concept and to be taken out of context is a form of social control of views held by a minority. The effect of firing Din Cherry sent a message to every journalist or media employee - shut up and parrot our narrative. Your opinion (right to speak) is muzzled. This is your rights as Canadians and immigrants uand is seriously nder attack. The government has divided us as us and them. We are all Canadians regardless of how and when we got here. Let's unite.
@shadbakht4 жыл бұрын
You said “you people who COME HERE” Obviously you were talking about newcomers and immigrants. Which is true btw. Fewer immigrants wear the poppy than 2nd or 3rd gen Canadians. But the IMPLICATION you made was wrong; they’re not ungrateful or don’t care about veterans. They’re just not educated on the connection between ‘wearing the poppy’ and ‘respecting and honouring veterans’. You could’ve simply inspired immigrants to make that connection between the two instead of assuming they’re ungrateful or apathetic. I didn’t want you fired, but all you had to do was clarify that.
@CaptAwesumNo1Zone4 жыл бұрын
Maybe he meant Americans, if it was that context, it'd be ok right? If its hate towards a white human it's ok right? Americans are immigrants to Canada too right? Even if that American might be a Chinese American, then its wrong again, right? See the slippery slope? No?
@suzKawasaki4 жыл бұрын
Well said BUT, as an immigrant also, I know the connection very well. I used to read about the battles in my spare time while in my late teens. But even for new immigrants, there is plenty of information made available to children, as well as the advertising on tv, news and posters around. I would say that there is enough buzz about Remembrance Day that an average person would have to try hard to NOT know what is going on. So, I myself understand why it would be considered hurtful and frustrating when newcomers don’t consider the disrespect showed by not wearing a poppy.
@jamielazenby17954 жыл бұрын
you have a point on education but so does Don. An immigrant that qon';'t fly the flag on Canada day is unlikely to wear a poppy on remembrance day and in this age some of the Vets have fought wars on the land of the immigrants so it reasons out that they too will not be anxious to honour their effort
@shadbakht4 жыл бұрын
@@suzKawasaki Ya but most immigrants don't know that "wearing a poppy for the first two weeks of Nov" means that. Of course we're taught it in schools, I mean the ones who are second language and new to the idea that _if you don't wear a poppy it means you don't care that much about veterans and their sacrifice_ I guarantee, you ask some immigrants that, they'll be surprised. Granted, I'm sure there is a segment of the population that honestly doesn't care about veterans (immigrant and non).

Perhaps these families just need to be gently educated or guided on a few things: no one stays quiet for the national anthem Oh Canada {some don't even stand}, no one wears poppies and they don't call Canada home- I see it and I hear it! "You people who come here to our country [...]" that litterally targets immigrants.

Smellzalot TheGreat we are all immigrants. Unless you are a native.

@@cmsotodiaz Technically the Natives immigrated from Russia. That's not the point though.

Smellzalot TheGreat thats if you believe the latest research. Im on the fence about those findings. Either way, they were here first before it was even named Canada. But agreed, thats not the point.

Son of an immigrant here and I have to no problem with what don said. This pc culture in todays age is making everyone soft. Hes probaly the most patriotic canadian in the media. Mistakes happen. You could just see how hurt he is. The worst thing about it is he was right about people not wearing poppies.

He meant to say “you people”. He said what he said and meant what he said. He would like for all people to wear a poppy.

To me, worse things have already been said in the media. Focusing on one word or one sentence makes it appear like a scandal.

War is a difficult topic, people react to it differently, as they are allowed to. Patriotism is also something that people experience differently, expressing it differently doesn't mean you aren't patriotic. Some people forget to wear a poppy, some who didn't grow up with it simply don't think about it, many forgo it for complex ethical reasons. The poppy is for soldiers and other victims of war, not for impressing or avoiding the judgement of other Canadians.
