Continued ... sorry (not that anyone is gonna read this) When we moved to Oregon in 1984 ... you could buy the "family pack" at Bi-Mart for about $7 a game to sit with splinters in your butt in the cheap seats above the west end zone. I was there when we beat Ty Detmer and BYU, ranked 2 in the country. I was there for Kenny Wheaton's pick. My life has moved on ... but the sound of Don's incredibly unuiqe voice, and the tradition of "it never rains at Autzen stadium" will go to me to my grave. We eventually bought season tickets. Section 26, row 28. Four seats. It was so fun to see the same people year over year over year. Even from my home in Montana so many years later, the sound of Mr. Essig's voice resonates, and makes me feel like I'm home. I'll never lose the feeling of walking from my apartment down the railroad tracks, across the Willamette and seeing Autzen appear. It never rains at Autzen Stadium. It's less a reality than a perfect metaphor. I thank Don for being an important part of my being a Duck for life. I usually travel home in May. It's the only month I don't want to be in Montana. And every year, I do two things ... Walk from Villard Street (it's Starbucks now, but once was Wendy's) from my first apartment at UO ... to Autzen. It's been transformed by Nike, but it's still an amazing venue. Went to a game at LSU last year. 102 thousand people, or whatever. I wanted to see an SEC game. It ain't Autzen. A friend from Tennessee came to Eugene when Mariota was the man, and we played T in a preseason game. His first impression of Autzen was "this looks like a high school field" Until he heard it ...
