people probably already knew this but this was tupac's favorite song and and was played to him in the hospital just before he died. he even made a poem about vincent van gogh called ''starry night''

Don was reading Dear Theo when he wrote this. It's a collection of letters written by Vincent to his brother Theo. Theo died 6 months after Vincent's suicide. It was Theo' s wife that promoted Vincent's art to the world. And for that we are all blessed. View a Van Gogh in person and that will say it all.

I'm sorry that you didn't react to the version that matched up the paintings that are referenced in each line of this song. McLean captured Van Gogh's work perfectly in this song. This song always makes me cry. Vincent was such a tormented soul, yet he left us a gorgeous body of work. I think it's fair to say he is the best-loved painter ever.

Van Gogh had a sad life. His passion was to paint, but he didn't sell anything. He begged his brother for money for paints, and his brother was mad that he used such heavy brushstrokes. He loved a woman and cut his ear off to prove his love, but she didn't love him. He died sad and lonely and only became famous after his death. I saw one of his paintings (Purple Irises) at the Getty Museum years ago. It was the only painting behind glass, which I think is probably because of the thick paint texture. They had to protect it. If you get a chance to read about Van Gogh's life, I'm sure you'll find it very interesting. Anyway...I love this song and the beautiful descriptions of his work.

His paintings sell for millions of dollars today. "Starry Starry Night' was painted while he has locked up in an asylum.

Vincent van Gogh paintings sell today for millions of dollars if one for sale can be found. Most are in museums. But van Gogh lived in poverty. His paintings were unusual and not appreciated in his day. van Gogh painted common scenes, poor people eating potatoes, regular folks. Wealthy artists made their money painting rich folks for a fee. van Gogh saw unusual colors in every thing. He saw green and yellow in the sky. He saw purple in trees. It took a long time before people could see those colors too through van Gogh's eyes. But van Gogh did not live to see his paintings loved. He suffered mental illness and committed suicide. This song captures much of van Gogh's life and makes me cry every time.

TUPAC attended a School of the Arts so he was exposed to the works of Vincent Van Gogh among others. He understood the meaning behind this song.

This song is both beautiful and heartbreaking . He was a good painter, but people were extremely critical of his work. Eventually, his mental illness of depression finally won out

VINCENT cut off most of his own left ear. The conflict between his talent didn't help the demons inside his head. They days the just called it madness, but basically his perfection and talent affected him badly. Mental HEALTH Ironically only one painting sold when he was alive He also shared a flat with another famous artist who tried to help him He was very talented

There is a beautiful studio version of this with Van Gogh's paintings and lyric. I prefer that one much more check it out. The song has much more meaning that way.

Great reaction !!! I have a proposal for myself - will you make a film about a talented young singer Viki Gabor? She has an amazing voice !!! She can sing a lot of riffs and run and also whistle like her idol Ariana Grande :) I would be very interested in your movie about her. Viki has great potential to become a star all over the world. Van Gogh was touched to impress a woman and show his love for her, he cut off part of his ear and mailed it to her! So yes he had issues. The only person that believed in him was his beloved brother who supported him and kept all of his paintings. It is believed he was colorblind and could not distinguish between red & greens which is called "Deuteranomaly" to them color look faded and purple looks blue, stoplights the red, amber, green all look like pale white. if you go online and look what Van Gogh paintings look if your colorblind they look normal. It may be his color deficiency caused him to use the bold colors he is noted for. PS Please do The Friends Of Distinctions version of Grazing In The Grass... Who told you that? Crying isn't weakness. It's a normal human expression of emotion. It's healthy to cry once in a while. Ignorance is the biggest weakness of humankind, not tears. JMO

@@janetkmetz9644 Men should only cry when their father and hounds die. I am crying almost non stop lately. My hound Bert is declining before my eyes...and suffering. The vet is coming to my house this Friday to put him to sleep. I love him so much. His absence will be a hole in my heart. Woe is me woe is me My Bert

Yes, I have many holes in my heart from all the four-legged friends lost over my lifetime. I hope you will decide to help one of the many strays who need us so desperately, and are such open spirits when we show our affection.
