I try to teach my team this concept all the time "We are Problem Definers. I do not solve the problem I am asked to solve. Its almost never the real problem. If you can get to the real problem their problem may just go away"

You're a genius and I love you. I don't agree with specialization in design because my own brain doesn't like to specialize in any field. people are different and they think and process differently. I love experimenting and testing and trying different fields and I am multipotentialite just like many other design students. it contrasts the way we love to think and wander. Designers are explorers and being an expert in one field doesn't make sense to many of them. that made me so anxious because my university loved students with special experts. I loved what you said about designers working experts and getting to know a little bit of what they do and collaborate with them. that was a relief for me. now I have permission to jump everywhere. I might be wrong but I love that :))

Mostly love this but challenge the bit about not being able to copy in academia - Universities do allow you to copy from others - or at least they want you to reference others - and you do get better grades if you copy or reference the right other people - part of what you need to do in academia is to demonstrate that you understand which knowledge is credible

Not everyone can be Steve Jobs, Zuckerberg, or Gates. Everybody needs a specific level of education in order to know how things work and to be able to create a product or a service that can be recognisable as useful. He’s trying to put himself above the knowledge and people who produce and distribute it to the others. Ok, he is a guru, but not the only one.

Well ... very realistically, no one can be Jobs or Gates other than Jobs and Gates but everybody can understand how things work and design something useful to a specific purpose. Giving ourself to mankind, finding there the determination and discipline to never give up, is all it takes.

I don't get it... he's from education, he knows all those deans etc. and yet he's complaining about what they are educating at design studies. CHANGE IT THEN!!!!

He says that deans understand it but the professors don't which makes it difficult to collab.
