I was a part of this like $2500-$3800 month build and oh boy... the amount of piss bottles and the piss in the mud for walls would probably fill a massive pool! I know a few sheetrock screws went through a few bottles while they were hanging it because you could smell it when it was time for the final walk throughs... Paid for the location not the build

Unless youre regularly dealing with earthquakes and hurricanes, a few nails and some 2x4s put together by a competent crew, and that house still gonna be there a century later. If you are regularly dealing with earthquakes and hurricanes, a little extra bracing and some hurricane brackets and unless that hurricane chucks a car into your house or somethin, its not goin anywhere. Now, if your builders are idiots, that house is gonna need alot of work. But thats why on a load bearing wall you put a 2x4 every 12 inches measuring from center to center on each board. Non load bearing walls are built on 16 inch centers. Theyre plenty strong and theres a whole lot of steel holding them boards together

My family is having a house built in South FL. This weekend we went to see the progress....In one of the bedrooms we noticed it only had 1 vent in the ceiling where there should have been 2 ( 1 is an air out flow and the other is an air intake for the central air) when they put up the ceiling they covered the outflow vent! We took hundreds of pictures through out the building process....and in the pic for that room it clearly shows the 2 vents. Now the ceilings have all been textured, Ceiling lights are up....and the frigging vent is covered. It takes a special kind of special person to screw this up! We notified the builder and it will be corrected....We usually go up to see the house at least 1-2 times a week, but with Christmas this week and I was sick the week before we didnt have a chance to look the last 2 weeks. My advice is...If you are having a house built....Take pictures of everything, every time. Especially the electrical, Plumbing, A/C work....Everything going on behind the walls and ceiling....And go as often as possible. AND Bring Bug Spray every time and spray the framing, in the cinder blocks around...Clean out all the GARBAGE that is thrown in the walls (Chicken bones, food, cans and bottles of drinks...) Bring one of those grabby sticks to reach in the cinder blocks to reach the garbage....and put bug spray down there. Also before the cabinets are installed, spray that area also...under the cracks in the walls where the cabinets will go.

Bricks, sewer pipe, broken glass, a building foundation, coal, and metal tools are just a few of the things I dig up on a regular basis. Also, if you dig really deep, you get a whiff of manure. On one we did, the home owner we were building the house for came over on the week end and decided to 'clean up'. He piled up and burned all the pre-cut blocking and headers. He burned every thing that was not a full length or sheet. He even burned up about 20 pre-cut studs measuring 92-5/8 because he thought they should be a full 8 feet , 96 inches. Yeah, the problem is that for most places in europe, stone and brick are used. In america, there's so many trees that it's just cheaper to do that then use the small supply of bricks we have. Like the same thing is in the nordic countries where they use mostly wood houses. Its also because of natural disasters. America experiences more of them, so it doesnt make sense to use expensive materials if you have a cheaper, more available option. Like, tornado alley has no reason to build brick houses. Mostly it's only seen in older buildings, things from like before the 1940s, and even then it's rarely in proper houses, moreso just commercial buildings or industry.

@@ronstrong9560 They come in pre-made panels (often Xlam), with a lot of thermal insulation; outer walls tickness is around 30 to even 40 cm. The wood is treated to avoid aggression by molds and insects. More often than not, the exterior gets covered in tiles or even bricks to make it more durable. And the floor isn't usually made of wooden panels; many opt to dig out space for a basement, made with concrete and on the roof of which insulation and tiles are then placed.

Same thing in Sweden. We build a lot of houses of wood. But framing style is somewhat different. Interior and exterior finishing is done considreably different than a US house. Also, many houses are factory built as nearly finished modules. Assembly and final finishing done at the building site.
