Recently watched a KZfaq video in which 3 Brits were able to get through all wheel locking devices in seconds, including the expensive wheel cover device. Another video showed the steering wheel is still operational, so the car can still be driven. Surprisingly enough, the cheapest deterrent was a small switch which can be mounted and easily hidden and then acts as a kill switch.

The video is “Trying to steal a car with Anti Theft Products” by Overdrive. I’ll try to find the other video where a guy has the wheel cover device installed and shows how the wheels of his car still move, which I assume means it’s drivable.

@@susanweider5907 @theurbanprepper Good video that, but the disk device they use is a cheap knockoff. It looks like the actual Disklok is designed to solve for the drill method they used. This video has a couple Brits (hilariously!) try to get past an actual Disklok... which they do, after a LOT of trouble and noise. They decide it's the best deterrent (which is the most you can hope for) , although only one of them feels it's the best bang for the buck kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aq5ggqpqnpbGl40.html I'm getting one!

It may not be a solution for newer cars (I don't know if something like that would affect electronics), but what my dad used to do was to create a bypass for the ignition with a 3.5mm audio socket on that bypass. The socket would be mounted somewhere under the dash. Doesn't have to be super hidden. From a distance, it just looks like a screw or something. Then he would have an audio jack with both channels soldered together so once the jack was inserted into the socket, it completed the circuit. I know for a fact that it stopped at least one attempt to steal his car. Thieves can learn how to defeat commercially available solutions. They won't know how to defeat something that was completely custom made.

My dad used to have several similar methods on the old vehicles. However, in the mid-80s and up, there were more and more electronic sensors installed in cars. This made it harder to disable and reenable without start-up issues.

The only problem with the Apple Air tag is that it allows users to turn it off from unwanted tracker. Meaning if the thief has an iPhone the thief will get a notification he is being tracked and receive the option to turn the air tag off. I guess what you can do is also include a Samsung tag as a redundant tag in the same compartment along with the airtag.

You can always take that phone and put it behind the interior plastics, and hardwire the charger to the car. Then you wouldn't have to worry about a thief finding it, if for whatever reason they steal your honda pilot. That would also remove the need for the battery pack, since the charger would be powered 24/7.

Don't over think a faraday cage. Most metals will do since skin effect is measured in micrometers. An old cookie tin from christmas, the beloved altoids tin work great. Check school supply area for the mesh baskets for lockers, if they are metal then 5 out of six sides are protected. So if they are right above (say in the bedroom above the front door) then maybe then can get the keyfob.

Right! Cliff showed a Faraday bag in which he put 3 phones. They were fine once inside the secured bag but rang per usual once outside.. on October 4th. We did old school: turned phones off, double wrapped them in aluminum foil and put them and a small iPad in a galvanized steel bucket with tight fitting lid. Problem solved. Never received the EAS signal o4 warning. Of course we kept one phone activated outside the bin.

Great information and methods to prevent vehicle theft!! If I can add a simple advice which seems like common knowledge but always double check to see if your vehicle is locked. I work security at a hospital and the most common way thefts around where I work happen is criminals checking the door handle to see if someone forgot to lock there car. A lot (not all) criminals are lazy and they try and go with the path of least resistance.

Here's one: Only buy cars that have physical keys, the wireless ones can easily have their signal boosted from your keychain in your house enough for a thief to just open the driver's door and drive off with your car. It happened to Ross Patterson (Of Drinkinbros podcast) to his Ford Raptor that was subsequently used to ferry illegal immigrants around then it was dumped in a river. Also only buy cars with manual transmissions, every day less and less car thieves know how to drive stick. I'll bet you hard cash that 99.99% of the Kias and Hyundais stolen by the "Kia Boys" didn't have manual transmissions.

It gets built in to cars system all wired and then you would use an app called mobile drone to locate your car (also very helpful to navigate back to it! We got lost a few times and either the car was lost on the parking lot or we were hiking and needed to get back to it) so GPS feature is good. Though it's a paid service. So hey tell Oregon thief yo freaking get a job already and work hard to earn money like we all do!!!

What you want is a remote operated "ejection seat" for drivers side - even better a 007 detonation switch! One can but dream

My car has built in self-destruct. It burns oil, so if a thief doesn't top it off, eventually, the engine will seize.

Yay back with the videos and the pdfs!! I was so curious to see this because I knew you were going to talk about the wheel club thing and I remember when everybody had a red one, then I heard they weren’t that great and couldn’t remember why and that must’ve been it that people can cut right through them. We recently had trouble where one of our vehicles (didn’t happen at home) had to be repaired because somebody tried to take the catalytic converter. Not sure what to do about that other than be careful where you park I guess. One question - if they don’t like the GPS is it maybe worth putting stickers on the car that say equipped with tracking or something like that? Thanks for making these videos and pdfs again!!

How does installing hidden trackers prevent vehicle theft? It won’t deter anyone if it’s hidden.

You dont need an exterior gadget to hide an airtag. Shove it into a seam in your seat

How about electric scissor jacks like they have in RVs? Raise car up off ground, prevent drive wheels from touching the pavement!

Scotty Kilmer on KZfaq did a video about a security system that takes care of this. It’s a system from Australia.
