Princess Tutu is such a favorite of mine! Hope I was able to at least somewhat do it justice. It was fun doing all the research for the music and ballet costumes/dances. I learned a lot.
Here's the link to the first episode of Princess Tutu Zwei. You should check it out if you're a fan of the anime, I don't think you'll regret it!

Hope I was able to get at least one person interested in the show! If you have seen it before, what's your favorite part? And how do you feel about the ending? Also, be sure to check out this fanmade continuation, Princess Tutu Zwei, if you want more of the series. It's really good! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gsqhrLloyNS5gHk.html&ab_channel=Nocturnal-Impala

I was wondering about all these ballet references, as I'm digging deep into ballet history, especially for Swan Lake and was wondering about certain shippings (; (I really adore Duck and Fakir, and wish so much for a real happy ending) I'm from Germany and so I'm quite interested in the German influences (; As I'm busy with exams at the moment, I will try to come back to your video sometime later!

Hey, hey, I've been finally watching your video! It was very interesting, for example because I'm living near to Nördlingen (; And talking about the ballet references, I think Princess Tutu has an interesting understanding of Swan Lake, and perhaps my thoughts on it can give you more ideas on Princess Tutu. Firstly, I think that Fakir is representing Benno, Prince Siegfried's best friend. You mentioned Mytho's parallel with Rothbart, which is quite intriguing because there are ballet interpretations (Bolshoi ballet), in which Rothbart is literally Siegfried's "evil genius", his shadow. And also in the original tale The stolen veil, on which Swan Lake is based on) the hero is actually also faking the story of an enchanted prince/wizard haunting the Swan Lake to cover his actions (; As for the ending, there are a few alternate Swan Lake retellings, with Siegfried and Odile (Mytho and Krähe); and Odette actually ending up with another character, who seems to be comparable with Fakir (Odette leaves Siegfried in the original ending, but they are then drowning in the lake together). And Swan Lake's original ending is quite open, with only a lake of swans in the moon light, and only the music hinting..... (I#ve been already comparisons between Princess Tutu and Swan Lake (; )

@@felicity1877 That's really interesting, thanks for sharing! I knew there were multiple endings for Swan Lake but I thought it was just Odette and Siegfried dying versus surviving. It's cool how much Swan Lake and Princess Tutu parallel each other.

I love the ending. The entire time Duck was ashamed of being “just a duck” and was put down and ridiculed for it by the author. However she learns to accept her true self and does the final battle in the form of a duck. Unlike the fairytale the ugly duckling, Duck wasn’t actually a swan in the wrong nest however she was loved and accepted for who she was regardless. It’s a bit sad but it’s also a happy ending, being able to accept yourself in that way.

Not to comment on a one-year-old video, but Princess Tutu is my favorite anime. Loved the video and the passionate analysis of the soundtrack. I've always read the ending as hopeful, and imagined that the natural continuation of events is Fakir writing Duck able to become human again like before. I do like that her truest form remains that of a duck though. I had never imagined that some people disliked the finale!

Man it’s been a long time since I’ve seen PT and this review did it justice and then some. Most people like myself discovered it on Netflix (in the kid section surprisingly 🤣) and to this day it’s a nostalgic memory to both me and my sister (the scene with the woman revealing her husband to Mr. Cat will alway have a fond and hilarious place in my heart) I’ve just been obsessed with the ending theme lately as well and the lyrics to it are definitely a fitting theme throughout the series and surprisingly a bitter sweet send off to the finale. A Fun Fact/Spoiler that I’ll leave is that when the second cour was being aired, the VA for Lillie was shocked to see that Pike have her heart stolen and kept wondering “oh no will my character have her heart stolen as well” but as the series went on…yeah she came to realize that a certain blonde girl doesn’t have as pure of a heart as we thought she did 🤣

Love, love, LOVE Princess Tutu! Thank you for reviewing this show. It along with Revolutionary Girl Utena, Madoka Magica, and Sailor Moon are my favorite magical girl anime, though Princess Tutu is tied with Cowboy Bebop as my "favorite anime I discovered as an adult." Speaking of which, if you enjoyed Princess Tutu, you might enjoy Revolutionary Girl Utena as well. Nozomi Entertainment (the current copyright holder) was kind enough to upload all the episodes on KZfaq both subbed and dubbed if you wan tto check it out for a future review. :)

Thank you so much for this wonderful analysis. 🙂 I wholeheartedly agree with you that it had been a beautiful and emotional finale, and the fact that it had been bittersweet actually made it all the more memorable. I myself would have dearly loved to see Ahiru somehow regain her human form, but the fact that she would always have Fakir by her side is still beautiful and heartwarming, and her greatest wish had been fulfilled - Mytho regained his heart, his smile, his identity, and even found someone special (Rue) to share his life with. And that, I believe, is enough for Ahiru, whose own unique story with Fakir was just beginning.

I remember first watching it when I was like 11 or 12. I would stay up all night to watch it since I had to wait for my brother to get off my dad's computer. It was the only anime that made my anxiety go away. I still put it on in the background when I clean because it just calms me. My son even likes it!!

Man, I know this video and comment is 2 years old but somehow it only just crossed my path and I had to put my two cents in. But since you asked about favorite scenes, for me, it absolutely has to be the dance in the lake of despair. I've talked about it with someone for HOURS once, but the culmination of so much character building and conflict in that one bitter sweet but heartwrenching sequence just has to be my top moment of the series.

Lovely video!! I just rewatched the show and was curious to see if there was anything about it on KZfaq. I really enjoyed learning about the classical music and ballet references throughout the show, I know a little about ballet but not enough to recognize those things. THANK YOU for pointing out the Copellia reference with that box art of Duck, I love that art so much and always wondered if the pose was a reference T^T (I’m still trying to figure out if Rue and Duck’s pas de deux in the Anteaterina episode is inspired by anything… it’s one of my fav scenes in the show.) Ptutu’s ending is definitely bittersweet, but I’ve come to accept and love it. I wish Mytho had gotten better writing in S2 that would have made it feel like he actually loved Rue rather than just feeling obligated to her. That’s really my only gripe with the finale since his development in S1 was comparatively quite compelling imo. I agree that it’s implied that Duck could be a human girl again if she wanted to and I’m glad the show keeps it open-ended like that… It’s still important to me that even though Fakir is in love with Duck and thinks it’s unrequited, he still promises to stay with her as a duck. Even though it means they can’t be in a traditional relationship. Not to get too personal here but they feel pretty GreyAce coded, and as someone on the A-spectrum myself, it really warms my heart to see a not-explicitly-romantic relationship like that being treated with so much gravity and care. 🥺 Anyways, sorry to ramble, but you clearly put a lot of effort into this video so I will put effort into my comment as well. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!
