You first tip was the best “dry fit before gluing”.

When I first did MDF I was recommended to seal with hair spray first to stop the MDF soaking up the excess moisture & potentially warping the MDF. Glad to know it’s not needed.

This was very helpful, I am thinking of buying the Carnevale terrain from TTCombat and was hesitant as I have never worked on MDF before.

Your ‘basic’ building and painting makes my 6 month hard out look just pants! Can’t wait to see the next vid on using MDF. Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant. Never thought about using a sponge for stippling the paint on/giving texture at the same time - might give it a go on some fairly flat resin stuff too

Love grouting the mdf bricks really adds the realism. I have used spackle then wiped off which adds so much. Need to try the grout! Thanks for this!

I bought my first MDF a couple of weeks ago. I've build it and played 40k on it and tried some spray on the sprue to see how it reacts to different sprays (with and without primer etc) and honestly I don't know what I was afraid of or what people complain about... mdf terrain is GREAT to work and play with!

The weathering stage next is the best part! Really brings the MDF kits to life with streaky grime, lichen, moss, damage, chipped paint and all that jazz. Fun times! --GG--

Something that can help as MDF absorbes paint which translates to more coats for even coverage is to spray a thin coat of shellac on before your base coat it will prevent that from happening and your spray coat will be nice and even.

Youve done a GREAT job with this one man. That looks good.. not bad for a Northerner.

Great video. I have the same Charlie Foxtrot barn and I wish I had seen this video before I painted it. The use of a sponge is something I will try in future.

Needed the guidance for painting as I was very unsure about spray paint and thin MDF, thank you!. Few tips about this video : 1) Wear a mask or be in a ventilated area when using activator for CA glues, it's designed to absorb moisture and can irritate the lungs/airways. 2)PVA glue and wood glue are pretty much one in the same, bar some techno words or added chemicals from certain brands, they do the same job. 3)If you plan to glue doorways or other entrances, closed on a kit, do this on a flat surface beforehand, avoiding the awkwerd holding it there in midair until it goes off situation. 4)Keep doing these awesome vid's :D.

Nice job that barn looks great! I've found that the easy change that makes the most difference with MDF buildings is to improve the roof, either by adding bits or completely changing the roofing! I also zenithal shade with the primer and make wide use of contrast paints.

For some of the cheaper, less/no texture mdf kits, mainly older ones, you can do things like use textured wallpaper and the like to improve them heavily.

Always nice to get back to basics, I like the tile grout and how it picks out the pointing and makes it look more like mortar.

You use of grout in your board tutorials, as here, is great. Having it act as a gleu / binder and here almost taking the space of a pigment powder is ace. I've not built a board yet but your videos are preparing me well for when I finally do!

The stippling did an amazing job on bringing out the brickwork!

I've found GORILLA WOOD GLUE to be the best for MDF TERRAIN. The bond is seamless, strong, not brittle like super glue, and actually dries much quicker than conventional craft PVA and even other brands of wood glue. IMAO it's the best, never had a single regret for using it! I feel that the dry-time is more than acceptable when you use the glue neat!

There is some beautiful mdf kits that I really want to try, I saw the windmill one that so many folk did that I want to try. I'm a big fan of stippling with my messy brush on wood because it does amazing texture and effects. But I'll definitely try your sponge technique too.

This was really helpful. Picked up Zona Alfa and I don't have any real modern buildings (all sci-fi or post apocalyptic stuff) and I was thinking of picking up some MDF pieces since they're cheap and easy to find, but wasn't sure how to go about painting them. I've used the sponge/stipple technique on some Mantic terrain with brick work and it does turn out nice. Good to see it will work just as well on MDF.

I really like that effect with the sponge. I will be using that myself in future.

A note on priming MDF use enamel paint, MDF practically drinks other paints compered to enamel which can be sprayed on very light.

Great idea dabbling the sponge it will save me using big old paint brushes. I think I will also try the filler powder as you suggested. Thanks mate

in action, you can get 'cement look' paint. I use it all the time on my mdf buildings, and looks great, or just stipple on the vallejo texture paint. Looking forward to that next video to see how you do it

perfect for me i just started doing an afghan style village with mdf terrain.

I tend to glue a bit of card in behind the doors to reinforce them in case of clumsy players!
