When my husband and I take the boat out, we're a well oiled machine at the ramp. I get everything in the boat while he takes the tie-downs off and unhook the boat while we wait in queue to launch. Still in queue, I climb up in the boat and sit while my husband waits in the truck. He backs the boat down, I drop the motor and start it, and then I back the boat off and hover out away from the docks. We're on the ramp for no more than 60 seconds. I see him coming and I ease up to a dock (sometimes it's like threading a needle), he hops on, and I motor us on out of there. And that is literally me at the 3:18 mark in the watching this crap go down. My exact words were "I feel like I need a valium to deal with this place" 😂

I’m all for etiquette at the ramp but when a boat is broken down and being hip towed to a ramp we’re not tying it and the tow boat off to the side dock we’re getting the broken down boat to the shortest way out of the water. Everyone who has the running engines and are able to maneuver can have a shred of decency and give the poor family that broke down some slack and 10 minutes. That lady shrieking don’t block the ramp needs to chill out. People try harder to not get along than we do to just help each other out.

@@tigeraudio No - thank YOU! I remember a time when if you were in trouble on the water, other boaters would help instead of ducking their head like they don't see you and going about their day. My husband is an excellent captain. He taught me all about mating. We had ramp down to a science, I could catch front and rear cleats at once as he drove it off the trailer, stand mid and pull and suck the baby right in. By the time I had the boat ready in the water, he had the truck parked, back on the boat and away we would go. I also learned to drive and dock, so in a pinch I could. We also had all contingencies, tools, plans, sea tow and everything necessary. The idiots we dealt with down there at Ancolote was incredible, Boating like anything else requiring moving vehicle with engines should have a required license and school. Some situations I have seen are absolutely dangerous and scary. Having good etiquette is essential and normally we would try and help newbies, purely for the safety concerns. But when the attitudes fly, we have to walk away. There are many good boat people who will always help, IF you are kind and actually listen and ask for it. Think you are all that with a mouth, then good luck to you!

I have a 25.5' custom jet. Inboard with a Hamilton jet. When in reverse, the steering on one is completely opposite of a prop boat. Also realize there are typically no gears involved. If the engine is turning, the jet is pumping. The only control is the position of the bucket over the outlet.

We have a Yamaha twin engine 212ss and it takes practice.. It also really helps (and I think essential) to install the lateral jet thrusters and thrust vectors for great control. My husband has me driving the boat on several occasions so I can learn how to handle it in various situations, in strong currents, and docking, and using the throttles properly to make the boat do what I want. Get to know your boat and you shouldn't have problems.

Most boater don't practice when the ramps are quite, come in several times, try different ways, teach the crew to fit fenders and lines ready for use. Teach them how to cast a line so the loop goes over the shore cleat, one end made off to the boat the other held in hand and can be pulled tight at the right time. I ran a displacement 30ft twin engined wooden boat built in 1930 with a center rudder, most of the time I went single crewed. Lines were made off for both side and the forward lines as springs. Coming into moor I had enough way on to make the dock, aimed to reach it on the fore quarter, rudder amidships. Short blasts of throttle if needed to keep way on or take it off, a round fender would give enough bounce on the kiss to roll the bow round and a touch off reverse on the outside engine and the stern would kick in. All in neutral leave the wheelhouse and flick the lines on the dock cleat, make em off with just a couple of turns for easy release. PS: My boat is a WWII war vet having saved troops off Dunkirk 1940 and then joined the Navy on mine patrol of the River Thames Estuary. Then the difficult job of assisting the the fully manned sailing yachts to raft up on me, that strangely would clear the lock before me, yet follow me into the next one. Well that I'd let em sort their own cleats to raft to. In the mean time I'd swapped my nice clean fenders to the rough oil/tar covered winter ones for their nice yachts to rub on.

Right, trucks control the lines, not the boats. That happened to me last summer, I was backing my boat down the ramp, and some d- bag, walks his boat right up behind mine, while his dad was going to get the truck. I just sat there with my boat half way in the water, until he finally moved.

@@huntspoint3442 depending on how the boat is towed, a boat under tow with no power or way to steer has right of way. In this case maybe they could have stayed back but it is not easy to tow a boat in this way, and the boats maneuverability is limited. We also do not k ow if they were taking on water or not that also would mean it is a boat in distress giving it priority over other oats as well.

God I loved it. Visited them as often we we could until they both passed in 1986 when I was 20. So many memories sitting on that little screen porch in back, the outside shower, the HEAT (lord that heat), Grampa’s obsession with keeping the salt air from eating his ‘67 Chevelle alive. I miss them.

@@filly3594 • I totally understand. Fortunately, we live waaaay out in the country with a major river 2 miles from us; and easy ramp access with plenty of trailer parking. Mature country folk seem to just inherently know what to do and how to do it; however, we won’t go near there on weekends when the crazies come from the cities with their coolers full and their brains empty. Our local wildlife officers don’t put up with nonsense for a minute. Weekdays are nice out on the water; just have to always be aware of barge traffic. Those leading barges are absolutely silent moving through the water and there are quite a few bends in the river. Anyway, have a blessed day, dear one. P.S. My Momma and Pop live just up from this boat ramp and it always a crap shoot. For the life of me I don't understand why people go out on boats and have no clue how to operate them. Its astounding to me.

We all have to learn some time, even though you practice in a parking lot or whatever, you still have to take into consideration, wind direction & current strength, a little consideration, understanding, patience advice would help, if asked, needed, offered, I know I was once there myself, boating 40+ years ago & still learning but now more so on how to deal w/people, which way much harder !

I didn't think about it until you said that. I can hear Ross now. "And now, we've got these nice people blocking the ramp....let's just...let's just look the other way and watch the pretty birds over there. Yeah, right...there." Hahaha. :)

I live on the largest natural lake in California and we have a love-hate relationship with summer. When the tourists come up it's like a three-ring circus at the boat ramps which we have finally got pretty much under control, because in this small town, we don't go for that mess. Some people just don't need to own boats. They act like the water is going somewhere. Everyone wants to put their boats in at the same damn time. They need to chill out, the lakes is not going anywhere lol

You do well on narration. Good smooth calm voice. So, being in electronic ware fare in the navy, you can rotate a radar with out radiating a radar. Not saying your boat with Garmin wasn’t radiating. That’s why when you go aloft in port, surrounding boats are required not to rotate or radiate. Cause you never know. With the new fixed radar SPY, you sure don’t know. A powerful jamming radar like an/slq-32 v3 could cook you with 1 million watts. From a good distance. 8:13

I love the mentality of someone who yells the same thing over and over with no effect, and then yells the same thing over and over with no effect....I'll bet every husband within the sound of her voice, tuned her out after the first syllable.

Looks like the water's really calm. It's really horrible when it gets shoppy. And there is a drift like the tide Going Out or in. It can be quite a sport depending on the weather and of course, the people.😂🎉

It's been a long time since I have been to new Samara. I worked in venicia falls in 2008 and we stayed in that little old motel at the end of the strip. I wonder if that barbecue place is still there that fire would never go out.😂 But Flagler drive used to be one of my favorite places to hang out.
