Salty Crafty you should list 2 other pros: 1.) It is teaching a skill that is helpful for every human who wears clothes in order to repair a loose button, hem, or zipper. 2.) It has more gender neutral projects which increase the chances for males, who are not usually introduced to sewing (at least in US), an opportunity to learn a skill to improve their life their entire lifetime...

@DismemberedHat5 жыл бұрын
I have been sewing for 9 years and I'm an award winning competitive cosplayer. I taught myself hand sewing and then later how to use a sewing machine. My grandfather was a tailor in New York, so sewing is in the blood coursing through my veins. I wouldn't consider myself a sewing expert nor a professional, but I would say I'm experienced. With that being said, those instructions on how to tie a knot are not only confusing, they are unnecessary. I paused and read them multiple times and I still had no idea what the hell they are saying. Just tie a knot like a normal human being, don't make it difficult. Those instructions? *In da trash*

As a mum, I’m so happy to get a no-holds-barred review of kids kits. I’m getting the klutz sewing and clay kits for my 7yo (She already needle felts and sews felt plushes so the suggested age doesn’t quite apply) and NOT buying her a goddamn poopsie slime.
@craftywabbit95476 жыл бұрын
looks like it has plenty of felt included but that needle ! Bah humbug. Not surprised the eyes were demolished at first attempts - every time the needle went through it left a big hole in the felt!! But makers of kit prob had to provide a HUGE needle for safety reasons. Impressed by your first time making felt thingummys!!! Loving these salty reviews
@songdancer136 жыл бұрын
The needles in the sewing kits are garbage. I get they can't use smaller needles in 'for kids' kits, because 'safety'. But when my kids and I got the tiny animals one, and this one, I'll just say I was SUPER happy that I do a lot of hand sewing, and have GOOD needles on hand. Having good needles makes a HUGE difference in how well the projects turn out, since the ones that come in the kit just kill the felt, especially the tiny cheeks and eyes, where good, smaller, sharp needles don't.
@dcinrb85385 жыл бұрын
Embroidery needles have blunt ends and large eyes. Sewing needles are cheaper and can be bought at the corner 7 - 11 stores but require a threader because of the smaller eyes. If the larger needle holes in your felt bother you, then glue them on.

Super easy way to make a knot in thread that anyone can do, even if they have sausage fingers: After threading needle take the ends of the thread and wrap them around the tip of your index finger a few times forming a circle. Push the circle of thread off your index finger with your thumb applying presure so that the thread between your finger and thumb twists as it comes off. Keep the twisted circle of thread between your index finger and thumb then pull while holding it firmly so that it forms a knot in the end of the thread. With a little practice this can be done one handed in one smooth motion where you pull the circle as you are pushing it off your index finger with your thumb so that the circle becomes smaller as you are twisting it and it becomes a knot by the time you let it go. This can be done using both ends of the thread or just one. This was much more complicated to explain than do, basically you are just tangling the ends of the thread while pulling it tight into a knot.

I’m watching this after having this kit and LOVING it for a loooong time. I’ve made almost everything in the book and even got creative with all my little faces and such. It definitely requires a lot of patience and is time-consuming. But I actually enjoyed the process, having nothing else to do with my time anyway lol. Once you get past the initial learning curve, it becomes super easy. The worst part for me was the finishing knot. I could never get it to work right so I just hand tied my knots at the end lol.

LOL!!! 😂 That knot is a sewist's knot or whatever it's called. It's literally my mom's favorite knot for sewing.😅 She tried to show me so many times how to do it but I always did it the way you did because it seemed easier. I finally noticed a tutorial by Lauren fairweather here on KZfaq that explained it so well that It just clicked!!😂 Once you have it down its literally so fast and shaves like 6 seconds off your knotting time!😜 That's pretty useful when you're tying knots so often for hand sewing.👍 💓 Thanks for the review!!!
@sharpasasyringe6 жыл бұрын
Well yeah. Just one regular knot will be too small and the thred will just go right trough the fabric. The sewknot makes "several" knots at the same time and makes it bigger. So Jackie, just make several knots on the same spot and it will work out just fine! :3

I'm not great with dexterity regarding sewing needles so I cheat. I get a longer length of thread (double what I'll need) then pull it through the needle so it's equal. Then take both sides at the ends together, wrap around my finger and the rub them together. It can take a couple of goes, but it'll make a larger knot than a simple tied one PLUS you don't lose the thread out of the needle! Just make sure you start the thread on the underside/inside of the project and you're good to go. Best bit? If you have to leave you project for a bit, you can't lose the needle - it's attached! Don't listen to the "rules" about the back/inside having to be as neat as the front. Do whatever works to get the results you want. 😀

I do something similar to make a knot and it works with one thread or two. Just wrap the end of the thread around the tip of your fore finger several times then push the loops off with your thumb. Then while holding the twirled loops loosely between your thumb and forefinger pull the long thread so that the loops tighten into a knot. Easy.

Review the Klutz Clay charms kit
@daniellehulme-lowe59105 жыл бұрын
I just learned how to knot the thread like this. It took me two tries to get it, but it is so much easier to have a knot that will not slide out of the fabric.

I love these reviews, they're both amusing but also actually useful. By the way, the pizza and doughnut looked very cute with their little frowns.

I love sewing and have made this kit. It is time-consuming but I had a lot of fun. They have since released two more Sew Mini kits, animals and gardens. I've made those as well.

I got this kit for Christmas and I was salty because the needle was so blunt, it couldn’t go through the felt. I had to go to the store and buy myself a proper needle. The needle in the video looks very different from what I got in my package.
@songdancer136 жыл бұрын
The needles in the kits (I also have the sew tiny animals one, 2 copies) are garbage. I love the kits, and recommend them to people looking for something like this for their kids to do, or to do with their kids. But I also include that if they don't have good needles already, they'll want to buy some, and not even bother with the ones in the kits. Even the 'sharp' ones in the kits are too big to use with the felt, without it taking WAY more work than it needs to.
@tinystank6 жыл бұрын
songdancer13 I know right?!?! They couldn’t even penetrate the felt!

I am a plush maker and the needles they gave are way too big and the knot method is terrible!
@MsLinaTina6 жыл бұрын
I noticed how big the needles were too. I'm wondering if they thought the large needle size would be easier for a child to handle. A really fine needle to start with would probably be frustrating.
@pastelx76 жыл бұрын
Jan C. I agree the bigger needles are easier and they don’t break as easy. That’s my opinion
@turdbird06 жыл бұрын
Jan C. At 10 a decent size hand needle would be perfect, it's a long sturdy needle and a commonly used one for doing decorative stitches and all regular stitches. Plus it's not too thick so the knot wouldn't keep pulling through.

Ham and pineapple, but pick the pineapple off and give it to my brother bc I don’t like the texture 😂. The good flavor is still there 🤷🏼♀️

That looks like such a cute kit!!! For the knot just use a knotless loop ... it’s a cross stitching knot technique

I'd totally wanna buy this kit for the patterns. Though, i dunno if i'd wanna spend $25 for a book and pattern sheets
@nerdecrafter6 жыл бұрын
The patterns are super helpful though! It got a 7 3/4. So it's not a bad kit
@DandisDen6 жыл бұрын
Agreed its not a bad kit, and yes you also get the felt (Which I'm sure you could get at Dollarama for super cheap) but I dunno if its really worth $25... Maybe if I had a little extra funds laying around I might pick it up. I've always wanted to do felt food and sell them on Etsy.
@Nirrrina6 жыл бұрын
Just check online. I'm sure that there are free patterns online. Just print them on cardstock and they should work.

I can sew, and I got this kit for my birthday, and honestly one of the main pros I would list is that its changed how I tie a starting knot 🤣 its so much easier and faster to tie a quick knot using the method in this book, totally changed my sewing game! Lol! I wonder if having a bit more familiarity with it makes it simpler? But honestly I'd never used this method before and I loved it (and have taught it to other people since).
