I bought a Dell Inspiron 7000 13" 2-1 with the 11th Gen i5 processor. Been very impressed with it. And for $650 hard to go wrong.

Dude you can't tell anyone when to buy computer hardware. It changes so fast that it doesn't even matter anymore. Now is a perfect time to buy a laptop. Not everyone is going to keep endlessly waiting for the next processor to come out or the next video card to come out. This is 2020 - you should know this.

I’ve become a subscriber and avid fan of the channel as I’m looking to buy a creator laptop capable of 1080p/light 4K editing and thanks to you I’ve discovered the MSi range and some other manufacturers’ models that have stopped me simply buying an unsuitable laptop from my local pc superstore. I’m holding off in anticipation of new models between now and December. However, I’m imagining these 11th gen processors and the Xe graphics are more likely to be strong competition for 11”-14” Ultrabooks with integrated or MX series graphics rather than the 15” 6 core GTX series laptops I’m looking at. Do you agree? Should I still be looking for a 10th gen i7 H or U series powered machine in the larger form factor or do you think any of the 11th gen powered 14” laptops eg from MSi or Asus might now be viable (and not overheat & throttle)?

Hey Tom, next opportunity you have with a Xe graphics based computer, could you also test the game Cities Skylines? This is a favourite of mine but requires dedicated graphics. It barely runs on my intel graphics 4000, and it doesn't render the assets correctly. I'm curious if the new integrated graphics Xe are capable of rendering it. Thanks.

And now in 2022, same thing is being said as Intel's 12th gen comes out in force, and 12th gen Intel's are smashing what the 11th gen can do. The right time to buy a laptop would be never as each year pretty well they do the next generation. I would say buy one when you need one. The next best thing is coming out next year and always will. :)

I don't see this being even remotely close in an ultrabook to an amd 4750u for multi core work. the cpu in the lenovo nano for example pretty sure will only get ~15w and the performance will be like half of the 8 threaded lenovo 14s. the gpu is welcome but for development the AMD wins easily.

almost full performance on battery is a big deal to me and a factor why I at times dislike my Ryzen 2500U. Even if I run codes that isn't frequency dependent, sitting at 1.5GHz all the time is painful. Back with old AMD A6-3400M, it doesn't sit at lowest P-State and cycle depending on power plan but with Ryzen Mobile, it's up to SMU to decide.

By this logic, if 11th gen laptops hit store by December, anybody buying those would feel silly within a month after the AMD 5000 series is announced at CES! Better wait for that too then :D dont buy anything in 2020! Unless you really need a new laptop, the stuff on offer right now (if you find it in stock) is some of the best laptop tech we've ever seen!

Price is gonna be the decision factor for average people either to wait for 11th gen processor or to buy an affordable 10th gen laptop.

1. November my forst college semester starts and I want to my a compact laptop I can take to uni for notes and use as my main device at home for Video editing, light gaming etc. At the moment I could get my hands on the new matebook x pro with the i7, 16 GB of ram, 1tb and nvidias 250 graphics for about 1200€ or the new Dell xps 13 with also 1th, i7 and 16 GB of ram for about 1400€. Could you recommend me one over the other or have you any other tips for choosing one?

Could I be able to run autocad software with "i5 11th gen + iris xe graphics" without any issues or lagging ?
