The Omega Seamaster Professional / Diver 300 is one of the most BELOVED watches out there. But let's talk about the BEST ERA EVER of this watch: the 1990s and 2000s, looking at the Seamaster Professional 300 Ref. 2531.80.00
So my favourite reference of this watch REMAINS the 2254.50 (video coming SOON) but you know, this whole era of Seamaster is just the ONE. I just think these neo vintage models have this charm that can't be replicated. Aluminium bezel, beautiful patina in the lume, the slightly smaller helium escape valve. This just is the winner 10/10 for me. Even just the bracelet build quality. When you look at Rolex models from this era, you can definitely feel the difference in build quality - but not with these older Omegas.
Anyways. BIG FAN! What do you guys think to these older, first generation Seamaster Divers?! Let me KNOW!

This was my first grail watch. Bought it used in 2007, i was the third owner. I only had 2 watches at that time, a gshock & this. Wore this more than my gshock, use it for work climbing trees, going into forested area, into drains & ravines, rivers(I'm an environment officer), going holidays etc. The watch never stops moving. Only service it in 2022 not because it had problems but only to help a friend who has a watch repair shop. Was told by my friend that the movement was still in good condition after not servicing it for so long....even he was surprised. Now that I have a lot of swiss watches including the 2254.50 and a planet ocean XL I still wont be selling this, will wear it to the grave 💪. Thanks for the video Britt 👍

Britt, good thing about this generation of SMP is that they made a 36mm version (2551.80) with the same movement and more affordable prices. It will be good to see that model make it into your collection/reviews

Hey Britt, I am a Watchmaker in Boston, MA USA and I am so happy with your positive take on this classic Omega! Back in the day, this watch was so popular. It was an honest watch back then, and still is today. Although I don't really have much exposure to these anymore, I did a CS on one last week and it still is a great, honest, watch.

My condolences to you. I inherited the same watch from my late father almost 3 years ago. I sent for a service immediately as it wasn't keeping great time and has been my daily driver since. He got it as a birthday present and wore it daily too. It's my personal reminder of him, who I am and where I came from.

🎉 Thank you for creating content about models that are unique, informative, and interesting; and not driven by click rate and feeding the algorithm. It's refreshing and a brand differentiator for your channel!💪 As an Omega Acolyte, I of course really like these older Seamasters. They hark back to a familiar - yet very distinct period in the Seamaster range's design.

Treated myself to a modern Seamaster 300 for Christmas. Despite the reservations about size and thickness I the watch turned out to wear great on my average size wrist. I attribute this mostly to the excellent female end links only the modern version has.

Great video. Thanks Britt, we’ve been spoiled this week! I bought the 2531.80 several years ago for a low price and absolutely love it! It’s very elegant and the bracelet feels like silk. When I wear it I get the most questions (mostly men and Bond fans of course 😅). For a dive watch, this feels very much like a dress watch. The newer versions feel more bloated. And the 1120 is a workhorse caliber, very easy to service. 😎

I absolutely agree with you on every point. This is the pinnacle of the Seamaster 300, The dial. The color. The size. The bracelet, which I love! This watch exudes elegance and style. It is appropriate both as a sport watch and a dress watch and as a dress watch it excels. It looks perfect with a suit, sport jacket, or tux. ESPECIALLY with that gorgeous bracelet!!! I have wanted one of these for a long time. Great video about a great watch!

Great video, and thanks for sharing your thoughts. I pretty much agree, with a slight addition/tweak- I suggest checking out the transitional pieces that came out right before the no-wave ceramic bezel generation. You can spot these by still having the fine waves and aluminum bezels, but they have applied indices and Omega logo, the hands are longer and reach all the way to the minute track, and the biggest quick identifier is the ‘Seamaster’ text in red. I picked up one of these- the quartz version- as a “nice beater” to travel with where I can enjoy a nice watch but also not worry about it one bit… but I kinda love it and so it’s way nicer than a nice beater to me. It wears SO well! And in addition to quartz accuracy and ruggedness the quartz model has a jumping hour hand making it a great travel buddy. But I totally agree with everything you said, these older Seamasters wear so much better than the new bloated ones. The new bracelet is also so squared on the edges and uncomfortable in comparison, where this gen has more curves and gentle rounded taper at the outer edges. No micro adjustment but somehow it’s the only bracelet watch I’ve ever had that doesn’t seem to need it, summer or winter or anything. TLDR: great watch. 😂

I’m one of the weirdos whose favorite SMP is that generation that had no waves on the dial and, I believe, a ceramic bezel. I’ve never been a fan of wave dials. For me, it’s the SM300 I’d have every time. I had the first gen reissue, but sold it just because it didn’t sit right on my wrist. But with the redesigned bracelet and thinner profile, the SM300 Mk2 seems a winner. I’m planning on checking one out soon.

This was my first 'quality' watch and I finally bought one at an AD in Edinburgh in 2000 @ £1.050 on the way back from my best friend's wedding. Great memories and I cherished it for many years. I much prefer the stylish design language of this era compared to the current versions. While a grand on a watch was not an insignificant chunk of money at the time, it still felt far more affordable compared with Omega retail prices today. The 2531.80 was just under half the price of its arch rival the Rolex 16610 Sub Date at the time.

It’s not just the 2982-A2 being a slim movement, its the thin clasp, the slim bezel, all contribute to the beauty of the 2531.80. I bought a pristine example of this which my father “stole” from me. I then bought the current version and no longer have it. Nothing works. All chunk, cartoonish bezel with huge numbers. It’s a watch for boys, whereas the first is more mature and quietly confident. Nobody cares about co-axial technology, and EVERYONE cares about case thickness, it’s a complaint in every forum and watch review from the brand. Omega has not been reading the room for a long time.

Brilliant video Britt. I salute 🫡. And I agree with your view. It’s such a good all-rounder. I personally like the bracelet. I just wish it tapered a few mm at the clasp. On your design language section I was surprised you didn’t mention one of my personal favourite Seamasters… the “pre-Bond” range…. the Seamaster before the blue wavy dial model that Brosnan wore in Golden Eye (‘95). The 'Pre-Bond' was released in 1987 and phased out in 1995 being replaced by the range that you love so much… Have you had a Pre-Bond before..? It would probably be right up your strasse. Clear Omega Seamaster design DNA. Smaller. Thinner… oh, and no helium escape valve. My personal favourite is the two-tone with black dial 😍🥰

I'm a huge Omega fan as well. I bought my first in 1997, a Speedmaster Date chronograph 3511.80.00, still have it, of course. Waited till 2018 to get another. A Seamaster 300 212.30.41.20. Both models have blue dials. When I bought the Seamaster, I could have chosen the new ceramic wave dial model instead. Why not? I think the deep, rich blue of the dial on my model looks better. Also, it does have a ceramic bezel, unlike the aluminum bezel on the previous model. Functionally, it has the the co-axial chronometer movement [not master chronometer] but also no peanut butter cup helium escape valve! I guess it's a good thing we all love the watches we own!! Great video!!

Lucky enough to receive one as a college graduation gift as my parents knew I was a big Bond fan. The mid-size version that is. First world problems but I was kinda bummed that I didn’t get the full-size version as Bond’s. The tell tale sign, aside from the obvious size difference, was that they pushed out the date window further to the side due to the reduced “real estate area” on the dial. This deleted the small 3 o’clock dial marker/block that you see on the right hand side of date window on the regular full size models. But then again, I’m kinda happy that I didn’t get the exact Bond version because I heard Brosnan actually wore the quartz versions in the films instead of the mechanical automatics for some reason :)

I owned this very piece back in the day and in a bozo move sold it with a ton of other pieces around 2007 for 900 quid. Doh! It was one of the few pieces I regretted selling but couldn't bring myself to spend 2500 to buy (likely in worse condition) one back. Settled on the 2012 3rd gen glossy dial with the genius George Daniels coaxial movement instead. The latest iteration is just a bit too big and (when in blue) blingy for me. I also own a Rolex Sub and any number of other divers but this is my favorite dive piece. More character and if you find someone else wearing one...they are generally much more likely to know what they're wearing as opposed to a Sub wearer. Not always. But mostly!

I've got mine on right now, original owner. I still see this watch posted on forums and facebook groups, etc fairly regularly. Omega really hit on something timeless with this reference.

My wife and I have a pair of these for 20 years. Mine is the large and hers the medium. They are still our everyday generally goto watches, even we have more than 10 others in our collection.

100% agree!!! The 2531 just wears perfectly for me.. I need to sell my Omega 300M Green, just a bit too big, and too shiny..... I cant say enough how perfect the 2531 wears!!!!

I am considering this, and other older SM’s, in the 36mm size. (6.7in wrist) It is my favorite size, but I am not sure how well a diver might wear at that size. ...Great video, thanks!

There's another one!! Hi There. I like your videos and I absolutely love that you pick older watches for reviews. This watch is indeed great. No question. But tell me someting, why does nobody mention the 212.30.41.20.03.001????? It has basically the same porportions than the watch you were talked about but this one is much much more modern. And it's still 41mm and has the smaller helium valve. The dial color is different depending on the surrounding light. It's an absolute fanatstic piece and people never mentions it. Why???

I suppose, if I’m honest Britt, that I wouldn’t mind if my SMP300 were slimmer and had a sleeker profile, but I love my current model in white.

It's so much better than the modern iterations - just much better dimensions. I have had to change the bracelet though

I bought my 2006 Seamaster 300 2531.80, full set - last year for £2000 from eBay, with Authenticity verified. I had a collection of cheaper watches, sold most of them and decided to buy my first watch costing more then £1000 - well, I found this, still think it was a good deal. I still have a small watch collection, but I mostly rotate between this, a Tag Chronograph and just recently got myself a Bulova GMT. At the moment I have my 3 watch collection; OK, I have more watches, but they all sub £150 and the only reason I keep them is memories... price wise Bulova was the cheapest, then Tag and the Omega being the most expensive one. I won't count my fitness watch, as that is only used for my personal suffering to stay in shape. Funny thing is, if you are the type of person who needs compliments regarding the watch you are wearing, this Omega is a sleeper and nobody really pays attention to it, unless other Omega or watch collectors.

The best Omega that Pierce Brosnan posed for is not Seamaster, it's Dynamic, and that watch is the start of how I love watches until this day You will LOVE it way more than Seamaster

I got it with my 10 year bonus money. I bought the chronograph to collect and it’s real nice and I wanted to buy it because it cost more than when it came out and I got scared it would cost as much as a submariner I love bond films and 2000 dollars is better than 8000 even though it isn’t cheap. The videos posted on my birthday 🥳

Great vid it’s also my favourite timeframe for Rolex sports watches. The subs and explorers from this era are the best looking, very functional and by far the best value!!

I think because of THE JAMES BOND FRANCHISE, I like these SEAMSTERS a little MORE! even though I am not a BIG 007 FAN! IT just makes it sound 😎 COOL! The best thing on SEA MASTERS is the blue coloured wavy DIAL, it just gives me OCEAN VIBES😅. VINTAGE watches just have SOMETHING, they look decent and the domed glass fitting on them just Makes it ALL ... I only own one VINTAGE WATCH, which is of my GRANDFATHER'S... it's a Seiko bellmatic automatic and I think it's really COOL cause it has a NON DIGITAL ALARM which we can set and a great movement. NEVER GOT IT REPAIRED since the 1970's BUT STILL works EXCELLENT! THANKS for the amazing video WATCH GRINGA! THIS video is NOW inspiring me to BUY SOME VINTAGE WATCHES😅

Hi Britt, totally agree with you. My Omega Seamaster Pro 300 2552.20 (Midsize Polar Dial) is still my go-to watch. I believe this version is a lighter, slimmer, and more versatile version yet the same robustness of the SMP 300.
