I typically keep my clubs for a long time once they've passed the test of on-course play. Confidence in my clubs is enormously important to me. My driver and woods all have head covers from courses where my play with that particular club was excellent. As I reach for my Driver, Utility or 3-wood and pull the head cover, my memory goes back to the great shots I've made with that club. It's helped me envision great shots as I set up for the next.

Andy I started playing golf again just over 5 years ago, I had stopped for 17 years. I have gone through 7 drivers until I got a few months ago my Mizuno ST 230 Max, the head and shaft combination works amazing for me after a few tweaks with swing weight and hosel adjustments it’s long and straight and won’t be coming out of the bag for a long, long time! Irons I got fitted into Mizuno JPX 923 forged irons and again a few tweaks after a couple of months of use, swing weight’s and the shafts Spline Aligned, and again I can’t see them coming out of the bag for a long, long time.

Absolutely agree with you. I've been playing golf for nearly 35 years now. I was taught this by my old golf pro. I've owned 3 sets of irons - Mizuno MP14, Mizuno MP33, and Now Mizuno JPX Forged Pro during all of my golfing life. In the next couple of years I will probably buy my last set of golf irons. Over the years I have removed my 1 & 2 irons and added a 5 Wood and a few Hybrids. Maybe 6 or so Drivers but only 2 different 3 woods - 3 putters Bullseye, Wilson 8808 and now a Odyssey White Hot pro. Thank god I never succumbed to madness of chasing a rainbow by spending my hard earned $$$'s in a vain attempt to buy my game instead of working on it to get better. As P.T. Barnum accurately said "There's a sucker born every minute", I for one am glad I can look in the mirror and know that quote does not apply to me.

I started golf early 1987 initially with some odd second hand bits and pieces. Then over eighteen months or so built up a set of elite pro irons (they were the foremost golf of their time). I then got a second hand set of Ping eye 2 which I used till 2012 (my son still uses them), I got a new set of Ping S56 and still use them. Did try the Blueprint S which were very nice but didn’t couldn’t justify the expenditure to change. Instead have focused on woods and wedges which seem to have seen more technology changes.

This describes me perfectly. In 1997, I had three rounds shooting 80 (you know 287 shots worse then 79) I was so angry I purchased Brand new Top Flight Tour Irons and still have never broken 80. Then the wife and I had triplets. Can you guess what is still in my bag. Moral of the story if you want to play good golf (single digit handicap) and have any money to play the game don't have triplets. Unless you win the lottery (several times).

I'm currently taking game seriously this year and using yard sale clubs I've had in basement for 2 decades. Need to get a few lessons in and fix up the swing, but then feel I need new clubs. Was reading drivers typically last 6-8 yrs based on tech advancements, irons 10 years, and wedges 2-3 yrs. Other than that, don't think I'll fall victim to the rat race of min/maxing and changing my mind every time. Just hope when I get those new clubs, I'm in love or fall in love with them quickly.

With all the magical wedges coming out, I still use my $50.00 (new) set of Adams Tom Watson wedges, a 50,55,60. They still work perfectly. I think they must be at least 20 years old or more. Have no idea what the bounce or the grind is on them.

I’ve changed my clubs every year for last few years but now I’m finally finding consistency so I think I’ll stop changing for a while - re gapping each set takes time so agree once you’re hitting known distances & ball flights it’s much easier to deliver a consistent score 👍 but I do like shiny new clubs 😇😊😂

I’m so guilty of changing clubs. And I just got rid of my Stealth 2 Plus driver. I got fitted to a Callaway driver but have not committed to buy one. I’ll be sticking to hitting my fitted 5 wood. The biggest mistake I made of which you point out is not to get to rid of the clubs but get a lesson or practice. So now I have no driver😂! Thanks for posting another great video, and you say you’re an average golfer! I don’t think so! I think you are a great golfer. 👍🏽🏌️

I don't change clubs when things "go wrong." I am going to buy new clubs because it's been over 5 years and I'm older. I just ordered a Cleveland Zip Core XL 7 iron with appropriate shaft to test. If I like the 7 iron, I'll order 6, 8,9, and PW. This year I bought two ZIP Core Wedges, 52 & 56 and love them. Especially in our cool wet weather of the Pacific NW. Next will be driver, 5 wood (I have a 4) and test hybrids. I had to order the Cleveland iron because no shop in my area carries them. They all carry Srixon but only carry the Cleveland wedges.

Hands up, it's a fair cop. I admit to being a quick change merchant. Not with my irons, but with the top end... you know, the expensive bats! Frankly, I'm looking to get shut of my driver (I don't love it anymore) my strong 3W (sparingly used) and either 5W or hybrid as they both go the same distance! Have reverted to an old Titleist driver & a Wilson 1 iron at present and am reasonably content... though I am thinking of a utility iron... And so it goes on. I fear there is no real cure prior to penury.
