I have spent a lot of time on the hospital battling cancer and kidney failure. The first time I spent 24 days in the hospital my cat was almost unrecognizable. She had stopped eating and cleaning herself. She looked feral even though my father and son spent every day with her. She is dependent on my presence. I wish there was a hospital that allows Cleo to go with me.

That's why EVERY petowner should think over these cases before (!) something happens. It's always necessary to have somebodey who can care for your animal and your animal should know this person!! And you should write down in a testimory what will happen with your animal if you are dead, even if you are healthy.

Yes, spending time is just as important as feeding! I cat sat for my neighbor for one week and she made sure to ask if I'd be able to spend 30 minutes morning and night with him to play and snuggle. Ended up staying an hour each most days. This sweet boy was the biggest snuggler. We lived in a very quiet, safe neighborhood so he was indoor/outdoor, so he had means to entertain himself as well.

Our cat is afraid of people so when we went on vacation, we found a cat friendly hotel and took her with us. We leave the Do Not Disturb sign up 24/7 and have a playpen to keep her feeling protected when we do leave, and even cover it up a bit so she can see out the window. Also, she's on thyroid meds so I would be concerned she gets it at her appointed times. We've done this twice and 2nd time was even better as she knew what to expect. When we're there we let her out for lap time, pets, and to sleep with us.

Cats aren’t a monolith. It actively stresses my girl out to have a “stranger” in the house when I’m not there, even if she’s met them multiple times. I babysat a kitty who hid when the owners left. I didn’t see the kitty at all and I got worried and wouldn’t leave until I found him. He was fine in the closet. The next day I came back, he did come out to say hi. He was fine, he was mad but he was ok and snuggled and purred all over me for a little bit. Then he went on his way. When the owners got back they said he was so mad at them 😂. I think majority of cats do get use to their sitter. Especially when they realize that person is the ones caring for them for now. It took that orange cat less than 24 hrs to realize. I didn’t even bug him, I let him come out on his own. Best

My cat was diagnosed with kitty IBS this year. He’s on anti-nausea meds, a steroid every other day, and supplements for digestive support-all on the advice of his vet. Sometimes he doesn’t feel good and we have to coax him to eat, which means a pet sitter is not really an option. So he’s become a travel cat. Whenever we go home to visit family, he comes with us, and he seems to really love exploring my mom’s house and being with us. He doesn’t like the 2.5 hour car ride, but I can tell he has less anxiety being with us wherever we go than being home alone with a cat sitter. He just knows that as long as the three of us are together, he’s safe and will be well cared for. ❤

I hadn't been a cat owner in years and this little sweetheart was just barely old enough to be away from momma kitty. He is so used to certain little details just like you mentioned...the blinds being opened every morning...watching TV with me in the early evening. I work from home and only leave once a week to do some shopping but the few hours that I am away, the minute I walk through the door...his reaction is so heartwarming and just precious. I couldn't imagine leaving him home alone for more than that. Bless his heart...he'd literally be lost.

Thirty-eight years ago there was no such thing as a cat sitter. We were newly married, moved 1,200 miles from where I was born and raised (hubby is from a different country), and quickly discovered we had to go back to his home country. We were gone for 7 days. I had my two precious cats - illegal in the apt but.... - I opened 2 large bags of food, set put several litter boxes, set out water bowls, and left the kitchen tap running. They were so happy and excited to see me return. As I said, this was 38 years ago. Now I have a trusted sitter for my now 15 house cats. My old lady Beagle gets boarded and pampered. AND I make my own rawfed for my cats (cooked for dog). I make and freeze and I'm sure to make several extras.

I'm sorry but I don't think you should board your elderly cat. Usually with boarding they but it in a cage and it gets checked on a few times a days and that's it. Your car would be a lot happier at home in the environment she is accustomed to with the other cats and cat sitter to keep her company. Definitely let it get pampered/groomed because as cats get older they can't clean themselves well enough. In the end this is just my opinion based on my experience working in the boarding and grooming business, do what you think is best. I'm glad u take care of the kitties.

A good cat sitter is imperative if you are gone over night. Also, it is safer because the house is occupied for a time. Mail is picked up and lights turned on and off.

“A few times a day” is prohibitively expensive for most ordinary people. Once a day is over 30 dollars a pop. Three times a day might be up to 100 dollars a day. That said, I would never leave my cats even over a weekend without a sitter. What if some medical issue came up? And if I have a senior cat with health issues, I board them at the all-cat vet, where they get loving attention and careful scrutiny. They can tell if my cat is uncomfortable or not eating and do something about it. All my sitters have keys and my credit card on file, so if god forbid I’m stuck in a blizzard and can’t get home, someone is still taking care of them. So no, I don’t dump them with food and water. One cat is bound to scarf it all down at once and then barf it back up.

He doesn't mean only a professionell cat sitter. You can ask your neighbour, friends or family. The main point is: don't leave them alone for a long time. And make sure there is somebody who can care in emergency cases, if you get sick or if you are in Hospital. Leave your key with somebody you trust!

This depends on your cat too! After all, I know plenty of people that would just fill up food and water and leave their dogs for the weekend. This is because they’re ranch dogs! They’re free fed all the time and there’s no change to their schedule. If your cat is free fed anyways, putting out some extra food will be fine. They’ll miss you, but it’s okay. Please note I’m a pet sitter, and I’ve met plenty of different cats! Some need me to come by three times a day and they’re still sad, some couldn’t care less if I come by every three days! I’m obviously not a cat behaviorist though, and I have so much respect and love for this man. I sent my partner all these videos when he first got his cat. I’m sure it’s healthier for them to have sitters come and maintain their schedule.

I take my cat to my parents’ house every day when I can’t work from home. They live close enough, and I feel so much better leaving her with them, even though she clearly misses me during the day. Because I house sit so much, their house is secondary to my apartment, and so my cat has her set stuff there as well.

@mariag.8242

They show their social nature differently. You’ll notice they’re always in the same room as you but acting as if it’s just a coincidence. They definitely need snuggles and pets from their human and are better off with one or more other cats. However, they are also more independent than dogs in the sense of having their own opinions about when to have snuggles, which rules are worth obeying and which are obvious human foolishness, and who or what is acceptable in their home. This is not the same thing as not caring about their people or missing them terribly when they’re away. Cats grieve when someone they love disappears, and it’s really painful to see.

It just takes the right person. I had a friend who was a professional sitter, and had one cat she hadn't seen in the 5 days she'd been taking care of her. The food was being eaten, litter used etc. so she knew she was there, but never saw her. I went with her for one visit, since we were on our way to lunch, and less than a minute of me just sitting still, the kitty appeared, briefly sniffed me, and decided I was ok. I got rubbed on and purring ensued. My friend was SO annoyed lol. Cats choose their humans, so don't give up. There's the right person for your furkids too.

So very true - the cat I currently have came from a “friend” who left her cat 5-6 days a week! All alone day in, day out. She wondered why he was having an issue. Here’s the good part - her grand babies were getting scratched, she had him declawed! I suffered an injury so he gets to look at my face pretty much 24/7, unless I have a doctors appointment or go to the store. I LOVE HIM! 🐾♥️🐾

Bring the catsitter over to have a cup of coffee and learn the details of your cat’s routine. Having them sit still and be chill with their human helps them understand the person is trustworthy. Have the person sit down and give them a few treats and maybe a few pets if the cat is willing, or try to have them come at a mealtime to feed her. Food sources are more trusted than people who just grab them. One good catsitter understood about being available but not pushy. She just sat and read; each cat invited herself to sit in her lap 😊 A good sitter means when I come home my cats are calm but really happy to see me.

Jackson when I used to travel a lot for work, this is the exact brief I give my Cat Sitter. So important about all their routine. Sun, time outside in the Sun the blinds open during the day, closed at night, her favourite dog videos everything that forms part of their day. Lily still misses me and I miss her. But she feels protected and secure as her routine is the same. So Important.🐈🐈‍⬛💕🇦🇺🏡

Thank you for addressing this issue. After 22 yrs owning a pet sitting service, it was quickly learned that cats suffered from separation anxiety as much as dogs do. Maybe more. Everything you said is spot on. We actually had to educate people on this topic. Playtime was so important. Owners would come home and wonder why a cat would sit in a certain place and just about the same time. It was when our visits were. We even taught owners how to play with with their fur babies. I love the TV idea also. We would turn on Animal Planet especially when a certain guy would be on. Yep, that was you, Jackson. 😅. I could challenge you to "playtime with kitties" if you're brave enough. Cat owners listen to Jackson. Play with your kitties. Don't leave them for days. I use to hate if we heard"oh, I'll get my neighbor to come in and feed them. That is not quality time. Just saying. Thanks for letting me relive my passion for just a little bit.❤

I cat-sat for an elderly neighbor for a couple weeks after watching your channel. She was surprised that I came over more than once a day/every other day! Poor kitty was so lonely and stressed out by his mom being gone. Plus the curtains were drawn, so he was bored too. We spent a lot of time playing, looking for lost hairties (his favorite), and became good friends by the time my neighbor came back. (To the point he had to accompany me to the potty or I'd get a talking to lol) l miss the little guy.
