Haha that's so interesting to hear about the coffee culture. Whenever we move to our new home we didn't have internet and so I went to the coffee shop and use their Wi-Fi all week and just got a couple coffees a day and it was completely normal. Especially since each coffee was only about $6

A note: maybe it's not properly fair, but it'obvious (for us) that if you set down for coffee in CENTER of Rome, but as in all Italian historical centers, you will pay 15 to 25 euros. I think it happen all over around the world, if you take a coffee and set in front of the colosseum, or piazza navona, or if you do that in front of Wall Street (leaving aside the different concept of understanding the moment of taking coffee between different countries) it's quite normal that the charge its more espensive. But all over the rest of Rome every Bar (café, or coffee shop for foreigners) DON'T MAKE an extra payment for setting down drinking your coffee, cappuccino or piece of cake.

Yes, thank you! It makes sense now, but as an American for the first time in Rome that was so surprising! Hehe Sitting down for coffee in America is free and, as you said, the coffee culture is completely different, so it’s normal for Americans to sit down. So interesting ✨

Hi, can you tell us which are the cheap/affordable places to live in Rome? Especially low rent..
@AlyssaMaeFriend
@AlyssaMaeFriend 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Maisha, It's going to be cheaper the further from the city center you get. I found it hard to find a landlord for shorter term rentals, especially as a foreigner, so I would use airbnb's a lot. Try to look for neighborhoods that are connected by train but not right in the center, if you're wanting something more affordable.

Yes you should tip of course. Everyone will be thankful for it. No matter what other people do or what would your boyfriend says they do you should do what you think it should be done. And if you are person who likes to tip and think it's a good thing always tip. I went to Italy I don't even know how many times and I always dip and was always greeted with a smile and thank you.

I'm staying home most of the time, but it seems pretty relaxed, other than the 6pm restaurant closures and 10pm curfew. It's very quiet with no tourists.

Lots of good examples! Luckily Brits don't tip excessively (nothing compared to Americans or Canadians) so that was an easier adjustment to make. I've never tipped a hairdresser before and find it surprising when Americans tip every time they get their hair cut, nails done or any other beauty treatment. Are the base prices for these services lower because there is an expectation that a tip will be added?
@AlyssaMaeFriend
@AlyssaMaeFriend 4 жыл бұрын
Isobel Rigg no girl, the prices aren’t lower! I think it’s just a cultural thing because it makes no sense! My cut and color would be $150 (already pricey) and then add 20% = $180. Too much hahaha and yeah, we tip like that for any beauty service. When I did makeup I was just paid hourly wage so when people tipped me it was fast cash in my pocket. It’s different in every work place but our service prices certainly aren’t low. I don’t know why we do this... haha 😂
@isobelrigg5738
@isobelrigg5738 4 жыл бұрын
@@AlyssaMaeFriend Yeah it's very strange to me. It also means that tipping loses its significance; if people tip for every service, every time, regardless of how good/bad/average it was, the whole meaning of tipping to show appreciation and reward great service is lost.
