Great stuff Steve, l just love to see something explained by someone who knows what they are talking about. Awesome series. Can a reg guy who regularly does his own lashing at home, weekend warrior! actually catch when the sewer lid cap and retainer go out of spec? Or do they stay as machined when built? Thanks again. 😎

Steve, Have you done a video on how to do a leak down test? If not, can you come over and film using my car?

Steve, are you guys set up to grind valve stems for said style keeper designs? Getting ready to pull mu honda f20c head the keepers are known to fail, and the normal fix is to use titanium keepers and those seem to fail as well. Seems like this tech could be a solution?

Hey Steve, when do you think we will be seeing "freevalve" technology show up? It's the valve train technology used in the Konigsee cars. No more camshafts or valve springs. The old valve spring gets replaced with an electronic coil. Then the computer controls lift and duration.

Concerning stock or mild home built engines, how about info on: Multi groove valves / keepers that butt against each other < This is supposed to promote valve rotation for longer valve life in a stock motor. At what point does this become a liability in a more race oriented motor?
@stevemorrisracing2 жыл бұрын
great for stock, I would never use them in a high spring pressure

Interesting Steve. Please tell me....do you ever have the situation where the keepers leave the retainer at high rpm. And doesnt the valve lash leave space for the keeper to leave the top of the valve. We run the older chrysler 4 grove valves with taller 2 pc retainers that have a build in lash cap to one side of the keepers. There is a space between the valve tip and bottom of cap. We have found with materials, if the keeper is heavier then the retainer...they will momentarily leave the retainer. Our material choice for retainer is chrom/ and hardened 2 pc lash caps. Does the total weight of the valve and keepers causing it to leave the retainer since its heavier?

Multi groove valves and or rotators are at best standard road car stuff. And even then I have seen them fail, often. First thing you do for a performance engine is scrap all of that stuff. And you should not require lash caps for an engine with multi groove valves For very mild use the SBC standard style retainers if in good condition will serve ok but never rotators. For a SBC ofcourse Or Holden 6/v8.

As mr steve says.. Its about making it live... Does the timing apparatus on an ohc v8 make that prospect untenable...

Hi Steve, I've watched pretty much every one of your Steve Tech Videos and you explain the tech so well. Thanks for explaining what wasn't taught in my late 1970s high school automotive classes. Q: Are all intake & exhaust valves in a set the same weight? Obviously the larger intakes weigh more than the exhausts but in the two categories are they the same weight?
@stevemorrisracing2 жыл бұрын
yes a set of intake or ex valves will be the same weight.

is there an overwhelming reason why there are not 4 valve ohv heads apart from diesels?

There is plenty of 4v heads oem

First cam swap I done was a bracketmaster2 cam/lifters and springs, I should have bought quality retainers to and probably locks. but I eventually wanted to change the heads out and found a split spring retainer. I dont know how the valve never dropped.

Absolutely did not know the tip was the ONLY thing hardened on sets of 'hardened' valves. smh..... #facepalm. ya learn somethin new everyday. :)
