Your first point was exactly what I was thinking. For something as expensive and complex as a window order, the customer deserves to see a detailed schedule of all the windows they are getting as part of the contract.

I could not agree with you more. The reason I make this point is because I've seen it happen to people before and it's really disappointing when you think you're getting a certain product and you get something else.

All good points. I can relate to #1...get the details in writing. Just got a sales pitch for 3 windows. I asked for a quote for their vynal window and also for Anderson Windows. While the other window companies sat down on their laptops and put together a quote to email to me, this guy measured the Windows and then blurted out "$10,300 for vynal and and around $16,000 for Andersons". He then went into his sales pitch to "sign today and I'll ask my manager to do better because if I have to come back we'll loose another sale because we're so busy". I got a good chuckle from that proposal!

So true that first point! I received a quote from Pella of 33 pages! A couple of days later I received a 4 page quote from a different company (don't want to mention which company, because they did make up for it later on :)

Thank you for watching and your comment. This happens a lot more than you would think. People get a sample of something but no details on what they're getting. What's the windows show up months later there's no way to prove what you did or did not buy.

Great Content Jeff. I'd be interested in hearing what you would suggest doing from a windows perspective to increase the curb appeal of a split-level home.

Jeff, are you seeing an improvement in lead times for windows? We live in NC and after watching all of your videos (and checking Jeff’s list) we went with Pella in their Reserve line for a whole house full replacement of windows and trim. Contract signed and..(a substantial) deposit paid on May 9. We were told we would be looking at end of October to middle of November installation time. A week after contract signed told more like end of January. Now being told middle March. We are certainly understanding of current supply chain difficulties….but ouch 🤣. I am hoping as we go on things will improve in timing. What are you guys seeing?

I met with my Pella representative yesterday and he told me that a lot of their wood products are at 35+ weeks right now.

Of course. Where do you think I got the idea for these questions? Having sold over 100,000 windows in the last 10 years, we've met every type of homeowner you can imagine. Some just signed the paperwork and move on while others are attorneys and spend time negotiating contracts for a living. The tougher my clients are, the smarter I get about how to run my business and how to present myself in a more professional manner. We get these types of questions almost every day.

@@HoustonWindowExperts Jeff, after watching most of your very informative videos I wouldn't doubt it at all. I'm also confident that you were exposing faults that other window companies are guilty of NOT doing and for the consumer to beware. My wife and I are going to be visiting your showroom, hopefully within the next month, to get our replacement window process started. I am so looking forward to becoming even more educated.

As always, great content Jeff. I'd like to hear more on how to how much labor is reasonable for door and window installs, as a rough guideline. For example, I've heard to expect $7500 labor for $7500 door - is that really true? Should the installation of a $30K wood multi-door cost so much more than the installation of a similar sized vinyl door - or is it just the installers know they can gouge customers with larger budgets?
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts Жыл бұрын
That's crazy expensive! Usually a typical French door is somewhere around $750 to install. I'd look for an honest window company near you. Check out JeffsList.com

@@HoustonWindowExperts Probably should have said in the first sentence what I stated in the second - that was guidance for a 15' vinyl patio multi-door, not the cost of a single door. Nevertheless, the guidance I was given is that the install would be similar to the cost of the product. So, likewise, if I purchased 10 vinyl windows for $3000, I should expect the install cost to be $3000.

Jeff can you say what is the cheapest window brand name that comes with Cardinal glass Low E 366.
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts Жыл бұрын
I really don't know. I only have spent time with major manufacturers who sell cardinal. My guess would be that if you're looking for a cheap window with Cardinal Glass that would be a hard thing to find. It's actually quite an oxymoron. Since glass is over 90% of a window, it would be hard for me to imagine finding a way to make it cheap and good at the same time.
@jagslion3
@jagslion3 Жыл бұрын
@@HoustonWindowExperts No sir! I did not say I was looking for a cheap window I was asking out of all the brands you sell what is the cheapest brand name you sell that includes that glass?
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts Жыл бұрын
Gotcha. I'd say that Jeld-Wen or Simonton are in the lowest price points for a Cardinal Glass product.

Really do it when we can meet them there and be on scene with the prospective client. Obviously we asked for permission from the homeowner before we arrange such a thing. This may not work for you or someone in your market but it works well for us.
