Flashing removal is like 1 minute process. The issue with it is that if it feels bad to the hand in store the disc will remain in the shelf.

I’m very surprised by the bad rep Prodigy has. I had no idea. It’s very popular here in Finland mostly because some of the most popular players from Finland like Väinö Mäkelä and Seppo Paju are throwing Prodigy. I have bought multiple Prodigy discs in the past 4 years and never had any issues with them

Prodigy is the red headed stepchild (probably an outdated phrase but you know what I'm saying) of disc golf and I don't understand why. I've never had a bad experience throwing F5, H5, and D3. I don't know why they get so much hate beyond the issues outlined and even then, I don't see any reason why those distractions should deter me from throwing more. I love your channel because you keep it real, and flight numbers don't matter. That's why I was never bothered by the naming conventions because it was easy to follow. And people who trash Prodigy's naming convention but love Discmania are toxic hypocrites

I work at a disc golf retailer and I can say from my experience nobody buys prodigy. I mean in the past year I’ve only had about 10 people ask me to help them find a certain prodigy disc. The new spectrum air discs look pretty good and when a newer player asks me for a beginner friendly disc I’ll hand them a f7 but other than that it’s crazy. We sell a ton more thought space than prodigy and they don’t put the flight numbers on the discs, they also have less of a selection of molds. And are less known.

I bought my first prodigy disc about 3 weeks ago. I got an F7 in 400 plastic and it had zero flashing. Honestly, I was expecting the worst due to all the bad press prodigy gets. The plastic actually feels fantastic, and felt better than several innova discs I’ve held in stores lately. The innova discs had a lot of flashing, especially on the champion plastic. Overall the most impressive thing for me about prodigy, was the fact that the disc flew true to the flight numbers.

And right after that, Buhr had his issues. I held off purchasing prodigy until i saw improvement. Ive put some prodigy in hand in the last year at my shop but they still had that sharp flashing. Im stoked if they are done skimping on finishing their discs before shipping. I love their molds and their players!

@ErnoAlias
@ErnoAlias 4 ай бұрын
Yeah. Prodigy used to have a bad flashing problem, but they have fixed it, the new discs don't have it, I've ordered about 40-50 discs from them in the past year and they haven't had flashing, others say the same. In addition, on those discs which have flashing, it can be removed in a minute with a whetstone. Ps. I ordered 10 discs from them two days ago, none of them had flashing. The nicest thing was that I got the discs really cheap, 8 premium plastic and 2 basic plastic cost me only 116 euros. It is hard to see that I will ever throw with any other manufacturer's discs again, and one of the reasons is the price, but also the fact that the plastic qualities are excellent and the molds are just as good as those of all other manufacturers. So at a lower price, but still of the same quality as other manufacturers' discs, it would be foolish not to order their discs.

I throw an F1 and the H4V2 and they are super reliable. The F1 is my overstable fairway. I can't throw a Firebird, so it takes that spot. It had a very sharp rim when I first got it and was uncomfortable to throw, but got better with time. It's also my best forehand disc. H4V2 is really unique feeling and super comfortable. For me it's the disc I can throw the straightest for the longest. I recommend both.

I think there is a breaking point in their quality control during the last 2 years, I don't know how they did it but I love my new PA-3, keep finding it nearby the midranges near the drivers ;P The Duraflex F Model S, P Model S, P Model US have slight to none flashing at all, the used FX-4 I have seems more stable than this FX-3 though xD

I think they should add branded names to all of their letter/number conventions. It could start off as a sort of sub name, and then, could be used for special stamps (almost like their KJ and Cale lines). I'm making stuff up, but the "F1 Cannon." If the branded names become more popular, they could shift to "Cannon" as the primary name and add a smaller "F1" stamp beneath it as a guide to its type and stability.

I think anyone who likes spending time on the Infinite Discs site knows Prodigy has good discs despite the flashing complaints. I think the real reason people, myself included, don't throw Prodigy is because Innova amd Discraft discs are more available, both new and used, easier to trade and sell to other people, and just a hair cheaper without compromising variety of discs. Why get an FX3 when you can get a variety of new and used Innova Vikings or Valkyries? Even though Innova and Discraft have their inconsistencies, they're still consistent enough for people to feel satisfied with just their discs.

I have a few problems with prodigy discs. The naming system doesn't make sense. I had an F2 (750 plastic) i loved, but it was a hyzer flip understable discs. Only one step up is the f1 which was more of a teebird. What happens if you want to make a new over stable 7 speed? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The other thing is the flashing. That f2 and a cale leviska m4 in 400 that I got well used had no flashing. I have haven't found a single disc from them outside of those without flashing. I've sanded flashing off some of their discs I've tried, flew just fine. Just annoying. I will bag discs from them, if anyone ever finds my f2 and texts me (2 years, still holding out hope) I'll bag it again. Not sure id go out of my way to get a prodigy disc with all the amazing discs out there for each slot. But I wouldn't say no.
@scottcrawford3745
@scottcrawford3745 8 ай бұрын
The naming system is actually fairly linear and mechanical. If you bring up their full product map on Marshall Street Discs page, it does a spreadsheet for you, with the "1's" on the left, and the 7's on the right, denoting how much fade and turn they seem to have. The lower the disc is on the spreadsheet, the less speed it has i.e. Bottom row are putters and approach, top rows are the drivers and higher speeds ( up to 14). The letters are literally the purpose of the disc: D(river), F(airway) H(ybrid driver) M(id), A(pproach) Pa(Putt and approach) etc.
@Darthyeetrous
@Darthyeetrous 8 ай бұрын
@@scottcrawford3745 that part makes sense. I got that but the point is what happens when they make a 7 speed that's more stable than an f1? Totally possible to want a more stable 7 speed than an f1. It's like a stable teebird. Nothing wrong with the disc, it just makes it weird to name new discs that aren't just more undestable than the last in line.

@@Darthyeetrous You never really know until you throw them a bunch of times and hit a tree or 2...their behavior is affected by so many things from us: Arm velocity, acceleration, spin rate, angle of attack at release, forehand/backhand, maybe even left spin/ right spin, then add wind, air density, temperature of the disc ( flex) etc. Fussier discs behave differently one day to the next. You and I could throw the exact same disc and it would definitely behave differently in your hand than mine.

In May I tweaked my shoulder that resulted in physical therapy and a break from disc golfing. When I was given the green light to start throwing at 1/2-3/4 power I bought a 158g Wombat 3 and loved it. I then bought a 157g DGA Vortex, then a 158g Lat64 Pearl. Even without throwing full power my distance remained the same and in some cases (the vortex) Ive gained distance with full flight characterisrics. On occasions when I've tried to throw a full weight disc I feel the strain in my shoulder. So, another question to consider might be "could throwing light weight discs reduce the chances of shoulder injuries?" I will continue to rebuild my bag with all light weight discs.

I always hate their nomenclature, and few of the discs having the same numbers but very different flight. In my research, the distance of a Prodigy disc always seems to be a bit less than the same slot from a competitor (so I'm thinking more old-school disc design). And the flashing is always an annoyance at the bottom of a disc.

Prodigy has some fine discs, as good as many others. But while you see the “made in China” as a change for the better, it’s a deal breaker for me. $4.00 more for a made in the US or Europe or New Zealand disc is doable. The US used to have a great manufacturing base, giving people lots of good jobs. But then corporations moved manufacturing overseas so they could make more money. Many towns’ economies declined and became a shell of what they used to be, the standard of living dropped for former employees while corporate executives make more money than ever and, more recently, it cause us to be with out many supplies during the pandemic. So, even though their discs are good and getting better, that’s a no sale for me. There’s plenty of good stuff that isn’t outsourced to China, and we should support them. And, oh yeah, I have a hard time believing they’ll pay Gannon what he is worth.
