The worst buyers are ones under $10, by FAR, especially the ones that want to haggle or send offers.

I block the ones that lowball 80%. I decline and they offer a $1 more each time.

Yup. I used to think "oh, it's only $5 profit, but it has a high sell-through rate and it won't take hardly any prep work to list, so I guess it's worth the effort". But no. The haggling has gotten fierce and scummy buyers are coming out of the woodwork, to where even a nearly guaranteed "$10 profit in less than a week" item has got me borderline reconsidering picking it up.

Handled a partial refund scammer the same way recently. It was $150 new tool. They ended up keeping the supposed broken item then left me a nasty negative feedback. At the end of review they put "bad buying experience". Ebays says feedback stays since it reflects the buyers experience. What a joke. By that logic anyone could make up anything and say bad buying experience and it stays. Shame

Agree, same thing happened to our Auntie who sells stuff in her household. She packs so well nothing would even have a dent. Another Buyer in question sent a message that an accessory was missing for the item - note, the Auntie had in her listing the accessory was NOT included multiple time. When the Buyer realized this he went directly to his Credit Card company to get his money. Guess what EBAY gave the scammer a refund and TOOK the money of the listing from our Auntie! Ebay did not even give our Auntie an option to refuse the Refund request. Ebay is not supporting the Sellers at All. The Ebay Sellers in good standing need a Union or something as Ebay is not protecting them at all, most important when many who sell on Ebay have no other income source.

In the olden days, from Colonial times and even into the early 1900s in very rural areas, that sort of coiling candle was used as a timer and generally called a "courting candle." A father would set the candle to burn for a certain period of time (by how high or low he placed the end in its holder) whenever his daughter had a young man come over to visit with her. When the candle burned down to that place where he had set it, the courtship for that evening was over and the young man had to go home.

Great advice and video. I sold a pair of headphones last night for full asking price. I did my happy dance like most of us do when we get a sale for full asking price with no haggling. I then read their feedback and had a very bad feeling. They had horror stories from sellers and buyers. This morning I canceled the order and selected " problem with buyers shipping address " I'm not shipping any items that I pay for and put a lot of time into sourcing to a scammer if I can avoid it. Not today and hopefully not tomorrow. Thanks to the sellers feedback they saved me from getting scammed. I added them to my blocked list and waiting at least a week to relist the item. Always read the feedback during an offer or on buyers that pay full asking price. This is the first time that I have canceled an order due to proof of a scammer. As resellers we work hard for the sales that we get and we have to be on the lookout for any clues of a scammer before shipping an item to save ourselves.

Yep. And my crazy buyer left some hysterical feedback that was obviously a personal attack. Ebay wouldn't remove it.

On my invoice I ASK the buyer to contact me if there’s an issue before they leave negative or neutral feedback. As you mentioned, we that sell 100’s and 1000’s of items, will occasionally run across buyers trying to scam us. When contacted about an issue, I always ask to see some pictures. If things add up I’m happy to offer a partial refund. But, like you mention, if I sense a scam, I tell them we offer free returns. Sometimes buyers a clever about hinting at leaving negative feedback. I’ll always ask those to clearify by responding with, “so you’re saying if I send a refund you will leave negative feedback, but if I don’t you will?” They usually answer’ “yes!” When they do I just do nothing and when they leave negative eBay has always removed it!

I recently had a buyer claim a leg broke off of a $350 electic skillet. I asked for a picture and they claimed they couldn't. I said to send it back and they claimed they had no way to print the return label. I had UPS print the label and pick up the item. Guess what? Not broken. It cost me $25 to get the skillet back. Well worth it !

Literally just had this happen today. Buyer sent me a photo of a broken piece in a 4 pc lot of glass flowers, claiming “despite your very careful packaging, one of them broke during shipment…paid $$ per item, what should we do about this?”, but they didn’t send a photo of the packaging to show any damage or mishandling and I have had broken shipped items before, so if anything, I go overboard on packaging. I wouldn’t be surprised if they broke it themselves and want someone else to blame with a partial refund or discount for their carelessness.

I had someone try to get a partial refund on something i know i sent out clean, they said it was "terrible, dirty" and wanted "some type of refund". I asked for photos to document, it and also reminded them of the 30 day return policy. They never responded and ebay customer service said it def had a scam vibe to the wording. Always, Im glad to hear that I handled like you would have and makes me feel like im on the right path here. I was more nervous to push back against something like this when I started but you have helped me to stick up for myself and it's working! Thank you!

Before sending the goods, I send the buyer a photo of the product itself, how it is packaged and then a photo of the parcel itself

These days I rely hard on Block this member. If I get any pain in the ass questions or haggling, instant block. Avoids many scenarios like this.

I ask Buyers who claim an item arrived broken to share photos of the damaged item overall and detail. That weeds out most Scammers. The candle thing is called a wax jack or taper jack. Was used historically for melting sealing wax. You can find more info online.

I love responding to those DMs. I've had a few last year and one this year and the scenario is always the same. Even had one person fish a return, actually return the item (I deducted shipping and 50% on my end), then REPURCHASED the item after apologizing. People are something else. When you're a Top Rated Seller, you get to be pretty bold with just calling their bluff and having them return the item. To which they almost never do.

I ALWAYS ask for a picture of any damage before allowing a partial return or filing a claim. I don't do anything without proof.

So cool you put this out, I am a WOG in the eBay realm and your video are vary helpful thank you. I am dealing with this type of issue now where they keep asking for money back to help fix the video card that "I suggest you return half of it so that none of us will be offended.I will try to take it to a master maybe he can fix it.Thanks for the feedback." what i thought was funny after giving him a long list of things to do to get a vid card working this message comes in after I send him a message to submit a return. they keep dropping the fix it price I keep telling them to Just submit for a return and today being 2 weeks in no return.

I don’t resell but if I did them I would’ve asked the buyer for pictures of the item & the packaging. The packaging would’ve been damaged most likely, wouldn’t it?

This happened to me today. But I decided the $5 lost wasn't worth the effort of going through with the return. So I just refunded and blocked. Such is life.

I recently had a similarly worded situation though related to a video game (Dreamcast, Virtua Tennis). They claimed that the game worked on exhibition mode but not on the world tour mode (I did test it but only on exhibition) and they had tried cleaning the disc, it was scratched, yada yada. I went ahead and refunded them the $15 they paid apologizing for it. No reply from them. I figured it was not worth paying for return shipping, a refund and having a partially unusable game that I probably couldn't sell. In retrospect I would have at least pushed back to ask for a picture of what was happening and waited to see if they replied at all. That's just one case out of about 25 games sold this year, so we'll see if something like that happens again. If it was a $30+ game I would probably just tell them to return it.

Confused about your low shipping costs for the VCR and boots as those are pretty hefty items.....I use mostly usps ground advantage and priority envelopes through Ebays discount. What are you using to get those low prices?

I always ask for pictures...and argue will not refund til I see pictures of the item and the shipping material! Or return it. Then I will make the decision.

I feel like the people on KZfaq are more prone to scammers on eBay It sucks to say but you have more eyes on you thus a higher chance someone with bad intentions finding your store and purposely trying to bring you down

No, net income calculations do not include income taxes. Net is my gross income from a sale minus all expenses like platform fees, cost of goods, and shipping costs. It would be too difficult to include income taxes in Net income calculations because 1) income taxes are very subjective and dependent on a number of factors unique to every individual and 2) income and expenses incurred throughout the year impact total taxable income which would make it difficult to project and assign a percentage at the individual sold product level.

my advice is to stop trying to reverse engineer the algorithm and instead focus on sourcing high quality inventory with a high sell through rate.
