While seeing Andalucia’s golden three places to visit, be sure not to make the same mistakes we did in Granada. Join our Full Time Travel family while we explore Alhambra, Generalife, Nasrid Palaces, Palace of Charles V, Mirador Morente, Alcazaba and Albaicin.
All-in-all, Alhambra was a hit for our whole family and we believe it will be for you too! It’s an absolute MUST-SEE on your visit to southern Spain. We do have some regrets though. We made a few mistakes along the way which we will tell you about in the video.
We started high on the hill overlooking Granada from Mirador Morente and worked our way down through Albaicin. We then climbed the steep hill up into the Alhambra City complex. There we visited the many palaces including the Nasrid Palaces, the Generalife Palace and the Palace of Charles the 5th. We also took in the many gardens which included the Generalife Garden complex. We also explored the city, the many ruins and the Alcazaba.
Don’t forget to subscribe below to follow our journey throughout Spain and the world. We have some amazing adventures in store for you to discover.

Very useful video! Thank you!! ❤❤❤ However, the Spanish teacher in me couldn’t stop saying Al-AM-bra every time you y’all would say Al-Ham-bra, ha ha. H’s are silent in Spanish. When you see them, don’t say them 😉.

Spent three days in Granada in April 2023. This allowed us the Alhambra, Hop on and Off Bus, and walking around the city. Loved it! So beautiful. make sure you get reservations before you go to Alhambra. When we went it was closed to public unless you had specific reservations.

Sorry to hear it was a tough day, but glad you liked the Alhambra - I was amazed by it. The worst mistake I made on vacation was leaving our passports in the seat pocket on a flight from Xi'an to Beijing - we were to fly home the next day. It was incredibly stressful and we were so lucky for our bus guide's help. The hotel, despite the fact we had stayed there prior would not let us stay without our passports without a airport police '"note". Back to the airport - the guide was terrified to talk to the police and they spoke only Chinese. Passports returned to us by noon the next day on a return flight, but we missed our flight. We did get home only a few hours later than we would have and $$$ later.

I am planning to take my mom, in her 70s to Alhambra. Taking into consideration that there are not a lot of direct flights to Granada from North America, travel time is more tiring too for a senior. I heard the United is offering direct flight to Malaga next year, thinking of flying to Malaga and take a train to Granada. I not sure if she is up for visiting 3 cities. For sure we are going to Granada. If I have to pick either Lisbon or Seville which one would you recommend.

100% Sevilla! (visited both this year) It´s soo beautiful and having such spectacular historical sites (Alcazar, Palace de Duenas, Seville Cathedral etc etc). Great food even in the touristic areas! Stay in Old Town close to Alcazar for your Mum’s walks.

It depends on the season. Late spring to early fall Seville will be very hot. Well over 40 c. or 104 f., Lisbon would be a little cooler. A flight into Lisbon might be cheaper
@ignacioheredia9599
@ignacioheredia9599 Жыл бұрын
It is possible arrive at Lisbon and rent a car. Renember that Lisbon it's only just four hour far away from each other. Look for a apartment at low floor or with lift at one of these streets : Argote de Molina, calle Abades, Mateos Gago, Ximenez de Enciso, Bamberg, Estrella. Keep in mind that these alleys are so narrows i have seen a couple of times cars boxed in with no possibility of moving forward or reversing, especially at calle Estrella and calle Bamberg. If you are going to rent a car let parking at public garage at Calle Cano y Cueto, at the beginning of the Murillo garden's.

Mistake #1, don't rent a car in Europe, ever. That's why we have legs for!
@zakmartin

It's pronounced al-ambra. The "h" is silent. I wouldn't mention this if you were just referring to the Alhambra in passing, but when you keep mispronouncing it, and when it's actually the subject of your video, it becomes very irritating. PS - I live in Granada and I can see the Alhambra from my bedroom balcony.
@EveryFurtherMile
@EveryFurtherMile Жыл бұрын
Hello Zak, thanks for letting us know your thoughts on this. We'll keep that in mind in future videos. We did actively choose the British pronunciation, as we usually do, both because we are making English speaking videos and because we would likely still butcher the translation if we tried the Spanish pronunciation. We also make this choice for our Galicia and Barcelona videos. It is certainly food for thought though, have a great day :)
@zakmartin
@zakmartin Жыл бұрын
@@EveryFurtherMile There is no English translation. It's Arabic, and it's impossible to butcher three simple syllables: al-am-bra. Again, if you had mispronounced the name in passing, that might be forgivable; but when your video is *about* the Alhambra and you don't know how to pronounce it... that's just sloppy research. What would you think if I made a video about Leicester Square and I kept referring to it as Lie-sester Square, or Lie-kester Square?
@nadanabil3330
@nadanabil3330 Жыл бұрын
@@zakmartin I’m sorry but as an Arabic speaker this is incorrect. In the original Arabic it’s الحمراء or “al hamra”, with a heavy H, no B. So including the H is actually more true to the original Arabic than omitting it.
@zakmartin
@zakmartin Жыл бұрын
@@nadanabil3330 I am familiar with the original Arabic pronunciation. I have many Arab friends. But languages change and evolve over the centuries, and the way words, names and place names are pronounced changes radically - even over decades. The name Alhambra is pronounced by Spaniards, and by natives of Granada - including the Arab community - with a silent "h". Now, if this KZfaqr had intentionally used the original Arabic pronunciation (he didn't, because the "h" would have been more guttural and the "b" silent), that might work as an excuse for mispronouncing it, but it is obvious from the context that he pronounced the "h" because he had never visited the Alhambra, or discussed it with locals, or researched it beyond reading a tourist guide pamphlet, so he pronounced it as it is written. If you are going to make a video about a subject, you should at the very least make some effort to familiarize yourself with that subject.
@thatsnotmyname5852

I don’t understand what is meant by ‘English pronunciation’. You mean English-speaking people can’t say Al-ambra? Or do you mean that some English speakers can’t be bothered to learn a bit about the culture and language of the places they visit?
