Used to do a lot of backcountry skiing in the Cascade Mountains, often on overnight trips. One of the best habits I developed was to run up the nearest hill for maybe 5 minutes (to heat myself) right before getting into my (worn-out and low-loft) sleeping bag. Don't get all sweaty -- just go far enough that you are starting to think about unzipping your coat. The worst thing you can do is eat dinner, sit around chatting (and cooling off) before you get into your sleeping bag.

Learned from Colorado Outward Bound - keep your boots in your sleeping bag too! Nothing worse than putting two big blocks of ice on your feet in the morning.

Short vid so just a few short additions Use microfiber washcloths. Hang them in your tent to help absorb breath and condensation so you and the outside of your stuff isn't wet when you wake up. Pee before bed, if you wake up and need to pee just brave the cold and do it, don't hold it. The next days clothes inside your bag also helps take up what would otherwise be dead air space which your body would be wasting calories to heat anyway. And yeah they might not be warm clothes in the morning, but putting on cool clothes vs sheets of ice is a big difference.

Never knew that about breath in a sleeping bag..... Can you give tips on care and feeding of batteries, water filters (like you did here) socks, binocs, radio, and anything that needs to be prepped for the night to work well the next day OR to extend it's life on the mission or long term. Great videos. Thank you for taking the time and energy to do these. WE are out here and your videos make a difference.

Beautiful intel and tips. All spot on. I’m currently in AZ desert. It’s like Chicago freezing 🥶 at night. 70 during day. Amazing how nature works. Rolling with my military sleep system, poly pajamas and wool blanket. Cocoon up. Van camping. Love camomile tea, whiskey and cream to zzz. Sleep like a baby. Warm. D🤙😎🇺🇸

When I sleep in conditions where it's cold like this it's just my mouth and nose out of my bag. And if it's really really cold I'll drape something breathable over the opening to "preheat" the air I'm breathing and keep that super cold air out. learned this on a frosty night at 12.4k in colorado.

No issues so far. Ive had the Southwest 3200 for a couple of years now and it's been really good has some minor wear on it but nothing bad. The 4400 is doing incredibly well through all the crazy environment I have put it through.

What do you think of using regular sleeping bags in tactical situations, like a Nemo Disco 15 like as long as you use a bivy or poncho over the bag tou should be alright correct?
@PreparedAirman
@PreparedAirman 9 ай бұрын
Yes, it would work, but the main downside of ultralight or common sleeping bags is durability. They will ware out much quicker in harsher conditions. Typically, "tactical" means potentially hostile environments, which will probably require you to sleep with your boots on, which will cause damage to our bag. This is just my experience. You may have different results.

look how many emergencies have happened in the past 3 months. Tornados, hurricanes, water mains break, Sub stations shot out, floods, what? 2 or 3 volcanos acting up?... What you really mean is, you have no use for this info *this week*. better to know and not need than to need and not know.
