I don't know if it happens to everyone else, but the first thing I ever learned in Spanish was all the slang and street talk. And it sure does vary from country to country! For those learning English, we have the same deal, and get around it using different words. Like when talking about doing or learning something that isn't so easy, I never say, "But it's so hard!" That will surely get a smile. To get around it, I do say, "But it's so difficult!" Puerto Rican Spanish is quite colorful, too!

Panocha is also hardened brown sugar from sugarcane & used on desserts in the Philippines. I learned that it meant something else in Mexican slang when I moved to California. We have panocha maní (peanut brittle). Maní is another Spanish word for peanut & also a slang for vagina in Philippines. 😂

I love these. My favorite is "Cuidado a mis huevos!" Which I always think of when checking out at the grocery store with a Mexican quantity of eggs (30+). Unfortunately in the US, we have to be very careful to use double entendre only among close (and chill) friends. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for this, I have been talking with a Mexican lady for months and we get on so well but I want to understand her culture better, I will be careful using papaya and chilli 😂 Is there a special way to formally ask a lady to be your girlfriend in Mexico, I did try in the UK way but I retracted as I could tell I was not meeting her idea? She hinted there is a certain way.. I've looked for hours and not found this traditional method.

Thanks for this video!😂"What do you rub?".... Interesting! I was thinking "Que talla?" was referring to the size of a man's penis because here in the US the ongoing sexual question is, "Does size matter?"🥴 So I was thinking she was saying "What size is your...?"
@srbaruchi
@srbaruchi Жыл бұрын
Que video tan divertido y interesante! In the USA, like everywhere in the world, we make lots of polla references and albures, usually about size. (That's why I was SURE the woman in the market was asking the men, "What size [is your verga], young man?") I don't know how common it is for women to make vagina jokes, but those are not nearly as common with men as are bromas sobre pollas. Por cierto, to my gringo ears, "Que es obo?" (three distinct words) is not the same as "Que sobo?," and would not be slurred together when spoken by a gringo. But I get the "joke." In Mexico, hace mucho tiempo, I remember some of the native guys asking gringos: "You are 'Maricon?" It was meant to sound like, "You are American?" Un albur!
@PaulisimaSpringSpanish

Lo qué pasa es que sería raro pronunciar que es obo… y lo más común es que se diga “de corrido”, muy rápido jejjeje
@srbaruchi
@srbaruchi Жыл бұрын
@@PaulisimaSpringSpanish Gracias por explicar, Paulisima. I still think a non-native Spanish speaker would, if puzzled, say, "Que ... es ... OBO?", despacio (NOT "de corrido"; I had to look that up), and the joke/albur would then be lost. We have an expression in the USA about jokes that don't quite fly: "They can't all be gems."

Bien interesante.

Ya que las expresiones que Ud. enseñarnoa representan un nivel bastante elevadso, what could possibly be reason for jumping back and forth between Spanish and English. Maybe lots of your subscribers are happy with this code switching/mixing approach, but it is definitely not natural, necessary or useful. Your podcast would be far more enjoyable (at least to me) if it were all in Spanish. Just sayin'....
