All great info. Something else to check if its an older system is to pull the cable out of the fire bottle and make sure it still moves free. I was in a Baja truck testing when we had a minor roll over. There was a fuel leak and it caught the fiberglass on fire. When we pulled the fire bottle cable it wouldn't budge. Luckily we got the fire out but the cable was frozen in the sleeve. Safety has to be #1.

Great show. I'm sure this is one of those safety things that people overlook and say "yeah I have fire suppression system"... but in reality, it seldom gets checked. Thank you Tim, for the info, thank you for a great channel.

Always great info. I would add that everyone take this time and practice getting out of the car, fully suited, strapped in, put your face mask on backwards and with a helmet. I bet a lot of guys will be surprised how long it takes them to drop the steering wheel, get out the belts, find the door handle and then climb out the car.

I really like the handle in the center so you can just slide your hand down and activate it. I don't think the red handles that come with a cable should be allowed.. I also think the handles need to be something that isn't PLASTIC (I can't believe ANYONE would run a plastic handle for their fire bottles..seriously, wtf..) Anyways, let's make a slightly extreme example, you have a huge fire for whatever reason (...let's say the number of rods putting windows in the block exceeds the finger count on your left hand, lol) and there's fire has gotten or is getting into the car, it's filling up with smoke, you're sliding in your own oil, you manage to get the chutes out to try and slow and straighten the car out and hope they don't burn off before that's accomplished and as you are still attempting to steer AND brake (at least most door cars DO have a foot brake, some have both hand and foot fortunately, since I haven't met a driver w/ 3 arms yet..some have hand brakes or both..) AND DURING ALL THIS, you are trying to get a a split second to FIND and pull the damn lever for the fire bottles - so there's a good chance you are going to be late activating them regardless (but it also depends on your setup) and in this example, your setup includes a POORLY LOCATED, PLASTIC F##KING T-HANDLE to activate your bottles...🤦‍♂️ so when you do manage to find it, it's not there because it's melted or too effed up to pull.... and yeah, the example stops here -- I know not all those T handles are plastic but a lot of them are and I seen a lot of cars have them in there. I worked with a team that was finishing up their fire system install and they weren't using the T handle and I asked him if I could cut it apart yeah, they laughed and said go ahead and yeah... It was a total piece of shit. So the moral of the story is explained in Tim's video, I just had to get this mini-rant out from being in and around racing a long time! Buy mini I mean I'm not serious, it has nothing to do with the 700 words I used, LMFAO

An old racer drilled into my head that you need to know where things like your chutes and fire suppression etc blindfolded and should have a routine for going through the motions every time. It's like a preflight check with your eyes closed and takes 10 seconds to do. Know I've never had to fire the bottles, but knowing where my chutes were like that saved me from a nasty wreck when shit went wrong.

Yeah I need to put this kit in mine since I’m running methanol it’s a great fuel but you can’t see it burning all it takes is one leak methanol can be very dangerous if you don’t check things and have a fire suppression system.

Tim I was thinking today that I need to get a fire extinguisher. My car is just a simple street car with ac and radio. Makes less then 500 hp. But I make frequent trips to Mexico. Where should I mount a extinguisher in case shit goes south?

Even though the driver 'can't see shit' when he's strapped in, and carbon fiber looks awesome, making the handle a bright, 'dayglow' color might be a good idea. More for crew or safety people to be able to find it. If nothing else to easily see it and put the safety pin in after a run. (The nice carbon ones blended in a lot in the video even and it's likely even harder to see them in person.)

Can someone explain why cars are closing in the roll cage with metal now? Is it mounting for padding? Keeping limbs inside the cage, shrapnel protection incase of crash or tire explosion?

I mount my fire bottle handle right beside my bag of Cheetos so I know where it's at all the time. If that fails my back up system is the 44oz fountain drink to throw on the flames.

Screw these fire suppression pull or push cable types. I installed an electrically activated fire suppression system that not only is easier to activate but it doesn't make a mess all over the place and it is less toxic. Try the 3M Novec 1230 agent that it is discharged as a gas and doesn't require any clean up after discharged.

Not to mention after the remote cable is in place and routed into the orifice on the bottle where the remote wire goes, REMOVE THE BOTTLE PIN!! I've seen many with a remote pull with the pins still in the bottle, when you pull the cable nothings going to happen!

I wanna put a Lunati 60346001 Signature Series 4.600" Stroke Crankshaft in my lm7 and am looking for rods and pistons I want to build the engine for 1500 and run it at 1000..
