WQED Pittsburgh

WQED Pittsburgh

5 жыл бұрын

This is an unusual half-hour program celebrating Kennywood Park, an amusement park near Pittsburgh PA, its history, its rides and its charms. The program was edited and created at WQED in 2019 with video footage that was shot in 1988. This is the sixth program in the local series titled NEBBY that was funded primarily through a Kickstarter campaign in 2017. Producer/narrator Rick Sebak was the producer on the popular 1988 WQED program titled KENNYWOOD MEMORIES as well as on this 2019 documentary.

I loved Kennywood. We would visit grandparents in Turtle creek every summer and go to Kennywood. I wish there was film from the 60s. My grandmother said their school would go when she was a girl, and she was born in 1898. My parents went there with school also. Back in the 60s we would find a picnic spot and we were free to go ride. My sister and I ran from roller coaster to roller coaster.

@@deaddog5344 I will use the word in a phrase like my dad used to say when our multiple cars were in the driveway and he needed to plan for the next day and leave first. "Time for switcheroo" Or "its time to play switcheroo in the driveway" meaning we must rearrange the cars in the driveway in sequence order of who leaves first tomorrow. It was a serious LOL moment when I watched this because I have not heard the word for over 25 years. And yes my dad grew up in the 50's so what you said makes sense.

Rick's Great Old Amusement Parks documentary from 1998 was a big part of my childhood and making me a roller coaster enthusiast and eventually learn to appreciate other aspects too (me seeing rides like those featured in the documentary when I went to Knobles this summer was a big part of me learning to appreciate flat rides and dark rides to be as much of an element of parks). Cool to see bonus footage older than that documentary of one of the parks. I will be riding Lazer Loop next summer when it opens at Niagara Fun Park in Grand Island, NY next year (that's right, it's comming back north after 26 years of operation in Mexico). It's not all fun and games though, seeing the 4 removed flat rides after the 2020 season made me quite mad, Kangaroo especially.
