Not quite true, pengulls have a hunger meter which slowly goes down throughout winter. Right before summer the pengulls will be near starvation and will attack unprovoked to eat you. Conveniently, the amount of time for this to pass is roughly the same amount of time it takes an egg to go from fresh to rotten in the winter, so you can check their eggs. If the eggs are spoiled or rotten then the Pengulls won't be friendly. They leave at summer and leave their eggs which can be used to make gunpowder..

Yeah, It's something like Stale food(yellow) only giving 75% Hunger, 50% Health and no Sanity, while Spoiled food(red) gives only 30% Hunger, no health health, and -10 sanity. It's why everyone is yelling at them to make an icebox. Most items regain some of their freshness if cooked on a fire, so I suggest Stumpt do that before making a crockpot recipe(the freshness of the dish is based on the freshness of the ingredients) unless they can't cook it or cooking the ingredient would invalidate the recipe. You should also cook most meats you are planing to store that you aren't gonna jerky, cooked meats are less perishable then raw meats. Wickerbottom is extra vulnerable to spoilage, having worse punishments, so she should always eat fresh food if possible, while WX-78(Rick's character) is not affected by spoilage, so he should always eat spoiled food first(He won't eat rot though). Otherwise it is best to just figure out a way to turn spoiled food into something else because at that point it would be more efficient then eating it. You can turn meats into jerky, gold, pigmen minions(again Price gets benefits for befriending animals), hambats(Only for actual meat though) or eggs, fruits and veggies into manure and seeds(FYI, you can't turn mushrooms into seeds), pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, and carrots into bunnymen minions(again Price), mushrooms into more mushrooms, monster meat(and Durians) into theoretically anything( In practice mostly pig skins and normal meat P.S.:I don't know if Durians can create Werepigs), use many of the above mentioned things for baiting birds, rabbits, or gobblers, and lastly just let it turn into rot or rotten eggs which still have many uses. I know that was long, but it could have been longer. I cut information that is to specific for Stumpt's playthrough.

tl:dr- Stumpt should probably make an icebox. Cook food before using it in the crock pot if able. Rick should be the only one to eat rotten food, if he can't, figure out a way to turn it into something else(like eggs).

It's probably because it takes a lot of time to compile all the footage from four different people into manageable chunks of video that their hard drives can actually render. Longer episodes take longer to render.
