Neuroscientist explains how going at cold showers the wrong way would not have you reach your goals (if they were fat loss), unless you do it right, and in this context the right way to do it is to induce "shivering" which is the catalyst for fat loss.
It should be noted that, there are many benefits of cold showers and you can maximize each of them by taking cold showers in a specific way, this way is only meant for fat loss.

This just crossed my mind after decades. From the time I was born till I move to sunny Southern California early 60s. I was out in the cold in the winter walking to school, sledding, playing in the snow occasionally getting wet or snow inside my clothes and having to inside. This was the natural version of this cold shock treatment.

I like the Wim Hof method of doing. 3 rounds of 50 breaths beforehand. Causing my body to heat up and vibrate very intensely. Then I am able to stop shivering , after about 2 minutes of the cold water exposure , sometimes less . You have to expose head to toe to get used to the cold water. And doing the breathing exercises
@Numantino312
@Numantino312 4 ай бұрын
agreed about head exposure: most people in the pictures have their heads out of the water with dry hair. while keeping cold water from shower out of my ears, still directing cold water to my head at least at the beginning. i do this for both health, and emergency prepping. in late winter/early spring (north dakota), roads are at their slickest, and roadside ditches fill with cold snowmelt several feet deep. so i do this to give self a chance if car ends up sliding off road.

I took my first cold shower in years last night and was definitely experiencing some shock. My breathing became erratic and I could feel my heart wigging out. I powered through it and managed to go about ten more minutes in which I lowered the temp more and more every couple minutes. The first 30 seconds was longer than the last 8 minutes even though by the very end the water was so cold that the water at the beginning would have felt warm. Maybe I pushed it too hard too soon. @@TheIraqiforce That my other account, I didn't realise. I'm only taking about the sunnah of doing wudhu before ghusl: Narrated `Aisha: "Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) took a bath after Janaba (major impurity) he started by washing his hands and then performed ablution like that for the prayer. After that he would put his fingers in water and move the roots of his hair with them, and then pour three handfuls of water over his head and then pour water all over his body." [Narrated by Sahih al-Bukhari 248.] In the desert, it can actually get cold such as at night or during cooler months. Because deserts rarely have clouds and are very dry, heat is not really retained.

Cold shock response is when you involuntary hyperventilate and gasping after air uncontrollable. Heart raise and you will have no chance to control your breath before after ca 1 minute or max 3 minutes. This happens more likely when someone sudden fall into cold shower. If you are under water when this happen or hitting a wave while swimming you automatically inhale water and it is the most frequent cause of drowning. You shouldn’t try to swim before the heavy breathing is normalized. God luck 🚿

Same thing with ice baths. It’s all about controlling your breath and that’s how I do it. Progressive box breathing. 5 min on 3 by 3, then 4 by 4 and then 5 by 5. There are many breathing techniques that can be ituilized and after : years of cikd water, box breathing has worked the best for me

Since learning about the health benefits, I've started taking cold showers. It used to be difficult for me to breathe when I entered the water because of how chilly it was. I'm still curious as to why that was or is. When I take showers, the water isn't too cold (usually around 60-55°). I've gotten used to it to the point where I can almost comfortably take colder showers. i still won’t go ice cold because then i’ll most likely go back into that shock state where it’s hard to breathe.

Take barely warm showers until you get used to them and then switch over to cold water after you're done lathering.

Tip for those starting cold showers, turn it on, shove your face under to activate mamilian dive response, then go ahead in, the worst part is over.

When I take cold showers I just shove a rag in my mouth, breathe through my nose, and picture myself carrying the boats.

You dont want to control your breathing, you want to shiver. Thats the goal.

I swim in 46°F water for 33 minutes today. I don’t shiver when I’m in the water. It starts about 10 minutes after I get out. Why am I not shivering?

i have the mentality.. omg its too cold.. then i think I don't want to put my arm in there... then i put my arm in there and after a few seconds it feels not so bad... Applying that logic to the rest of my body. Start with feet and hands, then arms and legs, dipping shoulders in, dip your back in, dip your chest in then get under the mofo and see if it dont feel as bad as you thought. Now you are ice man and you can live your life comfortably in the polar arctic lands with the polar bears and thr penguins

I usually shower very hot (at least according to my guy friends, the women in my family shower hotter than i afaik) so i go down slowly, because the dangers of too drastic temperature changes have been drilled into my head from swimming alot. To stop shivering when I'm outside, especially in the winter where it goes below freezing regularly, i basically breathe through it and then keep doing that from time to time while walking, since my back gets tense rlly fast when i shiver and i it's cold.

what do you expect after putting ice cold water suddenly on your body? Its will suddenly contrict your blood vessels(vasocontriction) and all the blood will move to heart all of the sudden. I have seen a similar case but that ended with *a end of a young life*
