Dylan's original song is absolutely brilliant. Chris' version has really transformed it. There's no attempt to imitate the greatest American songwriter - he just takes the bones of the song and recreates it.

I'd encountered the rest of the house band in various bluegrass things prior to Chris's PHC tenure, but I'm really grateful to this show for revealing to me the awesomeness of Ted Poor! A tasteful player with really fine control of the momentum of the song - love it.

It sure is hard as heck to not REALLY enjoy Ted's groove on this piece. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough of it.

Paused at 2:45 to add to our "MOE Best Bob Dylan Covers" playlist....ok, we're back and we've reached the conclusion that just about any song sounds great done in bluegrass style, especially any song by one of the great poets of our lifetime performed by such accomplished musicians. Well done.

The thing about Dylan songs is that they make great covers. I can't think of a single Dylan song where I haven't heard at least one cover that wasn't a hundred times better than the original Dylan version. Brilliant songwriter, but I never thought he did credit to his own songs!

I would say that Subteranean Homesick Blues is rarely covered well. Not surprisingly Chris' cover of it from LFH 2018 is so magnificent that even Dylan might check the copyright to confirm he still owns it.

While music produced for radio has become more and more slick with less creativity and musicianship, the independent market is allowing many people to share their talent. True artists with training, commitment and the passion to pursue the music more than the marketplace are out there in growing numbers.
