Don’t Try “Setup” Until You’ve Watched This! (Quest Guide & Tips)

Hate completing the “Setup” quest in Tarkov? Today we’ll be looking at easing your path through what is one of the most divisive quests in Tarkov, with some players really enjoying it whilst others suffer through!
Ultimately, Setup comes down to two elements: Choosing a sensible loadout given the limitations, and using shotguns effectively on customs. If you can crack both of these parts, the quest becomes much more straightforward and you’ll get the kills for it in no time.
Even though this is a PvP quest, I generally advise players to stay away from the highly geared hotspots like gas station and dorms, because although the shotguns can work in some of those areas typically the players you’re facing are more experienced and will take advantage of any mistakes you make more aggressively than elsewhere, and with a “non meta” kit can exacerbate the issues with completing it.

I’ll prolly just use the shotguns as flechette is really easy to use, but the description says just kills wearing the gear, it doesn’t say it needs to be kills with the shotgun. Do u need to use the shotgun for kills or could I put a cheap pump mp133 on my back and use a ak as a primary?

I did this quest with the Copper Sabot HP slug and Leg Meta. They have the best range and can kill with 2 hit in a Leg. Thanks to the range you can kill even the sniper scaves, mind though you need to aim lower because the weapons are zeroed for a higher drop off. The first hit on the leg of a player blacks it out, so they can't run away if the do not use pain meds. And the bullet is so cheap with 87 RUB per round from Jaeger. I really think this round is a sleeper.

it's Jäger LL4 though and some people might not have the right level when doing this quest I did it with the good ol' Grizzly slug. Cheap and good enough and available from Jäger LL1. The CSP slug is very nice though. I love to use slugs for fun raids and challenge Chads with it. I have decent success with most of them but my absolute favorite still is the FTX Lite slug. It's very fast, very accurate and does enough s damage.

Copper slug is actually pretty bad imo. If you’re aiming legs just use magnum buck you don’t even have to be accurate. If going head or torso, .50bmg does the job for me since it always 1 tap thoraxes scavs (unless it’s the chad ghizhel scav)

I wanted to go full troll, and do this quest with the double barrel and AP20, hunting style, I did 7 kills with this setup, and then got bored and returned to mp155, but it was fun ! ^^

Fun fact, the new shotgun chambered in 7.62x54R The MP-18 can also be used for this quest since it counts as an MP series shotgun, effectively making a long range kill possible with a shotgun.

I only just finished this task the other night for this wipe… AND THEN your video gets recommended 😂 Good advice though, this was pretty much how I ended up playing it out. I tried a few different things, ammo, armour & locations, but ended up going the same path you advise.

Magnum buckshot MP155, with a suppressor to double dip silent caliber. Wore a korund for most of it. Ground it out in two days or so.

personally my 153 build is getting the cheap hexagon supressor, and then modding everything else for ergo, since ive noticed that recoil doesnt really matter, especially since i prefer magnum over fletchettes

Just running to Dorms with flachettes is the quickest way to do the quest. Flachettes are brutal to come up against in dorms no matter the skill level of the opposing player. The recoil builds do make a big difference when running magnum buck though. If you don't want to go to dorms buck is a good choice with the better damage over range and ability to two tap leg shot at significant range.

I did this whole double dipping with the silent caliber quest. Just slap a silencer on the shotguns. This made me prefer the mp155 tho since the 153 can't take the biggest mag and a silencer. It's actually a little funny because on the 155 you can see the tube clipping through the silencer

@@FirstBatalion nope after chumming you unlock both silent caliber and bullsh*t. After bullsh*t then you unlock setup. so normally i will complete bullsh*t first then knock both of it out together.

Last wipe I did mp155 ultima with a monstrum, suppressed and AP20s and it was great. This wipe I don't have the AP20s so I'll have to try it differently this wipe.

Nice vid! Maybe a look into the 153/Super comparison would be an interesting subject too. Also mag buck is hilarious if you can manage to stretch out the engagement with tonnes of bleed application chances that can really incapacitate PMC's and lock down groups over the course of a fight. Takes a lot give up the centre-mass capabilities of flechette however.

Most important tip for this mission is use FLECHETTE OR AP-20 ONLY. You can craft both of these, load the gun to the full, have a stack of 10 to 20 at the pocket for quick reloads and rest in container, so that you dont lose too much when you die. Also suppressing the shotgun gives you huge edge cause its almost totally silent, even at close range, so people dont know where you shooting at from.

Piranha is the best, did the quest in 5 raids with it, dominating the other guys using flechette. Its the best pellet in the moment IMO

if you’re forced to use and mp series shotgun, you can use the new 7.62x54r breach loader since for some ungodly reason it counts as an mp series shotgun in game. not really sure if it’s viable as a pmc killer, but 7.62x54r is a pretty beefy round.

For me, Express is my standard because of the accuracy buff - I find this equates to a tighter pattern of shot and therefore the consistency of my hits further out is worth the tradeoff 🧠🎯

I just finished this quest couple days ago lvl 39... First time I've finished this quest out of 4 wipes but to be fair its the first time I ever tried. Got a nice double kill with torso 1 taps on class 4 and 5 armor with ap-20 and it provided nice little clip. Quest was fun for sure, and out of all weapons to get stuck using on a quest shotguns are pretty great.

I always run setup with a korund and typically get it done in about 5-8 raids. I don't know what the big deal is on it given the fact that you're normally around max traders before tackling it and typically have workbench where you can craft AP-20's. But 50 bmg is a good stand in for AP-20.

Finished this quest 3 days ago as a Lv.43 lol I just went in naked with broken Mp-153 or 155's and camped third on dorms (behind the pillar), camped the unknown key scav or inside stronghold. Took me lots of raids, in some raids nobody even showed up. It was hell. Knowing the flow of the map & spawns helps greatly.

am I the only one who starts crafting AP-20's a day or two before I see myself getting into this quest, so I can one-tap to chest fairly often? I only need about 5 or 6 MOA, I go with the shortest barrel, mount the Salvo 12, then the Mp-133 8 round mag, ARG grip/buffer tube combo with the GL-Core for maximum ergo while staying supressed. I also will a bait shorty 133 with a sprut and 3 flashlights to blind an opponenet from one direction while I shoot them from another. For that matter, you can utilize a Mp-133 with 5 flashlights (sprut plus rails pump grip) to make one of those "the sun" buiilds.

Meanwhile after I finished Silent Caliber I did the rest of this quest using a DB and no armor, not even a backpack. I did very well with that and managed to outplay a 4 man on dorms, only to get doinked by a player scav right after. Good times.

For me, I'll run a 153 with a large mag and a flashlight. No need for anything complicated or expensive, just hock RIP shells at people's legs. 2 will almost always kill, and even if they don't they'll give very very nasty visual effects that make the fight all sorts of easier.

It might be worth mentioning how well this quest *can* synergise with Silent Caliber - but you have to use a suppressor!

silent caliber is pretty easy tbh If you are a shotgun noob go into the factory. If you are a connoisseur play the silenced shotgun on any map you like It can be easily done within a couple of hours if the latter is true.

The way i do it completely naked with ushanka, scav vest and mp153 with 8rnd mag with ap20 and nothing else. Die alot but usually get atleast 1 kill before i die.

nah silent caliber isn't map specific so its easy to just get done on factory, customs is annoying because its a big map and hard to get close sometimes with the shotgun and slugs are shit in this game except for ap-20 which are quite hard to get

I did this quest easy camping the trees and getting meta gear in the meanwhile, no need of flashy strategy, just patience and determination, using RIP slugs or Superformance will kill the Chad in 2 shots in the leg no matter how high the armor value is

I just slapped a silencer on my shotgun, ran all the LVL 5 armor I saved up and did this quest fairly easy. Punisher Part 6 was much more of a pain than this one, and quite frankly, I had fun and even some great rounds with it.

Magnum is mad mid range. The spread will be wide enough to reach any limb when aiming center mass. If you catch someone in the open, I’d imagine almost every player would panic if caught without painkillers and a blacked arm, leg, or both.

Up to around 50 too it's actually fairly reliable at headshotting. You only need one and if I put it right on 3/5 or so it connects. Hell, if I just aim center of mass frequently enough a pellet just goes up into the chin and boom (though admittedly I usually only do that if it's a Scav). Though by the time I did this I had already crafted up a ton of AP slugs, so those + Trihawk from Skier and you got a casual VPO AK with a shit ton more damage. I think my longest kill was 150ish (Shame can't use the Benelli, THAT monster I have killed people out at 200-220 ish).

If the quest only specifies MP series shotguns, and not MP series 12 gauge shotguns, I'd be willing to bet the break action works for it. It works for dailies that say 'get kills with shotguns'.. and technically, it is part of a MP series 'shotgun', the slug it throws just happens to be a mosin round.

I hated this quest last wipes, but now with the 155 ultima its fun. The modded 155 is way better than the 153, cause way more ergo. 153 is big and slow, not a good thing for a close range weapon.

@gigabeef you cant use the M32s becouse the microphones that capture the sound are on the sides of the headphones (black squares on the sides) so they wouldnt work, tried it myself with my M32s XD

The hardest part of doing PVP in Tarkov is how laggy the servers are. You don't see it in normal times as something is hiding it from you. Otherwise if we seen the choppiness of this game all the time, nobody would play it. But its always still there. So the PVP meta is get one of those Auto Aiming auto guns and just point and prey. As for all other gun/play styles, its much harder. That's why people hate this quest. Odds are you get one shot. You wont live long enough to get a second one off. And if you panic fire, well be surprised you lived that long. But your still screwed.

I've gotten 6 kills so far in 4 raids, with a mp-155 Ultima and AP-20. AP-20 is OP. Multi pellets aren't great. I ran over a dude with AP-20 who was using flechette for the same quest.

If you're not a regular shotgun user, just put a scope on an MP-155 and use AP-20 slugs. It feels just like using an SR-25 with a scope on it from 50 meters.

Idk man..I fought a 2 man with ap20 first fight only shots fired was at them..I got 14 hits..they didn't die I did

@@steveng7007 You must have been hitting tier 5 or 6. And I guess that flechette would be better against those. But, I hardly ever see anything higher than 4 on customs. I just prefer to 1 tap from 70 meters to the head or thorax. Flechette can't do that.
