I always do 50-60 minutes of studying then 10-15 minutes of break. If necessary I go over to finish and assignment or to find a good stopping point. I can't imagine only doing 25 minute bursts because I get into a flow around 30 minutes.

1. Being too strict about time intervals(Experiment with time intervals) 2.Spending breaks ineffectively(scrolling on social media) 3.Not taking advantage of energy state(Study longer intervals in the morning and shorter during the night) 4. No goals(Focus on 1 task at a time) 5.Not combining study strategies( Active vs passive learning)

Good point about the social media scrolling putting us back into the short term focus mindset. I’ve been using the pomodoro method for about 3 months and notice it’s getting easier to do longer sessions and skip small breaks. It’s all about practice and increasing the attention span!

Pomodoro can help if you understand where the concept originates from: Forcing yourself to break can create mental tension which can help with solving harder problems/learing harder subjects. Also studies have shown that we become less effective/efficent the longer we study/work without taking a break. Listen to your body/mind

I do 45-50 minutes studying and 10-15 rest and repeat which is also helpful. I also use hour glasses too.

This is why I like this channel. Helping me find better ways to work better. I am not in school (but need to go back to school) and have ZERO interest in being a doctor. But I find the study skills techniques helpful in managing my work effort. Some of this applies from a study perspective because I have lots of technical info that I must study to apply (Engineering). Thanks, Dr. Jubbal

I'm glad you mentioned energy state! As someone who is sharpest and studies best around midnight, I find it difficult to balance what's best for me and to meet the early morning demands expected of the world. I feel like higher education loves to tout the differences between learning styles, but don't really do much to accommodate. Feelsbadman that I'm evaluated and scored during my natural sleep times, when I'm a potato.

Yep I found myself doing 15-min sprints this week. I like the hourglass suggestion. Def been working Pomo sessions where I could have kept going after the timer rang.

I just want to add something to the concept of active and passive learning. Active learning does not have to feel terrible every time , for example one of my forms of learning and the most efficient for me is watching video lectures and basically explaining them to my self in my own words. I can’t say this is terrible challenging. I just want say, make studying an enjoyable process, otherwise you will not be able to stick with it for a long run .
