Jeff from East Tennessee. I have a big garden!! Planting space is around 70 feet by 70 feet! Most of the time I don’t get it full!! I give plants a lot of space!! I plan on a ton of peppers this year!! Most of my friends and coworkers are not fans of hot peppers!! So bells and stuffing peppers are high on my list! I will do a few hot peppers but not like Pepper x!! lol!! People just die for tomatoes down here! Peppers, okra, Green beans, and summer squash will get gone in seconds. I do work at an elementary school, so teachers will fight over fresh garden vegetables!!

I use most of the techniques in the video. An extra technique I've found useful is to use about 1' wide pavers to separate in-ground beds. These may seem like wasted space, but it provides a well-defined way to safely walk around your plantings, it does not need to be weeded, and peppers and tomatoes can grow into and above those areas as the season goes on, and their roots can go under them to some degree too. The net effect is that the walkways don't take up any more space than you needed anyway for access. I also use pavers to create walkways and useful storage and work spaces outside the fenced area, including small deck boxes to store small items for the adjacent garden, next to the fence so I can set pots and other items on them and reach them from inside the garden fence. One more method I'm trying -- my gardens are limited in where I can put things and not have them mercilessly chomped by deer. But some plants like marigolds (and possibly squash) are hated by deer so I am experimenting with putting them outside the fences in new narrow beds.

Put thin wooden canes into the soil at the sides of the container at 12 inch intervals and tie the string to them. That way you can adjust the height of the string.

Quick question, I want to use the square foot garden method with string in my metal raised beds but have no idea how to attach them since I can’t just add a a screw like I do with my wood raised beds. Any ideas?
