Regarding mineral sunscreen being better for darker skin tones / black skin. I’ve had a chat with multiple science educators whose content I love and trust, as well as Derms and chemists etc etc. there is no evidence that mineral sunscreen is better for darker skin. There’s a myth that mineral sunscreen produces more heat this worsening hyperpigmentation. Not true as far as what science currently says. It’s also not necessarily better for the environment. Whilst you may prefer it because chemical sunscreen stings your eyes, stings your sensitive skin etc, there will be chemical sunscreens that suit you. It’s just a tedious trial and error process.

Full ingredient disclosure is really important for people with allergies or sensitive skin. It sucks to get something that you were okay with a month ago. But now it's got a new formula that will break you out in hives. I'd love to see more ingredient lists front and center on websites or on packaging

Kim is totally playing on the "forever" & "investment" aspect of luxury by using concrete...prob the cheapest available. @@spinachmuncher Their skincare is really good! I think you need to know what actives and other ingredients you want in skincare to know what to buy. I’d skip signing up just for the makeup. Their makeup is boring and you can find great makeup elsewhere cheap anyway. They have some nice accessories as well like silk scrunchies. The membership is worth it especially if you get their stuff as Christmas gifts for people. Their packaging is very basic but have that weighty quality to them that higher end brands have.

I personally started using Fenty skin like at the end of last year (I only got the travel size things, just to try it out), and it worked really well for me. I noticed my discoloration going away, just a more even skin tone along my whole face. I think it was the “Fat Water” and I’m considering buying the big bottle tbh. But everyone’s skin is different and I’m not gonna say it’ll work for everyone.

My sister grew out of her adult acne and isn't into skincare. She likes Fenty beauty because the product lasts for a while and all of the products in the starter kit are fine. I've talked about better products with her but the trade offs (mini hauls on stylevanna, yes style, stratia, geek and gorgeous, etc) are more work while Fenty beauty is easily accessible and still give her a light glow. I used trash cardboard and containers (like a milk carton, juice box, etc.) to make rough molds, then mixed up and poured the cement in. They were left to set, de-molded and viola! Bathroom accessory set for a few $$. It went nicely with the “warehouse industrial” vibe of the apartment I was in.

One reason for someone preferring a mineral sunscreen would be if they react to chemical sunscreens. My skin will randomly react to any chemical sunscreen at random intervals. So it’s easier to use mineral sunscreens as my skin hasn’t reacted to those (yet). But the white cast is very annoying. A U.S. brand called Australian Gold makes a tinted face sunscreen in three tint levels. It’s not a perfect match, but it worked for me when I was there.

Thank you! I love James but it always bothers me when he's so negative about people having a preference for mineral sunscreens. If I use a chemical sunscreen on my face, even if I avoid the eye area, it always ends up irritating my eyes and making them tear up and sting like crazy! I've tried a bunch of different brands and it always happens. Plus even if chemical sunscreens aren't bad for US, they're still bad for coral reefs. Very few chemical sunscreens are reef safe and it's hard to find them in the US. There are definitely legitimate reasons people may want to use a mineral sunscreen instead of chemical

I'm allergic to chemical sunscreens. I have eczema and they make my skin feel like it's already burning, even though I don't burn without any protection. Physical/mineral sunscreens are all I can tolerate even if they typically have a white cast. I bought a bottle of Bliss Block Star to try.

Hey James ! I also have Rosacea. I would love to see you review french pharmacy products. There is a serum that has niacinamide, retionol, PHA, and hyalutonic acid from a brand called SVR. It is called SVR sebiaclear serum. They have more interesting products. They have all sorts of great formulations. And they are cheaper than la roche Posay.

Loved the zoom in at 69$. Honestly though, I could probably make a jar to put my skincare stuff in at ceramics class and get a decent grade for it too.

I'd love to see a video on reef-safe sunscreens. I prefer the feel of chemical sunscreens (and the lack of white cast) but when you're on vacation in Hawaii or protected wildlife zones where oxybenzone and avobenzone products are both banned, you really can't just use a product that feels nice when it's contributing to coral bleaching. 😥 For now I guess I'm stuck with mineral sunscreens, even if I hate putting it on my face.

My problem with the new Fenty Skin product is that their Fat Water Toner has niacinamide and vitamin C in it as well. So how different will the serum be compared to the toner? I expected more innovative ingredients for a discoloration product like tranexamic acid, arbutin, ferulic acid or even a retinol derivative. I don’t think you need the serum if you’re already using the toner

As far as sunscreen goes, use what you want, but if you're going into the ocean or other natural water habits, please use a reef safe sunscreen. Some sunscreens really do contain ingredients that are hurting the reefs
