Bright colors =easier to see. If I get in trouble while hiking I want to be seen and helped!

This never even occurred to me. What a great tip on so many levels.

I have a green sleeping bag, on long distance walks I wake up most cold, stiff, wet mornings; open my eyes see remind myself where I am and say 'I feel like a catapillar' and wiggle down for a quick moment of warmth before I get up. 100% improves my mood, every morning to feel a little bit silly

It's been studied, and it seems dark colours attract flies and bugs more. Particularly black and dark blue. The march/horse flies are drawn to dark blue the most! Striped patterns will confuse them and possibly keep them at bay.

When the colors you wear look like flowers, remember that bees like flowers.

Orange… always orange, people. Don’t get shot while hiking or camping.

I live in California while bright colors can help SAR to find you, dark colors while hiking help you to blend into the surrounding areas to better hide from violent criminals 😩 of which LA has a lot of 🙈 so I carry a bright Orange bandana tucked away in my bag while wearing neutral colored clothes.

bright colors are less uv resistant and with tarps and tents that can be bad for stuff like silnylon I still use a more bright color tent...if it rains a lot its nicer inside I use more earth tone colors when hiking for backpacks and stuff so I dont stick out too much. Insects also leave you alone more

I keep to earth tones, but my rucksacks waterproof cover is bright orange with reflective strips, for times I might actually need to be seen.

I like bright, "Here I am, come rescue me!" and "Don't shoot me, I'm not a deer!" Orange.

Here in germany wild camping is illegal so for me it's really Important to have earthtones or olive darb/ camo colored shit so I don't get spotted

I only ever wear colours to blend in, as stupid as it seems I just genuinely don't want people seeing or noticing me, I leave the city as an escape and if I get lost, well then I welcome the challenge ahead, If I die I'll be freed of society.

I have a camo backpack. One time it helped me hide from a bear. The wind was blowing my way, but it helps. Blue is my favorite.

I wouldn't wear white. Where I live, hunters look for white in the woods of a white tail deer. I like bright colors.

Wasps not only have a keen sense of smell, they can also recognize colors. They confuse particularly bright and gaudy colors with a blooming summer flower and really fly towards it. It is therefore particularly important to avoid red, yellow and blue clothing. are ya too sexy for ya shirt?

White is actually poor at absorbing light and reflects it, or if thin enough a lot of light comes through the tiny holes. Both these effects can help you see better since white reflects light better than most other normal colors (as in materials not designed specifically for reflecting light

Black on black was thought to be cool but it sucks to find anything inside.

Bright colors also scare away wildlife though. Wearing earthtones is a great way to not scare off birds, deer, and the occasional marmot. To each their own though.

You make a few good points but everyone had to hike their own hike.... but I'm not creating anymore visual pollution for other hikers - or local wildlife - than I absolutely HAVE to ;)

White is much cooler in the hot sun. Since emission and absorption are symmetric, white is also warmer at night, because it radiates less heat. That's one reason white attracts fewer mosquitoes, because mosquitoes use infrared to detect prey, so mosquitoes gravitate toward the person with dark clothing. Yes white shows more dirt, but dark is just as dirty; it's just harder to tell.

Bright colors may have an adverse affect on wildlife behavior.

Depends on your purpose. Obviously if your Bushcrafting your more on the camo side. I like the white idea it also reflects heat. It's kinda camo.

Bear don’t see camouflage well. They like bright colors. Or, bright if I need rescued ???

I use a white backpacks because I've found it doesnt absorb heat like a black pack does.

Most of us know exactly what's in our pack and it's not that much......... I can find it by feel I don't need to see it. Here's what's in my backpack from the bottom up: Inside a packliner...... Quilt in stuffsak Inflatable pad Mesh bag clothes sack Outside the packliner: Shelter Raingear Foodbag Cook kit on side of food bag. Fleece or puffy on top IF... It's cold enough to need to put on when stop. There is also often a single ziplock bag with a anker battery, carkey, money/id. That's it, that's all that's inside my pack. In the Sierra you can substitute bear can for the food bag

Im screwed… my fav color is black. It makes me so happy and I want everything in black and feel everyone looks so much better in black..

The problem is, a lot of stuff is made in super dark colors. Black, Navy, Blue and even red are more likely to attract mosquitoes when you are moving around and breathing. (Doesn't really matter for me, they pick me out of a crowd to a point of prejudice.) Why is it that so many outdoor companies use those dark colors that attract the stuff you don't want around?

I bought the black HMG bag because it’s thicker and more durable than the white. Weighs a tad more but worth it.

And the number one reason? They attract ticks! You know the big ones that like ta give you the spotted fever. 🙄

I'd say white is a good color back back cuz white deflexs light and prevent your thing like water and food from getting to hot tha say a darker color backpack that would absorb the light more.

Yeah differing bugs are a thing in regards to color as is heat & cold.

I had some bright pink gaters .... it was so distracting from the overall experience.... in peripheral view with every step. White backpacks get brown and nasty looking pretty quick.
