While the sun was rising
Brother saddled up his steed.
Rise, Sister, light the fires.
I rose early in the morning and washed my face.
I will say farewell to Father and Mother, for we may not meet again.
As I rode past the manor, urging my steed along,
I saw a young maiden in the barn beside a chest.
Why do you search the chest? Why do you prepare the fabric?
I will not wear the garments you sow, because I will be a soldier.
The king will give me a steed with a saddle,
And they will dress us all the same, as if from the same mother.
As the mountains tumble into the valleys, so will lads fall in blood.
But we will stand without fear and conquer the enemy.
