Lovely story.

In any true artist who also happens to be a musician, the music is just happening to them but it is organically filtered through their mind, personality and intellect without effort. Especially, this is true in those who also suffer from a psychotic break like a Brian Wilson or a Syd Barrett. It would do better to compare him to people like that, instead of a person who has a very low IQ who has no control over his ability. Mentally ill does not equal stupid. Along with being extremely talented, Dan had a very high IQ. Unfortunately at many shows, the audience would regard him in a condescending manner as if he were just some poor but gifted idiot, like "a monkey at the zoo". His song by that title is precisely about that and how it made him feel. I also watched an audience do this to Brian Wilson too at one of his shows. I don't think this is your intention but given his history, I think it's a disservice to compare him to someone like John Coffey.

i agree. i think he knew he wasn't the best at the guitar, so he used that imperfection to enhance the feeling of his music when appropriate. ive always felt like Daniel was more self-aware than people give him credit for, and it hurts to see some people infantilize him or treat him like he was incompetent.

@@atlassolid5946 I always saw this side of how people treated Daniel too, I think Daniel was very aware of the fact that people thought he was childish or odd but i feel like he knew there was clarity for him to be weird and be himself than be anyone else. I think he has the art of imperfection in an artist down to a tee, he loved what he did and found out how to work things out for himself despite it all.
