She was working on a musical about her life around the time of this performance. She even sang some of the songs that were supposed to be in the musical during this performance. Unfortunately it never went anywhere. A lot of that had to do with the 9/11 attacks. She was there when it happened because she was working on the musical. That’s why she said she contracted lung cancer from the attacks. There was a Donna Summer Musical that came to Broadway back in 2018 that was kind of structured like the Cher musical with 3 performers playing the icons at different stages of their lives. LaChanze played Diva Donna, Ariana DeBose played Disco Donna, and Storm Lever played Duckling Donna.

THIS WEEK IN MUSIC HISTORY January 5, 1980 - 41 Years Ago: Donna Summer went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart with her double-album opus, "On The Radio: Greatest Hits Volumes I & II." The album contained 16 tracks, including 2 new songs, "On The Radio" and the recent single, "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)," which was a smash hit No. 1 duet with Barbra Streisand. The album covered many hit songs from Donna's previous studio albums including abbreviated versions of hits including, "Try Me I Know We Can Make It," and "I Remember Yesterday" to Top Ten classics such as "Love To Love You Baby," "I Feel Love" and "Last Dance." It also included all four No. 1's, "MacArthur Park," "Hot Stuff," "Bad Girls" and the aforementioned, "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)." "Tears" had just recently wrapped a two-week run at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart as well as a four-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Disco Top 100. The smash No. 1 single was written by Paul Jabara and Bruce Roberts and was issued as a 7" single on Columbia (Streisand's label) with a running time of 4:46 and the extended remix, issued on Casablanca (Summer's label) enjoyed 4 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Disco 100 with a running time of 11:45. The latter version also appeared on Side Four of the album with the new track, the full-length version of "On The Radio." The single, "On The Radio," eventually peaked at No. 5 on the Hot 100 Chart as well as No. 8 on the Billboard Disco Chart. "Radio" had been featured on the 1979 motion picture soundtrack, "Foxes," with an even longer version of 7 minutes-plus. This collection made Donna Summer the only recording artist to score 3 consecutive No. 1 double albums on the Billboard 200 Chart. The previous two were 1978's "Live & More" and 1979's "Bad Girls." The album was certified double Platinum and spent a total of 39 weeks on the chart.(JANUARY 05, 2021)

This woman and Patti LaBelle have had their same vocal ability throughout their entire careers. It's mind-blowing that they have never even had to change the key of a song from the 70's until now.

During the 911 terrorist attack DONNA Summers chose to stay living in her NY apartment even after toxic dust had entered her apartment, is what caused her to develope cancer according to what her doctors said. If only she would have chose to leave NY city, she would have still been here with us playing those beautiful songs for us. RIP..

Donna Summer's singing voice was equally great as Whitney Houston's even though Donna never got the recognition that her voice was equal to Whitney's in its' power and beauty!

Mrs. Donna Summer & Mrs. Whitney Houston were both extraordinary beautiful singers, but each were in a separate class all of there own. I cannot compare the two other than to say they are both missed, & Mrs. Summer held her strong, beautiful voice until the end.😢🎼🎵🎶🎤🎹🎷

people even here keep lumping donna with disco and while she had hits with the genre, her vocal talent far surpassed any one genre of music. as much as i loved whitney's voice, she oversang too much. that is something donna didn't do.
@michaelbarlow66103 жыл бұрын
@@daveheel . I agree completely that Whitney Houston, as great as her singing voice was, did oversing some songs. A perfect example is when she screeches the ending of the theme song from the movie, "The Bodyguard"! When she screeches on that song it is, as the old expression goes, "like nails on a chalkboard"! And your right that Donna Summer did not oversing the songs she recorded--at least I have not heard any Donna Summer songs on which she oversang. Whitney Houston when she would sometimes oversing a song, reminds me of Barbra Streisand in that regard, because Streisand had that same tendency in some of her songs such as the song, "Somewhere" from her Broadway album.
