I completely agree with what you wrote at the end of the video. Some people would have to live in the countries in which we live and then they might understand why we do things instead of buying them. I wish I could do something like that for just a day! But, I'm disabled and cannot stand for more than 15-20 minutes and that is pushing myself. You can look up the medical terms, but I know them by heart since I was an RN for over 2 decades. In my spine I have osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease and spinal stenosis. To cut down on the amount of narcotic pain relievers, I have a spinal cord stimulator implanted. I'm just telling you this so you can understand why I would love to see you work in person, with the wonderful smells of cut woods. That's why I love to watch these videos you guys make, to get my mind off of me and my pain. I try to work a little in my shop, but I sit more than I work. Great video from Estonia. Yep, excellent video. Super saw and good wood produced. I agree with your comments at the end. I've just "wasted time" building a super log splitter out of an old hay baler, and a powerful wood chunker/chomper out of a 7.5 tonne lorry axle. Now my firewood is done in a quarter of the time. Your video was one that inspired me to build my own smaller band sawmill. It took mw a few tries but eventually I did it. I am no mechanic by any means. I am retired so have time do do this. I have already cut quite a few logs. It works quite well and I impressed myself for building it. it was just a project I wanted to do to prove to myself that it can be done. YES!

I completely agree with everything in the video’s end as well. People who say it can’t be done give me motivation to make it work.

Hell, I love in a small city where a lumber yard is much easier to get to but I’d much rather do this kind of thing myself. Everything you said at the end of the video is absolutely correct. People have become complacent about where raw materials come from and the reward of doing it yourself.

The wages for my job in Ohio where I live was about $2276/ month. I see Estonia is under the Soviet system where wages are totaled per month whereas here it's totaled per hour and per week. With what you did and where you live it's amazing since I have lived in Mexico and know poverty. I'm working on my mill, shown on T wagner on KZfaq.

My grandfather and his brother bought 35 acres back in 1940s to harvest the lumber for new barn. Plus a small sawmill. The barn is still with me and isn't going anyplace soon as it's still solid. My dad had a pole barn built in 1972 and it almost fell down due to rotting lumber. I saved it by installing new posts on one side. It's not a small barn. 90' x 36' x 16'' clear height. Oh was the lumber for those new posts expensive. I live near the center of USA. We have lots of good oak, walnut and hickory around here.

I have built two bandsaw sawmills and had a foley belsaw circular mill. Sold the first band I’ll and the belsaw when I moved from NY state to Texas. Still had the sawing bug so built another bandmill. I’m like you I enjoy building with metal and wood and get a lot of satisfaction doing it myself. Keep up the good work. Malcolm

That's true. It's a lot of work but better in the end. Plus, those slab end cuts make perfect fire starters. We use to go to some friend's saw mill and get some. Pine, Oak and Hickory. Lastly but not leastly, I noticed, as in all your videos, you put a lot of thought, time and energy into your work and for you, I'm sure it's rewarding and I'm sure you will continue to do so. I'm in USA and I have built many projects with steel I got free for the hauling: Motorcycle frame jig and components, Buffers, grinders, Metal workbenches, Etc. Steel and lumber should never go to the landfill!

I am like you are and totally believe in making something out of nothing with wood or metal. I grew up on a farm and have worked for years repairing and making things. It is creative for the mind and soul ! Keep up the good work and who cares what others say anyways. Do what pleases you as that is all that matters. I live in western Canada and sure wish I had trees to cut down and mill because I would have enjoyed it my whole life.Too late for me now as my health is not as good as it used to be and I am getting too old now. Donny, you rock man. Sometime naysayers are right, and sometimes they aren't. As many here probably see it, you are killing 3 or 4 birds with one stone. 1. People say you idea is crazy, and you prove them wrong. 2. You like building stuff, and you did. 3. You are potentially able to be your own boss, setting your own hours, and making equal or more than average while being outside and not micromanaged. 4. Once you're known more, you can go around and mill people lumber on their own properties and not only get paid, but probably pick up some off-cuts that are valuable for your own shop or sell. 5. You can look anyone in the eye and prove to them that you're a self-made man.

I’ve recently stumbled across your videos and am actually building a sawmill myself. It’s a long and tedious process and I hope it actually works. Only steps left to do are mounting the back side dogs (not even sure if this is correct vocabulary) and the safety cover for the blade itself. Almost there 👍🏼

Not only do you make your equipment and tools, you also spend the time documenting and sharing. That is totally un-necessary, but such a gift. Even if you do get some payoff on your channel, it still is amazing.

Great lumber great mill and great video! I built my bandsaw mill about 4 years ago and I love having my own mill and I really enjoy milling my own lumber. I have also heard a few negative comments about building it from KZfaq trolls over the years, the funny thing is if you look at the trolls KZfaq page all of the troll people never have any videos that they have made, so I usually call them out and tell them, instead of being a jerk and being negative, they should put some time into learning how to build things and try to add some videos worthwhile to the KZfaq community rather then being a troll, they seem to never comment back. It seems to be the best way to shut them down. Any how keep up the good work! Ps I have a two part videos of how I built a power feed for my mill, I really recommend building one, it completely transformed my mill. Take care and hello from Washington state!

Next summer I plan on building my own sawmill, and after watching a lot of videos and looking at pictures I feel I can pull this off. Mine will be able to cut 30inches if all goes well and I will save between $3-4k I figure. Thanks for sharing your creativity! I love your cant stops!!

This mill works really well,better than many so called professional ones I have seen, no sign of the blade diving,and I imagine it will only be improved even more over time,perhaps with a powered carriage,and better log handling techniques,also consider using washing powder in the water feed when milling sticky sapwood.well done my friend!👌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Excellent! Glad to see at the end that you added a sawdust collector as that is a saleable commodity too. Here in the UK, for example, pet stores sell bags of sawdust. But you would have to fine-filter it first (and perhaps dry it out too) to avoid pets being injured by splinters or sharp bark

You built what appears to be a really smooth and well cutting sawmill, however, you really put a lot of trust in wire as a log puller, trust which I would only put in a chain. It is nice to see someone actually get ahead in life and doing it by his own means. I wish only the best for you.

What an amazing piece of gear you made! And it is always worth remembering that every 1$ spared is worth 2$ not had to be earned, at least. First you dont pay taxes on it when you earn it, you dont pay taxes on it when spending, and you dont have to pay for someone else's profit, taxes, and overhead.

Extend them ramp legs & it makes a huge difference. Mine went missing so the ones I had made we added a few feet, & never regretted it.
