Could you share something about how much money you saved compare to buying a similar size plasma machine? The cutter itself i guess cost more then the rest of the machine, but lets say if you were to buy a machine that comes with the same plasma specs

I prefer "do hickey" too if I'm mad and can't work on my "whatchamacallit" project. I'm mad b/c I lent the last "thingamajig" I had left to my neighbor "whatshisface" who said he lost it while fixing his thingumabob project. Even worse, he already had 2 "doodads" that would've worked just fine! 😂

Oh, you are so close to one million subs.. Thanks for all the cool videos, Donn. Your high level of understanding of mechanics, physics and (all the) dynamics makes you steps above the "book smart" engineers. I have worked with many (over rated engineers) in my life. They have nothing on you or I. Isn't it cool to be able to think "outside the box"? The beefing up of the plasma CAM will make everything run tight and smooth.

Great Work Donn! I also bought one of those Makita copy's, over a year ago, and it is still working good. Mine is totally unbranded from Bangood.. So I ordered the Impact driver a couple of days ago, still waiting for it, but we will see how that one performs? It looks like they are made from the Makita mould's? Be sure to give an update, once you have used it a lot.

I'm wearing headphone and the servo motors sounded a bit louder after the drive belt upgrade. That makes me want to ask questions. Did you use a different camera or mics between takes? Are the motors having to draw more current to compensate for added stiffness? Does the belt flexibility change between hot and cold temperatures or is it stable over a broad thermal range? :) I know you are pretty thorough when you research stuff, nevertheless there is no harm in asking.

Hi thank You for Shearing ? Did you ever try to cut with nitrogen (co2) instead off atmospheric air ? i get a a lot off slagging on the backside that has to be removed with a needle hammer and the surface has to be cleaned with a grinder before welding
@DonnDIY
@DonnDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Svend! Nice to hear from you. I'm a big fan of your chain sawmill. 👍 I haven't used CO2 and can't say whether it's benefitial or not compared to regular compressed air. If there's too much slag on the backside you might want to play around with the cut settings - adjust feed rate and amperage. I usually get too much slag with higher amps and lower feed rate. The sweet spot is somewhere in the middle. I have dialed in settings for 3, 6, 8, 10 & 12 mm material on my machine but I still play around constantly to get even better cutting results. And to get slag off of material I just use old sharpened file, this knocks the slag right off, no need for grinding. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

What is the advantage of making the torch mount spring loaded as opposed to the torch being rigidly mounted to the Z axis “platform?”
@davez4172
@davez4172 2 жыл бұрын
The "floating" torch allows for sensing the material height without binding the z axis when slewing down. There is a microswitch that is contacted when the torch floats up and the machine is calibrated to "know" how far up the torch must float to make the switch.

Hei Donn. Oskad nõu anda? Mul plasma 100A, 1.5x3m laud. Plasma peaks lõikama 12mm terast, ja seda ta ka teeb. Plasma juga uute düüsidega, elektroodidega jm. tuleb otsast nagu instant kalde all. Mis probleem olla võib? Õhk on kuiv, ampreid piisavalt, otsikud uued. Pink on aasta vanune.
@DonnDIY
@DonnDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Ahoi!

Not sure, if the steel reenforced belts are a good idea. If they have to go around tight corners, the steel tends to break after a while. The belt then stretches, and you will have a lot of chatter. Apparently, Gates belts are pretty good, but pricy.
@LesNewell
@LesNewell 3 жыл бұрын
They work well as long as you don't exceed their minimum bend radius. I suspect this setup has a smaller bend radius than is ideal for the belts. I looked into this type of belt when I built mine. In the end I went for rack and pinion. Much stiffer but a pain to install and set up.
