Jeff & Sarah of History Hunters visit the Emigrant Trail used by the Donner Party in their westward trek to California in 1846. A place in Nevada is where James Reed killed a teamster. The group also camped near Truckee Meadows and Rattlesnake Mountain in Reno. #donnerparty #nevadahistory

Not only do you try to find truth in the mistakes and lies people do to make themselves look good in historical facts but, to make others not hear the real truth is a travesty to me. Hi History Hunters. Thank you for shedding light on where the fight between Reed and Snyder took place. I have often wondered where it happened and wanted to visit the location some day. My pleasure. The exact coordinates of the fight location and what is believed to be his rock covered gravesite is 40°59'31.6"N 117°19'19.5"W and I think if you google map it you can see the dirt roads leading to the site. Glad you watched and enjoyed the video!

Archeologists generally leave some parts of sites not excavated so future archeologists with better technologies have a chance to improve on their work. They learned that lesson the hard way a few times because of some overzealous archeologists around the turn of the 19th century basically bulldozing really important sites lol.

The only thing I can figure is that there are a bunch of jealous people out there who love to stick their finger in your eye at anything you do. They really must be a miserable sort of person. I just eliminated a comment from somebody on another video where she declared my video boring because I didn’t have a metal detector. I am not a metal detector show I talk about and show about historical places. My feeling is if they don’t like my show then don’t subscribe and don’t watch it and don’t put a thumbs down on it. My wife and I enjoy your videos. I do have 1 small issue with your narration. The covered wagons were not conestogas but a much smaller lighter wagon. The conestogas were so heavy they would kill the oxen on such a arduous trail. We are members of Immigrant Trails West, the people that put up the railroad rail markers along the various trails and publish the trail guides.

Great video! I'm actually related by my aunt's marriage to descendants of the Graves family. I've been fascinated with the Donner Party most of my life. Patty Reed's doll is actually on display at Sutters Fort in Sacramento. Went to the memorial multiple times having grown up not far from there. We relocated to the Midwest six years ago and got to drive HWY 80 all the way into Iowa. Passing through Utah and eventually Ft Bridger in Wyoming by car made me shiver at the thought people once made this trip by wagon. Fun channel! I love history very much myself. My wife, children and myself made a trip to the James Farm in Kearney, Missouri last year and it was AMAZING. Jesse's grave is there and Liberty, Missouri which was the site of his first bank robbery is nearby. We also went to St. Joseph, Missouri which not only the place Jesse James was shot, but the headquarters of the Pony Express, Civil War battles and the home of many other historical figures. I highly recommend if you haven't already been.

In California it was Manditory to do California History in the 4th Grade. Even tho wr Homeschooled we still did this. We did a packet in Literature were I saw my middle son fall in love with Reading. There is an Excellent Book called Patty Reids Doll. & since I was a hands on school mom we went to Sacramento to the SuttersMuseum where the real Patty Reids Doll is on Display. I was shocked cus it's less than 3 inches tall ❤ we went to Sutter's Mill where the California Gold Rush Began. We panned for Gold . We went up the Grade where the Donner Party Camped during their Ordeal. Also wrnt to Donner Lake. It was a Precious Memory that is Tucked away in Heart ❤ I Loved those Days with my Family.

interesting point you make about travel then and now and the beautiful subdivision that was then just a meadow and spring. Your back to the future comment made me thing about how truly pissed they would be if they knew we can now travel in 12 hours what took them two months to try and make which of course we know they came up short and were trapped in the mountain snow.

The passage of time is hard to fathom. I am 66 and the Donner Party seems closer and more tangible to me now than it did 50 years ago when I first read "Ordeal by Hunger". As a sixteen year old in 1970, the story of the Donner Party seemed impossibly distant in time. . now, a half century later, not so much, why is that?
