Basically, in Fushan, he was looked down upon as a non-local who did not speak cantonese (the first guy he challenged called him a northern peasant). Basically, he was trying to beat everyone so that he could open up his own dojo. This somewhat mirrored IP's experience when he first came to Hong Kong. He just went about it much less diplomatically.

Bad translation. What he meant was they didn’t accept him. TBH he wasn’t a dick about it when he first came to challenge those masters, he was respectful and courteous first when asking to spar. He only came off as arrogant as a result of disappointment after finding out those masters aren’t up to their name.

It broke my heart when Ip Man gave that guy his kite back. His older brother kept the kite with him after their argument at the restaurant, and was not able to return it because of the war.

In real history, IP man run away from Chinese Communist Party. He hates CCP. But because China is ruling by CCP now, he was made to hate Japanese army instead, in the movie.

Just imagine if it was the real IP Man in the movie. The story began in the year 1935, which makes IP Man 42 years old at the time. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, from 1937-1945, IP Man was 44-52 years old during that time period. In 1949, IP Man escaped from the Japanese-occupied Foshan and then opened a school in 1950 in IP Man 2. That makes Donnie Yen’s IP Man character 56-57 years old during that time period. In IP Man 3, in the year 1959, IP Man settled down in Hong Kong. That makes him 66 years old during that time period as his wife passed away in 1960, making him 67 years old. Before 1960 came, there was Cheung Tin-chi’s spinoff story, also set in 1959. Then finally IP Man 4, set in 1964. IP Man got diagnosed with cancer. That makes him 71 years old during the movie. We know he passed away at the age of 79 in 1972. Just imagine that. Living with cancer for 8 years and cancer was not easy to get rid of back then. Lastly, we had Bruce Lee show up. So imagine that it was the real Bruce Lee. Since Bruce was born in 1940, that makes him “-5” years then 3-5 years old during the 1st IP Man movie. In the 2nd movie, then that makes Bruce Lee 9 years old. In the 3rd movie when Bruce Lee first faced IP Man, he was 19 years old. In the 4th movie when Bruce reunited with IP Man, that makes him 24 years old. Then came the epilogue, Bruce was 32 years old. The real Bruce Lee passed away at that age in 1973 before his birthday. Quite an interesting history we got here.

@@jasonlee148 I believe it was on purpose. After all, Donnie Yen’s IP Man movies are “loosely based” on the real IP Man’s movie. Similar to Jason Scott Lee’s movie about Bruce Lee and Danny’s Chan’s Legend of Bruce Lee TV series. All “loosely based”.

Having Netflix and with all the IP Man films there, and then being suggested this video! Though I sort of spoiled myself I watched the first one! I have to say it was the first movie I’ve watched alone, and I really did love this movie! I’ll watch the next tomorrow! Talk about a film which had emotion and action! It was so inspiring, intense, emotional and brilliant! I think God led me toward another great series! Edit: Compulsively I watched 2 and 3 today (well tomorrow to the comment above)…These are indeed magnificent movies! Dang it! I shouldn’t have done this! All that’s left is part 4! I’ll feel so sad when I’ve finished them all! 🤣 Edit: Watched the 4th today! I have to get these movies on Blu-ray! Absolutely Epic!

Ip Man is really a classic. I haven’t watched the 4th yet. This is the martial arts film that doesn’t have that much fake flying scenes lol and mostly just realistic fighting.

Um you didn’t watch the movie then. He was taking over dojos and being loud. He didn’t just roll in and open up a dojo. Instead challenged the masters in a crast way.

@@1014p well the way i see it is unless he defeated all the other martial arts schools he wouldn't get any credibility like if you're in mma how can you be the champ unless you win the belt. so he actually did succeed he did defeat all the schools on that street. ip man was wild card because he didn't have a school. so if that waiter didn't mention ip man. the northerner would've just gone on with his life with his school.
