I run the AC when it's cold outside. The compressor puts load on the engine, increasing engine warmup speed. The AC system also dries the air, so the windshield won't get foggy.

If your A/C is low it is because there is a leak. Refrigerant doesn't just disappear thats why it takes 7 years for it to dissipation in the atmosphere. Also that bottle you bought at pep boys doesn't contain any refrigerant at all. You need a licence to purchase refrigerant. That bottle will make your ac blow cold temporarily, but it can also damage your A/C system since the oil in the system is carried by the refrigerant, and when there is none the compressor will get very unhappy. Many shops will use a gas analyzer to identify the bull shit from that can in the system and then tell you to go to another shop because connecting their A/C machine will contaminate it.
@davidb7180
@davidb7180 5 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree on your point about needing a license. You can go into Walmart and buy a can of R134a (automobile and appliance refrigerant) all day long. No license required. You do, however, need an EPA card to purchase refrigerants such as R22, R410, R404 ...etc.
@imatygaa
@imatygaa 5 жыл бұрын
@@davidb7180 As far as I know as of 2018 you need a licence to get anymore than 2 lbs of r134a in the US. Most other countries care a little more about the environment and have very strict guidelines on all sales of refrigerants, and repair of A/C systems.

From what I learned in auto school, A/C does not run out, it does not "go low eventually" and it should not ever need to be serviced unless something breaks, also no foreign materials should ever make it's way inside the system. If it's not blowing cold air, take it in for repairs, something is wrong. Mind you, I had a 1993 Ford Escort with A/C (surprisingly) and it blew awesome cold air using the old R34 refrigerant all the way up until I had to put a new engine in the car in 2010. I'm quite sure the A/C has never been serviced in that car before that, everything looked original. So no, don't bother buying a recharge kit, waste of money, you have a leak that needs to be addressed.
@dangerrangerlstc
@dangerrangerlstc 5 жыл бұрын
The molecules in R134 are small enough to leak through the rubber hoses, so yes it can go low. Plus, the compressor shaft seal can wear and leak freon. Those "self service" AC pro kits suck because they usually contain a stop leak fluid in them, which is a pain to get out of condensers when your mechanic actually goes to fix it.

@@dangerrangerlstc I really find it hard to believe the modern car is engineered with rubber that's incapable of containing molecules in R134 or whatever fluid/gas they're designed to contain for that matter. Mind you, rubber can be formed and treated to withstand a variety of different substances under a variety of different pressures. And yeah, a leaky seal would be a reason to have it serviced, a reason it's a leaking, a reason that a recharge kit ain't gonna fix. In fact if the kit has this stop leak you're talking about, that's only gonna make matters worse later like you said.

@Elon Blunt A perfect system never needs to be recharged, household and commercial systems will run the same refrigerants for 30+ years easily. That being said, cars use hoses with fittings that tend to leak eventually due to movement/flexing. As long as the pressure within the lines are higher than atmospheric (14.7 PSI) little to no contaminants should enter the system, so this is where you can "top up the freon". If the entire system loses its charge then it has to be properly fixed, or you're just going to likely end up hurting the compressor making your repair bill even more because air [that is saturated with water], cannot be compressed! Basically automakers suggest getting this looked at during scheduled services because there is a fair chance that a fitting somewhere has/is leaking. Source: I'm an HVAC/R tech.

5:58 Those packets in beef jerky are a mix of table salt and iron filings. They're only a dessicant in the sense that the tiny amount of salt absorbs some if the moisture in the jerky to start rusting the iron. The rust absorbs any oxygen in the bag of jerky, keeping bacteria from breathing.

Dang. I had to get certified by ASE and MACS to service auto a/c. Btw, "A/c Pro" has a chemical sealant in it which ruins most o- rings in the system as well as the $5k industrial machines that are used for service. Don't use it ⚠️⚠️

I totally cringed too. No professional mechanic will use that crap. Horrible advice to add Freon if your AC is warm and see what happens. Fun video for the layman, but a few inaccuracies.
